lol $3000 is more than enough oh shocked I came with over $2000 which was reduced to $500 after paying my rent upfront and health insurance. if you still have $3000 after making all those expenses then you are good to go.
fredoricko:

Thanks Riddy for a well delineated response to the issues I raised. It goes a long way to allay my worries and fears.
Excluding tuition, $3000 should be enough to take care of expenses in the first semester before one starts getting stipends or earnings, right?

Settling in is key. It can mean different things for people. Having financial discipline is important because as long as you keep your hours (if you are funded/working), payment is sure, so its left to you to start saving. and its good convenience that payments are made twice a month, so that for me is a real plus having been used to once a month salary payment. you understand?
Thanks. I totally understand you. For one who is yet to get an admission let alone funding, my questions may seem preemptive, but I like to know the nitty gritty of my endeavors before I plunge in headlong. Thanks for taking out time to explain.
Bless up

Thanks Makurexx, please permit my intrusion; Are you financially self reliant?
With little or no support from home, are you able to go by? please feel free to ignore my questions if they violate some form of unspoken code of privacy.

Thanks and bless up

Hi Sir/Ma,I dropped out of medical school in my third year due to financial constraint. But am planning on continuing it in the US. So,please how will it be? how do I go about it ?considering that am not financially equipped completely. Also, can I get any sponsor from individuals or organization? as reading medicine has been my dream but my financial challenge is really handicapping me. I have my transcript. Thanks, for everything.

You must land exactly on the date on your i20 to avoid story. You can get an extension letter for 2 weeks stating that you have personal reasons for not arriving early

My Short travel experience

I took off from Lag with Qatar on 11th, 2:30pm Nigeria time.
We stopped at Doha and 2 hours after we kicked off to new york. 13 hours journey no be moi moi. They kept giving us food and drinks... Meanwhile pls and pls, when those oyibo FA ask what you want, make sure you hear well oooooo. because I heard rice in what they mentioned I quickly jumped to rice cos I believe nobody can go wrong in making rice not knowing its a vegetarian food.
They usually have two foods:one veg and one non veg. And they give you want. I drank enough Juice and cola to compensate their nonsense food. There are thousands of movies to watch.
I heard Ethiad dey serve peppersoup(someone should confirm tho)

Whoever brought the fear of POE should be flogged and jailed. DO NOT PANIC!!!

They don't even have time to drill you cos they know you had a long journey. they are just doing their job. I didn't spend more than five mins with the official. Showed them my passport, 1-20, scanned my finger prints and prolly took my pix and off I went.

And America is organized. In fact those people no like stress. Everything was spelt out in the airport. You can't get lost and even if you do, ask question. It was in Naija airport that the search was real but other airports had scanner or so. They didnt use their hands to search our carry ons.

Finally going to America was a mixed feeling. I wasn't excited and I wasn't sad either but I just knew it was a "start of something good".
Hi dear, please I really need your help, any how you can connect me to anyone or organization. I dropped out of medical school due to financial challenge in my third year. Please I want to continue it in the US but I need assistance. I know you have the advantage of linking me up since you are already in the state.I have my transcript. Thanks, for everything. All the best.

why will anyone drop out of medicine in third year If you can't get a sponsor why studying medicine in Nigeria is it in u.s.a you want to get one how can you even convince someone to help you when you are currently out of school I think it would have been easier to play on people sentiment and reason to sponsor while you where still studying medicine in school. Anyway good luck on getting a sponsor to u.s.

Schooling in the US with today exchange rate works out way more expensive than schooling in Nigeria so if ypu dropped out due to financial constraints will it not be worst off in America.....

To study work and self sponsor yourself....is almost IMPOSSIBLE with medicine

If leave 8th to enter 9th that is still ok as well..... however if you are entering later than your i20 start date. Inform the school and try to get a new i20 with a revised date

I don't know but one thing I'm sure of studying medicine is not that straightforward as you think, sometimes you have to even finish up with one medical science related program before you finally go fully into medicine. from your write up you are thinking of an easy way out of Nigeria.
if you are really financially constraint as you claim, how do you intend to finance your exams (GRE and TOEFL) , school application(s), all the way down to flight then when you get there you need to also have enough to settle down... young man look before you leap.

Thank you i'll book for 7th but arrive on the 9th (the flight is making two stops). The cheapest ticket I've seen so far is 700 thousand naira. I'm going to corpus Christi in texas , but i'm finding it difficult to get a flight going to corpus Christi airport, the few I've seen are abnormally expensive , I am seeing 3 million naira upwards. Is it ok If I choose houston airport as my point of entry to the us , will I have any problem at poe.

Houston will not be a problem at all for POE .... u can also do New york or Atlanta and then take a domestic flights to Corpus Christi or the nearest town ...u do the maths and take which deal works better
