famagro:If you were smart by half you would understand that it will be a clash if an Eze ndigbo of Lagos goes to Owerri to parade himself as Eze Ndigbo because that place already has an Eze Ndigbo. Are you people this dumb in real life? |

This is what stupidity leads to, how can one deji be telling other Nigerians how to organize their meetings when e no be cult. This is one stupid divisive and thugish ultimatum I have heard of. I understand the blah blah blah about region and tribe. I am not in support of the dispute between the eze group, but they have broken no law when gathered. I understand the Yoruba's tribe fears in Ondo state, but just to clear this out - i would have condemned this act if it happened in any other region. With that being said, the deji does not have any right to demand/command a group of people to do what he wishes without their desire. He is not the law of Ondo state or that local government where they have the dispute. I have said this before, lawyers are supposed to be the reapers of this administration. Am speaking of good lawyers and not noise makers, factual type lawyers. The group should sue the oba for this incidence(i don't know what case it falls on), but he can be sued. It is not a matter of money or not, if the court do their job. It is high time our legal system buckle up, because it is not the government alone that has the last word when it goes against the constitution, talkless of one deji or eze or sultan or anybody. If we mean nobody is above the law, then let's mean it. The deji could have sued the group if he had a point outside of tribalism. Anyway, Nigeria is backward and stupid, we lack developmental wisdom. We are a slow bunch mentally. That is the revolution we need. Equality. |

Speaking from a neutral point of view, I see no wrong in what the Deji dude have done concerning the title change. If you are so ignorant as to call yourself king in someone's land when you are a mere representative, then putting you back in your place is in order. Imagine Nigerian ambassador in US being referred to as President and Commander-chief of Nigeria. It smacks of absolute ignorance, nasisscism, head-honchoism, and nomansland mentality. The rule of thumb is to respect the culture and norms of your host. That is what some igbo bad elements fail to do in the north. They go about insulting their hosts' way of life and religion in an 'in your face fashion' and when you have Hausa bad elements then you have a recipe for disaster. |

There are RULES for Chieftancy titles. in each State of Nigeria. Fact. This is to ensure legality for traditional and ancestral institutions in the country. Without this ANYBODY or group can take whatever titles they want in any community and the traditional institutions will lose relevance. That is why there are procedures to the Obi, Oba, Emir, or traditional ruler of any community in each state. State Governments have the final AUTHORITY to confer such titles at formal coronation ceremonies. Sometimes the selection process drags into the courstas various ANCESTRAL families battle for the title. Traditional title holders in turn can confer Traditional as specified by the traditions . They may also confer Honourary titles as they deem fit. Honourary tiles are NOT given by right but as a PRIVILEGE. Therefore NO tribal group whether Ijaw, Annag, Itshekiri, Edo, or any over 250 DIFFERRENT TRIBES can ON ITS OWN confer any traditional Title on any member of their group. NONE. It would be Illegal and such person or persons should be arrested and jailed by the same laws that prevent a Kachikwu Okonkwo from declaring himself the Asagba of Asaba or the Obi of Onitsha. . How would you FEEL if Alhaji Sanusi Buhari is declared BY HIS TRIBES MEN as the SARKIN FULANi of Onitsha ? or Ibadan ? or Jos ? or Yenagoa ? How would you FEEL if Adamu Igbira is declared BY HIS TRIBES MEN as the OHI NOYI of Port Harcourt ? or Uyo ? or Kano ? or Ilorin ? Tribal Organizatiosn and associations such as the Tribes Development Unions, Miyetti Allah Fulani, etc must be registered with the CAC as Non-profit organizations with stated constitution that will stipulate the leadership hierachy of the organization. the CAC will NOT and has never licenced any NGO or tribal organization to take Chieftancy titles. NEVER It is sad and shameful that State Governments and politicians are allowing this NONSENSE to fester. It is ALWAYS about a particular section of the country for whom the civil war never ended and which remains resolute to TAKE OVER other people's land, culture and traditions. They are always playing the VICTIM when in fact they are the aggressor. |

vanbonattel:Y'all are just talking like Kids. In future this can cause a serious Problem. Take the case of the Ijaws in Gelegele in the Bini Kingdom. They wanted to have a King(Pere) for their community But the Oba Refused. Instead he told them to present whoever they want to use as their KING for him to bestow a Chieftaincy title on him as one of his palace chiefs. Simply because u cannot have 2 KINGS in one KINGDOM. If the Deji wants to bestow a chieftaincy title on the head of the Igbos in his domain it is the most logical thing to do. |

So my name should change from obinna to nnaobi..... Just because my neighbor don't like it.. This is meaningless and childish tussle. This is their culture and way of life. And people must accept it that way because each and every one of us have their own system and culture to uphold. Nigerians abroad do do have such union what do it got to do with the name. This is simply language misinterpretation. I see intolerance. |

okwobros:with due respect sir that is different. The supposed eze in question was not living outside dejis area of influence. Oba of Benin coming to sultan palace with his crown if perfectly okay but a yoruba rep in kano coming to sultan's palace with a crown is not. |

vanbonattel:Sultan of Sokoto is a king of his own domain, Eze Ndigbo is a nobody leader of a social/cultural organisation who was voted. The Obi of Onitcha or any other king from the East would always be treated with the same respect that the Sultan got. So stop comparing the non-entity cultural organisation president with a traditional king. Apples and oranges. I fully support the Akure monarch. Those of us who know the history of this problem are in full support. |

Chuksonyeike:Eze Ndigbo who was also appointing chiefs? By what authority was he appointing Igbo chiefs in Akure that already has a sovereign called Deji? When summoned to the palace, asides the way he was dressed before the king, he had the audacity to be talking back at the king, and saying he had somewhere else that he had to be so the king and his council should hasten the meeting. Akure Youths taught him a lesson of his life. He went to mobilize his Igbo kin who closed down their own shops and were protesting. The Deji then gave traditional backing to their shop closure and declared them forever closed. They were the ones that begged the king to allow them to re-open their shops. So I welcome this move by the Deji, and I know that Ohaneze Ndigbo had also condenmed this Eze Ndigbo rubbish by title loving commoners. |
