Apples and oranges. As much as i understand the part about respecting the tradition of the people but traditional does not thump the law of the land. And i don't see how calling oneself Eze ndigbo in Akure is against the tradition of the land because if it were so, then calling your self the other titles prescribed by the Deji will also be in variance with the tradition. The Deji is just an insecure c.unt (no offense)
yes he's free to call himself the eze but not without the authority of the Deji who is the traditional ruler of the role of akure. the eze can only have the title if the Deji says so. The Deji is in charge of giving and taking chieftaincy titles.

We're talking of an Igbo title and not a Yoruba one. The Eze Ndigbo title has absolutely nothing to do with the traditional stool of Akure. If i decide to name myself the Eze of my family does not the Deji also have the right to interfere?

So Ooni will have to remove his crown if he visits your so called Deji
oga don't try to drag the argument elsewhere. the Ooni is a superior king to the Deji and he'll call himself the Ooni of Ife not the Ooni of akure. if your man wants to keep the eze title let him remove any Yoruba town from the title and call himself the eze of kuvukiland for all we care grin

it has plenty to do. you don't just enter someone's house and call yourself a co-landord. even if you want to be chief tenant it has to be with respect to the cultures and traditions of your host.

BTW if you call yourself the eze of your family no one will interfere. the Deji is the custodian of the customs and tradition in Akure. if you want a chieftaincy title in akure then seek his approval. let the eze change his title to eze ndigbo of kuvukiland and it will cease to be our business

The e-battle in this thread ehn. At times one wonders if these folks are fellow citizens of the same country.

Igbo v Yoruba

slugging it out since 1970 whilst others (esp. the north) watch.

Law of the land is clear on this issue.

Every state got legally recognized Traditional rulers, and the they are given Authority by the governor's.

Every other person/s will get their Authority from the recognized Traditional ruler.

You can't walk in the UK and claim to be King, you simply got no legal backing for that.

As stupid as the "eze ndigbo" title is, it is still eze Ndigbo and not Deji ndi igbo... That unserious deji with an insecure attitude should go and drink pure water..
why don't you people stay in your town instead of you coming to someone's land with crown. small time you will want to contest for Dejis thrown
Re: Forget The Eze Ndigbo Title —Deji Of Akure by SirBrightoc(m):
Why the noise about an Igbo traditional title in Akure, as if Yorubas don't take traditional titles in other kingdoms.
See below the picture of a Yoruba traditional title holder in Gombe.
The title "Leader" is not traditional to Igboland and come to think of it, what does it tend to address, if not a show of shame on the Deji's side.
Please, observe that this man goes by the title "Sarkin" which is a traditional title for Hausa monarch. Even when there is the real Sarkin Gombe, he doesn't feel threatened by this Sarkin Yorubawa in his own kingdom.

wow so if you come to my land your tradition supersedes mine just because you don't believe in my tradition? how will ibos feel if I carry my Dane gun and go on Python hunting trip in some parts of anambra and abia state where is is seriously forbidden? if I come to the east I have to quench my appetite for serial-killing pythons. if you come to the west remove your cap and bow to the king. simple!!! BTW the Deji is the only traditional leader recognised by the law in akure. he has the right to enthrone and dethrone all those smaller chiefs and baales including the eze
I won't talk wid u or @ u!if u come and kill a python! Ur fight are wid D God's of D land not us ask around!

And if you come and insult D igwe or obi or eze

Omo ur fight is wid Him ooooooo no time

But if u kill anyone of us or tk our lands

Omo ur in 4 a longtin

Well the Igbo's have chosen to stand by the title ezendigbo, the deji can send his thugs, this time people will be ready for them.

I thought you people said igbos are Nigerians and not biafrans so which one come be hosts and visitors? If you use the word indigenes and non- indigenes,it would be more understandable. FYI no one is hosting me if I buy a land with my own money and goes ahead to build on it furthermore no one is a visitor in a place he has lived for decades
U can decide to twist the fact as much as u wish, that does not change pooo. Respect ur host or use the lagoon....kiss the truth..

Jealousy has no medicine. My question is, is the Eze ndi igbo fighting for power with the deji?

If not why is the deji worried or is he just intolerant?
Remember when zik was supposed to be premier of the west but was fought by awolowo saying only a westener should be premier of the west, that is what started tribal bigotry in a Nigeria where someone Frm the any state could live happily in any state and even rise to a top position... There was nothing like origin then.....

Now I wonder why this tribal bigot is feeling threatened by a title that holds only ceremonial credence among the igbos

is anybody asking for any legal backing? yes, i can go to the UK and call myself the Eze ndigbo on London and nobody gives a shit. I'm not contesting with the king neither i'm i asking to be recognized by anybody. So, i don't know what the issue is. Eze Ndigbo of Akure is just the head of the Igbo community in Akure and it's environs and has no legal backing whatsoever and they have not trampled on any existing laws.

A part of the news also disclosed something about leadership tussle between two Igbos parading themselves as the elected Eze, same thing happened in Oyo state. Maka why??
The king has spoken sha..... it's a case of "take or leave it" since contesting the king's stand in court won't come out favourable for the Igbos.
Lushore1:
So you for got when your Eze went to the palace with crown on his head and parading himself as a King?.....
But he was wearing the same crown when Deji approached him for funds
It shows that the king has no better things doing than power tussle huh

He thinks life starts and end in Ondo huh

What will happen if he is outside his state visiting a colleague huh

Is he expected to remove his crown huh
Will he enjoy the embarrassment huh
Mtcheeeeew. Let me even ask you guys, what meaningful thing has he done since his ascension on his throne huh

which one is jealousy there? the Deji is constitutionally empowered to give and take chieftaincy titles as he so wishes within his jurisdiction which is akure. if your ibo brothers can't respect other people's tradition then he's free to leave akure. you can't wear your own crown to the Deji's palace and expect him to give u a pat on the back
tell the Deji of akure that I am the Eze of my compound and family.
Let him come and dethrone me if he feels so badly about my position.

Who the fvck told you the Deji approached the Eze for money.....listen and listen good, it's customary that every company and business in Town and cities all over Nigeria contribute towards important event in their domain. Where I did my IT in Ondo state some years back, the company gifted the king of the community #200k and a big bull as their contribution towards the town's annual festival. Every company and business association in Akure don't need to be told before they approach the coronation event committee to drop their donation. kindly do your research on this exposition.

That why I cherish my Benin monarch...the bini culture forbids giving out chieftaincy title to non Binis. And no one can parade himself a monarch of any sort in Benin Kingdom. There is no such title as eze-indigbo or igwe in Benin. To be candid the igbos must learn to obey stipulated rules of their host community...the Deji ain't say you can't reside in his domain, rather he against u having a parallel monarchy regardless of whatever name it comes with...it is not about bring insecure as some igbos re posting here, rather a veil challenge to his regal authority. When u re in Rome, learn to live as the Romans. Such impudence can't be tolerated in Benin Kingdom. Nothing like Eze-indigbo...I guess Benin is d only city with such an exception.

I hope you read the article written by the OP very well huh
You will read where he was officially approached.
Did you also read where his father recognized the title and also settled a dispute between the 2 Eze ndigbos huh

If not please read again and tell me who is wiser the father or the son huh

Do you want to know the truth huh What he is doing is unnecessary, it portrays him as someone who has low self esteem huh

Look the Ndigbo did not start this when he was crowned king, It has been in existence even before he became the king.

Everywhere in the world, the one that organises the Ndigbo is referred to as Eze Ndigbo they in turn listen to him because they speak the same language. Who will handle them better huh

Even the Deji can reach to them quickly via their ruler. That is not to say that Deji is not the paramount king in that State undecided

Wetin them dey drag huh The traditional ruler of ondo state huh
