I initially don’t want to comment on here about the moniker @SURGEE post, but I’m unable to keep quiet seeing many fumes it has generated.
Let me start by saying this; I don’t think anybody should jeered when he/she shares whatever believe that has worked for him/her. But I believe this is a public forum where nobody is compelled to either accept or comment on anyone’s post. If you don’t believe in whatever has worked for Mr.A, just read or better still ignore his/her post and move on with your life!
Whatever the moniker @SURGEE has posted, if it does not work for you, or you seem not to find whatever information you’re looking for inside his/her post (S.O.P, L.O.I, strategy,…whatever!) it is either you post your question/problem and wait for whoever has contribution to it to come and attend to it. What you’re not seeing inside a post you’re condemning may be the saving grace of even an un-born child aspiring to study in Canada.
Part of communication etiquettes demands you understand your audience. We have Christians, Muslims, atheist etc here.
When evangelizing & testimony sharing, the motive is to win souls and build our faith in God.
To the quoted text; the fact that we have other religion practitioners on this thread does not mean that one should not be able to come out boldly to attest to what has worked for him/her or the faith he/she has acted on and worked for him/her. If you’re are an atheist or traditional worshipper or whatever/whoever you worship or are, you’re very welcome to share what works for you and let whoever wants to believe do; and whoever does not want to, should pass by. I see no lack of communication etiquette in what the said moniker posted. He has neither insulted anybody or any belief nor shut anybody from coming to share his/her idea or belief.
I share your opinion. Reading through his post all I kept on wondering was how he structured his research proposals. But I didn't see none of that , all I saw was have faith.
To the bolded, i will still say that if you’re really particular about what you need and you’re not seeing it, rather than engaging in criticism, why not asked the person directly by quoting him/her? If there’s anything you’d like to know that’s not in his/her post, ask politely!, or better still send a p.m to the moniker.
Please and please, it’s a VERY BAD idea when we try to shut people up for sharing what they believed in and has worked for them. I know of some monikers that has left this thread due to criticism to the believe which I know if they’d been, many people would have benefited from them.
Lesson 1 clearly find out from your potential supervisor, his or her willingness to supervise you before applying. Don’t ever dwell on just their interest, let them state it on the mail they send to you that they want to supervise you.
Lesson 2: Always write a research proposal that highlights areas of common research interest among at least 3 Professors within your intended department, especially if you are not required to have a supervisor before the submission of your application. Don’t stereotype the research proposal to just one (1) Professor’s area of interest.

People keep saying the moniker does not share tips, what about the quoted? It is so dis-heartening to see how some people read/listen to pick fault rather than learn.
The said moniker @SURGEE gave so many tips that aided his success story but yet some people will still not see because they’re hell-bent on criticizing his belief. Well I will just highlight few of those tips he shared not because of those who are unable to read and digest his post, but for those who will benefit later
PERSISTENCE AND PERSEVERANCE.
So I geared myself up to resume sending mails to prospective supervisors but many did not respond. Most of those who responded said they weren’t interested or aren’t accepting graduate students for now.
As a Naija boy i had to move on, no shaking!!...i stated checking out other schools and even if it’s a Meng I want to apply to, I try as much as possible to secure a supervisor first hoping that this should be easy for the supervisor since I wouldn’t be engaging in intense research than just a final year project.
Lesson – Anything is possible, keeping fighting for what you believe in even if you don’t have the resources at hand…Call those things that are not as though they were.
Lesson: When failure arises in your quest for success, see it as a process to your breakthrough……Failure makes the testimony sweet!!
HAVE ALTERNATIVES/ BACK-UP PLANS.
Being discouraged by these responses,
I decided to start looking for MEng opportunities which were course based.

NEVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAMS
Lesson: When failure arises in your quest for success, see it as a process to your breakthrough……Failure makes the testimony sweet!!
We all know that NOTHING WORKS FOR A LAZY MAN, but if we can be honest with ourselves, I believe that the said moniker @SURGEE has put more effort and done so much before he got what he got. If he had been lazy, he would have been discouraged ever since considering the money and the waiting period put into the whole process. Whoever deserve commendation should be commended while we put aside our religious differences.
He spent his money, time effort… and many more before he can get all this.
Do you even know what it means for your “letter of intent” to interest some professors let alone accepting to supervise you? If you don’t know, I advise you start trying out or asked people who got has gotten and about their waiting experience and stress they went through before securing one.
P.S- I wouldn’t be around to entertain any form of argument on issues raised about my post, and my post is not meant to point out or call out anybody.
Thanks.

Greetings to you guys. I have important question to ask here. Is it compulsory to add payslip when applying for study visa?
Thanks.
If you are working, you should add it. It is not COMPULSORY however but necessary depending on your case as presented in your study permit application. Any activity you claim should be proven with documentation. If work is your current activity, then it will be advisable you add the payslip.

Hi guys,

Please, I need your opinion. I got a land 6 months ago from a friend and have not bothered to do the change of ownership in my name. I got it from my childhood friend and so wasn't scared or in a haste to change the name on the land documents to my name. We just have a deed of assignment. Can I use this deed of assignment and the land documents with his name on it? Or do I forget using this land document since my name is not on it? I have no other personal asset I can use.

From Obalende, enter BRT bus and tell the bus driver that you're stopping at third Round-about. After stopping, cross to the other side of the road and enter through the gate to the estate.VFS office is just two minutes from the gate and the building is located on your left hand. Ask anybody around there, and the building will be pointed to you.

Attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Long Post Alert

comprehensive list of requirements for study visa application.newbies follow up!

All required CIC Forms, altogether four(4) in number:

- IMM1294 form/study permit form; fill on the computer don't use PEN, validate and sign. If you have been refused visa(s) in any country you MUST answer YES to it in a section provided for it in this very form. Failure is 5 YEARS BAN.
- Lagos visa office instruction form: Included checklist from page 1-5 (tick documents submitted) and Study Permit Questionnaire page17-18 (fill this very questionnaire with pen).
- Family information form, fill on the computer.
- In addition current CIC application fee for both visa & biometrics is N56,000 approximately

Educational documents:
- Waec/Neco.
- B.sc certificate/HND/Masters certificate as the case may be.
- Transcripts.
- NYSC certificate.
- Intending school admission letter & invoice and school fees receipt as the case may be.
- Relevant professional certification(s) if applicable.

Identification documents/others:
- Birth cert. and sibling(s) birth Cert.
- International passport and its photocopies of data page only
- Passport photograph
- police report
- previous visa(s) to satisfy travel history if applicable. If you don't have don't necessarily worry.

Financial document/source of income and proof of relationship

If you sponsor is a working class then the following:
- Employment letter of sponsor, 6 months Pay-slip, work Id and Introductory letter if possible.
- 6 months bank statement of the sponsor with adequate funds and a reference letter attached to it by the bank (bank letter head, signed and stamped).
- Any asset of the sponsor e.g Land documents but in some cases if not available, don't worry
- Sponsors may be self/father/mother/brother/sister/uncle/cousin/inlaw/wife/husband. The idea of family friend I can't guarantee anyone.

If you sponsor is a business man/woman/person/self-sponsor entrepreneur then the following:
- 6 months bank statement of a sponsor with adequate funds and a reference letter attached to it by the bank (on bank letter head, signed and stamped).
- CAC documents/certificate of registration, tax clearance certificate(s), if the already mentioned is not available, invoices, transaction receipts and rent receipts can play here to prove sources of income.
- Land documents if available.

Proof of relationship are;
select as apply to the sponsor you intend using.
- Marriage certificate
- Birth certificate/affidavit of age

N.B: the 2 listed above are the substantial and convincing proves. For example if my sister is married and her husband is sponsoring me. To prove relationship, my birth cert. and my sister's birth cert. come to play. since the in-law is my sponsor, to prove that, my sister's hubby has to get (their/his) marriage certificate and his birth cert./affidavit of age. So the key factor in proving any relationship is marriage cert. and birth cert/affidavit of age. Anyone if applicable I didn't mention is entertained.

In addition, detail sponsorship letter written by the sponsor or by your aid, then signed by the sponsor and affidavit of sponsorship which would be taken to and signed in a High court.

For the principal applicant:

If you are done with youth service, endeavour to explain any gap more than one year
for those employed, List of requirements are:
- Employment letter(s)
- 4/6 months payslips and if your account statement indicates your monthly salary and allowances, point that to the VO via your SOP if payslips are not available to you. In some cases I assume that the VOs point such out on your bank statements and may not bother about payslips.
- Introductory letter as the case may be.
- Study leave in cases if you are coming back or claimed coming back to work with your same organisation.
- Your Personal Bank Statement and a reasonable amount is expected if you are a mature applicant and having worked longer years. I do advice above N1m or surplus if you are opportune. Pension statements and insurance if available as the case may be.

If you are unemployed for more than 1 year and for many years but have tangible productive activity and which may have connection to your intended program and background, you should endeavour to explicitly explain this on your LOE/SOP and provide evidence by means of documents available. But if you don't, you can ask others for a positive solution.

If your are currently serving(NYSC):
- Call-up letter.
- Nysc ID card.
- PPA letter.
- Discharge certificate if you are done serving.
- NYSC statement of account if possible. Make sure you explain to the VO that you are serving your father-land(Nigeria) and it is mandatory for every graduate in Nigeria.
If you are out of service and idle for less than one year, endeavour to at least explain something meaningful you have been doing with your time.

For mature applicants of at least 28 years old and are employed, home ties may be of employment/assets/family/stock and bond etc.
Mature Single applicants that are employed; at least land documents to serve as home tie which the VO assumes would compel you to come back when you can't legally stay in Canada. stock & bond which worth reasonable value may play if any.
Married men/women; your wife/husband and kid(s) are already strong home tie(s).Addition of land documents, car particulars if available is to strengthen the financial/economic ties.

NB: Home ties vary and the VO may assess yours depending on your profile and case, so the above stated especially for Single(marital status) may vary.
In addition it doesn't mean that some documents required for TRV application and was unintentionally omitted and which may be irrelevant would lead to refusal. It won't as long as the relevant ones and ''a must'' is there.

More so, carefully choose your programs especially PGC(d)/dipoma applicants. Very soon, the mistake you made by choosing the wrong program and assuming that it's related when the COURSE MODULES of your intending program don't clearly correlate with your employment or its activities/previous studies, would amount to PURPOSE OF VISIT & CURRENT EMPLOYMENT SITUATION refusals and other refusal factors if other areas ain't taken care of.

Meanwhile those that have wider gap-year (4/5/6yrs more) and intend pursuing studies with diploma/UG afterwards. This style adopted by some is always complex in dealing with such applications and I find it difficult speaking on this aspect.

And Finally put more effort on your SOPs. Make it comprehensive, detailed and free from grammatical errors. Paragraph, structure it and make it professional. Avoid plagiarism, It spoils so many things. It has denied so many even the competitive masters admission in Canada.

I give kudos to baba @Thesoj. I silently followed his posts in part 4 or so upwards when he was HOTCAKE on this thread. I finally give back to this forum and may this very post serve as reference/guide.

Congrats to everyone anticipating approval and yet to apply. Faith and prayers without hard-work is waste.

God bless NL for such an informative forum in sharing real life experience which is a source of knowledge. kudos to the gurus past and present and contributors too.

I believe employment can be proven by presenting other documents like employment letter, letter of introduction or even his account showing the said transfer of money (salary) from his employer. Since he doesn't have payslip, he must look elsewhere to prove employment.

Austinpee4, I have a deed of assignment where myself, the seller and a laywer signed to show the exchange of the piece of land. Isn't that enough? I haven't had time to go change the documents in my name. If they do background check , they would see the seller's name and he prepared the deed of assignment that I want to use. Isn't the deed of assignment powerful enough to take care of all these?
