It should be..... Back in the days before I was even born, Nigerian players all went to Belgium predominantly and grew into European football from there....

That period saw our first golden generation emerge.

Now again... we are seeing several of our youngsters making waves firstly in Belgium from where the big amd modestky big clubs are coming for them....

Look at Ndidi's move from Genk.... look at Simon moses being chased by a few English clubs... look at Henry Onyekuru also...

Belgium can indeed become our mecca in Europe.

And I am not saying the path to the top is the same for all our young players but this is the most advisable and best path for most of our young boys in terms of development and maturity so that our young starlets can move to better teams from there.

I know there are a few who may just make the big move but it is rare. KANU is an example... moved to Ajax, Intermilan and then to Arsenal.... all are big teams.

I remember those days, Belgium pro-league was very popular.

As you have rightly said, I expect agents to focus on selling their players to Belgium if can't secure from the top 5 leagues in Europe.

LOL now u want to bring up away wins. There are alot of leagues like that. Brazil, Mls and even Belgium can go weeks without an away win.

Belgium, Brazil, MLS?? Are you kidding me??

Are you seriously comparing the rate of home wins in the NPFL to these leagues??

In the last round of matches in Belgium before the playoffs, there were three away wins and a couple of draws.
In the week before that, there was also an away win and a draw
In the week before that, there were three away wins.

In the last round of matches in Brazils Paulista A1, there were three away wins
Before that another three away wins,
And before that one away win.

In the MLS, There have been a total of 7 home losses in the first 3 weeks of games..

How many home teams in the NPFL have lost in the last three weeks?? ZERO!!!

The last away win was in February or so..

Arsenal lost out on Wilfred Ndidi before and Leicester fear they will struggle to keep hold of the midfielder

Wilfred Ndidi scored a cracking goal against Stoke

Wilfred Ndidi is Leicester’s best signing since N’Golo Kante and has already rejected the advances of Arsenal.

Yet there is already a fear that Leicester will face a struggle to keep the £15 million signing after another formidable performance in the Premier League.

Ndidi is emerging as a crucial figure in the revival under Craig Shakespeare and added another brilliant goal to his collection against Stoke, further enhancing his growing reputation since arriving from Genk.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Southampton and Hamburg were all keen to sign the defensive midfielder this summer but Leicester’s determination to complete a deal in January enabled them to jump to the front of the queue.

After first scouting him nearly 18 months ago, Leicester began negotiations in the summer and Shakespeare admits that persistence proved vital in the pursuit.

“Our recruitment department take a real pat on the back for that. We did a lot of homework on him and I think we were one of the first clubs, if not the first, to show an interest in him,” he said.

“I think he, and his family and agent, remembered that so we were in the driving seat. When other clubs came in for him he remembered the way we went about it first. He had other options.

“From what you're seeing so far, we've got a good player on our hands.”

Known as ‘Teddy Bear’ during his time in Belgium, Ndidi has already earned comparisons with Patrick Vieira and appears made to measure in English football.

He has only just turned 20 and it sadly seems inevitable that Leicester will face a struggle to keep him at the King Power Stadium.

His strike against Stoke, from 25 yards, was outrageous and set Leicester on the way to a fourth successive league victory under Shakespeare.

Claudio Ranieri’s former assistant has now joined Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Guus Hiddink in winning his first four league games in charge and becomes the first British manager to achieve such a record.

Jamie Vardy added the gloss with an expertly taken volley and Leicester can move further away from the bottom three with a win over seemingly doomed Sunderland on Tuesday night.

Stoke remain in ninth place but there is a sense that major changes are expected this summer under manager Mark Hughes.

He sorely needs to inject some life into an unbalanced, aging squad and will offload a number of fringe players to reinvent his team.

Mark Hughes needs to inject some life into an unbalanced, aging squad

They have not scored in their last four away games ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Burnley but skipper Ryan Shawcross insists their season could still be a success.

“If we finish in the top ten then a lot of people might not see that as a great achievement, but for a club of our size to do that in four consecutive years it definitely would be,” he said.
“Some people underestimate how well we’ve done over the last couple of years and how well the gaffer has done. We’ve been ninth three years in a row and we want to do better this time. It’s still there to be done.”

Leicester bought Wilfred Ndidi to replace N'Golo Kante but can the new boy surpass his predecessor?
By Laurie Whitwell for the Daily Mail

Wilfred Ndidi is mobbed after his stunning opening goal in Leicester's 2-0 win over Stoke

>>Ndidi has already shown huge promise at Leicester since his £15million arrival in January

>>Wilfred Ndidi scored a wonderful goal as Leicester beat Stoke City on Saturday

>>Ndidi blasted in the opener in the 2-0 win as the Foxes moved away from danger

>>£15m January arrival has provided greater defensive solidity in recent weeks

>>Craig Shakespeare joined an elite group of managers to win his first four games

Leicester bought Wilfred Ndidi to replace the chasm left by N'Golo Kante but as each match goes by the evidence stacks up that this previously unknown 20-year-old might one day surpass his predecessor's significant contributions.

In the 2-0 win over Stoke Ndidi scored a wonderful goal from range that scorched through the air, bettering his first fabulous effort in a Leicester shirt against Derby, and provided the defensive coverage and quick transition that is so vital to his side's style.

The £15million Leicester paid Genk in January already appears a excellent use of resources and Craig Shakespeare has revealed that the club beat others in pursuit by virtue of being first to the punch 18 months ago.

Sportsmail understands Southampton and Crystal Palace made hard approaches, while Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham all registered an interest. Hamburg made Genk an offer but Ndidi had made up his mind.

'I think he had other options,' said Shakespeare. 'Our recruitment department take a real pat on the back for that. We did a lot of homework on him and I think we were one of the first clubs, if not the first, to show an interest in him.

'I think he, his family, and agent, remembered that so we were in the driving seat when other clubs came in for him.

'Some players are more interested in financial things but Wilfred has a good humility about him, he's very level-headed. From what you've seen so far, we've got a good player on our hands.'

SUPER STAT:
Leicester had 10 shots on target against Stoke; their most in a Premier League game since 2003/04

Jamie Vardy's second-half volley ensured Shakespeare maintained his 100 per cent record since replacing Claudio Ranieri, placing the former No 2 alongside Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Guus Hiddink in a small group of managers to win their first four Premier League matches. Each of that quartet also all have at least one European Cup on their CV.

'No pressure there then!' said Shakespeare, who takes Leicester into a Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid a week on Wednesday.

He added: 'Those are managers that personally I've looked up to in terms of what they've done. If I could do anything like them, then 'Wow', that would be a great achievement.'

Why do we struggle to win away in Nigeria? Are we regressing from last season again? This is not a new problem, it is a long term problem.

U are not trying to find a fix for anything, this is all to promote some players by downcasting others. How many teams from other countries come and get 3 points in Nigeria? If its so easy why didn't that team from Sudan beat Rivers United home and away?

Some times in football when tactics fails, physic and experience carry you through. Especially in Africa. The team was grossly inadequate in these two.

For eg an NPFL U20 or U19 all stars team would not have crumbled to a team like Sudan under such conditions, including unpaid allowances.

Sunday Oliseh’s Tactics Works Magic As Arsenal Loanee Nwakali Fails To Shine In Stalemate

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh once again proved his technical abilities as head coach of Dutch side Fortuna Sittard in their 1-1 draw against promotion chasers MVV Maastricht.

Oliseh has taken to life as coach of troubled Fortuna Sittard brilliantly by taking the club out of the relegation spot following his appointment in January.

In the game against Maastricht, his team struggled to keep Arsenal loanee Kelechi Nwakali quiet in the opening exchange but he quickly addressed the anomaly and his team seized the initiative.

He ordered his players to close in on the talented midfielder whenever he is on the ball, and it worked for his team with the frustration leading to Nwakali picking up a booking 15 minutes from full time.

The boys of Oliseh are now seven points away from the drop zone, a feat which if sustained will see the coach’s stay at the club extended by a further two years at the club.

Efe Ambrose Coy Over Stoke City Interest – We’ll Know Soon, Summer Is Not Far Away

Efe Ambrose has failed to deny or confirm rumours of interest in his services from English Premier League side Stoke City.

Ambrose has hit a rich vein of form at Scottish Championship side Hibernian, where he is on loan from newly crowned SPL champions Celtic and it has led to talks of a move to Stoke City.

He will be a free player in the summer, and the 28 year old whose move to English Championship side Blackburn Rovers collapsed due to work permit issues might earn a move to England.

The issue of work permit won’t be an issue in the summer, as he is due for Scottish citizenship at the end of the current season in two months time.

”I have never hidden my desire to move to England. I love the league, the culture and the environment but for now am focused on helping Hibernian gain promotion to the Scottish top flight”, Ambrose told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”As for the question you asked me about Stoke City’s interest, all I can say is that am open to offers and I have received some. Soon I will decide, summer is close you know”.

Iwobi Confident Arsenal Will Secure Champions League Qualification For 20th Straight Season

Alex Iwobi is optimistic that Arsenal can finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League next season.

With ten matches left in the Premier League, Arsene Wenger’s side trail fourth place Manchester City by seven points following their 2-2 draw with their rivals on Sunday at the Emirates.

“We still believe that we can be in the top four, and that we can be in the title race as much as we can, but we’ll take it step by step and see where we end up at the end of the season, ” Iwobi told arsenal.com.

Commenting on the point against City, Iwobi said : “It was a very tough match and we were behind twice, so I guess we have to be satisfied with that.”

The Gunners have featured in the Champions League for nineteen straight seasons, and Iwobi has played in two for the London team, most recently the loss to Bayern in Munich.

1+1 is not always 2 in football especially with transfers. Just about anything is possible. I sincerely hope the Nigerians in Belgium currently, move on to greater things than their predisesors.

@bolded shows you are very very wrong. Why?

Tosin Dosunmu moved to bigger things in Europe (Austria Vienna and Nancy) grin

Joseph Akpala move to bigger thing in Europe(Werder Bremen). grin

Rabiu Afolabi moved to bigger things in Europe (Napoli, Sochaux and Monaco). grin

Peter Utaka moved to bigger things (money). grin

It was never due to lack of talent, he followed money when he wasn't given enough chance to prove himself in the Nigerian national team. grin

He was the best wherever he went. grin

Celestine Babayaro moved to bigger things in Europe (Chelsea and New Castle). grin

Daniel Amokachi moved to bigger thing in Europe (Everton). grin

Sunday Oliseh nko? From Belgium pro league to bigger bigger things (Reggiana, FC Koln, Ajax, Juventus and Brossia Dortmund) shocked grin

Stephen Keshi nko..... grin

Marvin Ogunjimi played for the Belgium national team. Therefore, he can't be considered a Nigerian. grin

There's nothing so magical with Belgium as you're making it out to be. So many Nigerian players have torn Belgian league apart but still didn't crack it at any major league.
Who remembers Tosin Dosunmu, Patrick Ogubshoto, Peter Utaka, Joseph Akpala, Marvin Ogunjimi (foreign born just like you like them), Manshe Isiaku etc...

For instance, Peter Utaka was the best striker in Belgium, scoring goals like it was going out of fashion. He lead the goals scorers chart for 2 seasons before he left. But somehow he never got a chance to play in a bigger league. Some of the aforementioned names like Akpala and Dosunmu couldn't hack it when they were given chances in the national team but they usually went on rampage at their clubs.

How many chances was Tosin given?

Who told you Peter Utaka didn't hack when given the chance in the National team? grin

So, Celestine Babayaro, Stephen Keshi, Austin Eguaveon, Sunday Oliseh, Daniel Amokachi, Rabiu Afolabi etc no hack it with the National team, ba? grin
