I need enlightenment I want to invest and make money, you guys should teach me the way now.
Invest in Shares, bonds, treasury bills, gold, pure water business, kunu business or what? You need to be specific. However if its stocks, you can go to page 2000 and start reading from there. You may also google investopedia.com for further reading. Mind you, stock investing is very risky and you must be prepared to loose money. So, I will advise you start with little capital.

Good luck.

BullBearMkt:
THE TREND IS YOUR FRIEND...

Price is always noisy with a lot of fluctuations up and down. This many times make it extremely difficult to determine when to enter/exit a trade with profit. Just like a drunkard going from point A to point B, price will first stagger around to reach points A', A''... before it finally get to its destination at B, Chart 1. This of course is to create emotions (fear/greed) for traders/investors to ensure he/she exits the trade with a loss or at most minimal profit.

A great tool to smoothing out price fluctuations is the MOVING AVERAGE. A moving average of price is based on the close of each bar interval. For example, a daily 20-Day-Moving-Average (20DMA) is the close of the last 20 day bars. It is great on historical data and provides price trending.

The phrase, "...the trend is your friend" was coined to keep traders aligned with the general direction of the stock's price instead of jumping around the price's whipsaw. If the overall price trend is up, traders will want to BUY and if the trend is down, it is SELLING time.

LIMITATION
-Moving Averages on price are lagging. This means moving average reacts to price movement, or price turns before MA makes its turn...

The longer the moving average, the greater the lag but the benefit is you will get a smoother trend. Hence, a 50DMA provides more lag time than a 20DMA, although 50DMA will give a smoother trending than 20DMA.
Nice write up @ BullbearmrkBullbearmkt,

You didn't mention a few other methods to use moving averages.
An important one is when price has moved 2 - 3 standard deviations away from the moving average line.
At such times, the trader looks for reversal signals in order to take a mean reversion trade (that is a trade back to the moving average line).
In my honest opinion, studying measures of central tendency like mean, median, mode etc without adding the use of measures of dispersion like range, standard deviation etc is not complete.

Great job done all the same.
Thanks for the article.

In addition to what BullBearMkt has written about moving averages, I recommend that traders find time to read about VWAP (Volume Weighted Average Price), an important metric used by professional traders.

It is a modified type of moving average that uses the volume traded at various price levels as a weighting factor.

Traders get a little extra commission if they are able to to buy below an up - sloping VWAP.

Trading the mean reversion method I recommended above will guarantee the trader very efficient entries into the market.

The naira recorded a major gain on
Wednesday, closing at 390 per
United States dollar at the parallel
market, up from 405/dollar on
Tuesday. This came barely 24 hours after the
Central Bank of Nigeria announced
the injection of $280m into the
various segments of the forex market
and the commencement of its weekly
$20,000 sale to licensed Bureau De Change operators. Before closing at 405/dollar on
Tuesday, a day after the Easter
holidays, the local unit had closed flat
at 410/dollar for seven consecutive
days. As a result, currency analysts had
expressed concerns over the
exchange rate resistance to the
CBN’s continued dollar supply into
the forex market aimed at bridging
the gap between parallel and official exchange rates. Last week, some currency analysts
predicted the naira would appreciate
this week if the central bank
sustained its interventions in the
market. Some experts, however, expressed
doubt that the CBN possessed the
stock of forex to wage the currency
war .

Everything still looks like Greek to me . Been reading" trading for a living " not done yet. Hope to catch up fast.
But pls what's the meaning of Dma.
200dma = 200 Days Moving Average. To put it in "simple terms": is the average price that particular stock has closed for the past 200 days.

Most analysts believe that, the larger the days (sample size) the larger the amount of error and vice versa.

Large (for want of a better word) number of days like 200, 300, 500 etc are useful for long term investors than short term traders (what we call JIJO over here)
