thesoj:
Some of the major differences between teaching/research in Naija and Canada (well I schooled in the US but c'est la meme chose) are:

1. The emphasis will be on your ability to think independently & creatively, not on your ability to memorize and regurgitate
2. You will be expected to be able to clearly describe your nuanced & complex ideas verbally and in writing
3. You will be free (and even encouraged) to ask many questions from and even challenge your research supervisor and professors (unlike Naija)
4. Your research supervisor will expect you to eventually know more than him/her in your area of research
5. You will be expected to take initiative, not always waiting for the advisor to tell you what to do
6. You will be expected to be able to read and digest journal papers quickly (don't worry this is a learned skill, you'll get better at it over time)

The items above may sound intimidating, but don't worry you'll get better over time as long as you are focused and committed and are the curious unrelenting type. Be free to ask questions of your peers who are better at some things than you. Don't be intimidated by other international or Canadian students who may initially appear better than you. With strategic hard work, you can catch up fast and be competitive with (or even way better than) them. I say this from experience and observation.

What institution is that, and course?
Multiple tuition per semester by 9 then make payments
Sugaro:
Pls am a little confused.
My offer letter didn't come with the tuition fee clearly stated, but a breakdown of the tuition into 9 semesters the program duration (which is 546cad per semester) .

For my program it isn't written. The max number of years to complete is 5 years however. I was advised to complete within 2 years by the school as an international student full time. What's your take still?

Hi
Try and reduce the resolution(dpi) to say 100, while you're scanning each page of your documents on your printer. it'll help greatly reduce the file sizes while still retaining quality. I hope this helps.

Oh, my bad. I ignored the "if" in the "if its been indicated in the reference letter".

since u said u have a good relationship with the bank, let's hope they draft such letter for u. As of today, we are yet to see anyone share such news on this thread. U could be the first.

Okay, try and check the first page of this thread for a procedure on how to shrink file sizes. That should help.

Sighs....thank God that you exist! Apparently, people here believe, everyone on a visa thread automatically wants to "escape Nigeria". I've seen someone here accuse another person of lying, just because the user said, he is only interested in the Canadian education.

I know Nigerians generally have bandwagon mentality, but there's really a lot more you can achieve with a good Canadian MSC/PhD, than just living permanently in Canada. There are multinational companies in Nigeria, Canada and across the world that can give you the expatriate living, especially if you are armed with essential skills, along with your international education. Also, if you have the essential skills, you can easily own a conglomerate in Nigeria. The competition doesn't even exist, as we have very few large companies. Opportunities abound for success in Nigeria. All you need do is, create a business to fix one of the numerous problems that we have. Only that, the physical skill have to be there to achieve anything. It's not a coincidence that Nigeria is currently experiencing influx of highly qualified returnees in virtually every sector. Kene Mparu of Film house cinemas resigned as executive director of Odeon cinemas (the largest cinema chain in uk and probably europe) to start out his own cinema chain in Nigeria. Mo Abudu graduated from top schools abroad, but now she's raking in box office figures of her films, and owns one of the biggest TV stations in Africa. SKILL. Nollywood, oil, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, etc are all being bombarded by foreign educated people, and all people on nairaland want is a Canadian PR? People even cancelling their admissions after PR, because they are more attracted to "hustling".... Nawa.

When in the Next ten years, Forbes list is now dominated by returnees and IJGBs, Nigerians will come and be complaining about some inexistent imperialism.

After my visit to Canada this year and I get a good feel of the country, it is possible that I will get my MBA there. But it is majorly because I want the qualification, the education, and most importantly, to boost my competitiveness in the company I work at the moment. Yea, living in Canada is cool and all, but I'm more interested in eventually heading the worldwide operations of the company I work now. My next promotion will have me transferred out of the country anyway.

Canadian PR is very good too, and i'm not even against trying to get one (if you're genuinely qualified), if you really fancy living in Canada or even just for the sake of it. It is also an important decision, if you want to get jobs in Canadian companies operating in areas of your interest, so you can build your physical skills. Canadian PR is not bad at all, but I just want to clarify that, living in canada all the rest of your life is not the only vision to a "better life". And seriously, if you find it hard to compete against the overwhelmingly half baked people all over Nigeria, I doubt you'll find it easier living in Canada or any other developed country; largely filled with highly qualified people, and there's stiff competition everywhere. Well, except you want to go to Canada just for the spectacle. You know, to count the speed trains and assess the beautiful boulevards, and hitech buildings cheesy.

No one should get me wrong this time, cos I still won't give replies to expantiate or explain my points. A word is enough, they say.
This is how things should be. That's why we Africans, especially Nigerians can't grow cos we are too myopic in their reasoning.

Document Scanning Tip
To get very high quality scans at a low file size, scan your document directly into the .tif or .tiff format at 300dpi color (don't convert another format to .tif/tiff, scan directly to .tif/.tiff), then use Adobe Acrobat Pro to convert it to PDF, and then finally distill the document. To distill, first convert the PDF to postscript [.ps], and then open the .ps file using Adobe Distiller; Distiller will ask you for the distill quality, choose the “Standard” option. The final PDF file size will shrink considerably but the quality will be super high!

Hello house, great work you guys. I've really learnt alot in this forum and I'm still learning anyway. Please I have some few questions to ask and I will be grateful if someone can clarify this for me.

I'm planning to submit my application on Monday {Paper route}. Before I submit, I want to be very sure that my application is on the right track {Especially with my 'purpose of visit'}. I studied Electrical/Electronic Engineering, and I have 2 years as a Telecoms Engineer and 2 years also as a Network Administrator in a Media firm. I have gotten admission to study Information Technology Solutions in Humber College, and I am actually seeking for someone {with a sound knowledged of understanding and writing a good SOP} who can help me review my SOP to see if really I gave a good explanation why I want to study Information Technology Solutions in Canada instead of a course program related to Electrical/Electronic Engineering so that I can make any necessary correction before I go ahead to submit it on Monday.

I will be really grateful if someone can help me in this aspect. Thank you.

Most colleges require at least a Second class lower from Nigerian graduates for an admission

With rare exceptions, I know someone that got admitted in Conestoga college for a PGD. (the person had a 3rd class)

Your references, and professional background, SOP also has a role to play in getting the admission ...

PS.. Please Don't send me a Pm.
Ask any other questions here, you can mention me if need be..

@Austinpee4, please can you be so kind to review my SOP. I intend submitting my application on Monday. I need someone who's good to review my SOP

Austinpee4:

One of the main perogative of the visa officer is to make sure the program choosen by applicants is right!

Once a VO picks up the application form, sees academic and work experience, that in itself has formed the greater part of the decision about the applicant's application.

They most likely will look at the applicant's primary intentions of studying in canada before the secondary parts begin to play out. Besides, what if you spend all the millions to acquire a masters of french lang in canada and the company does not send you there but rather employ a native french speaking national resident in your desired country(This will even be economically likely for any company to do),what then happens to the master you have gotten in canada? Use it in nigeria to get another job that is not likely? (if i can think like this as an ordinary person, what will you expect of people that have been trained for such purposes)

Those visa officers see pass what we all submit as applications. Everything must add up clearly and explicitly.

Did u receive a medical request or u really meant upfront as u rightly said??
If it's the latter, then im afraid to tell u that there is no need to worry, because i can cautiously speculate that from what i have seen and read on this forum and personal experence, that it seems different VOs may handle upfront medicals in two ways.

Some VOs may review all your documents before they update your medical status to passed (meaning there is little time between medical update and final decision)or in some case no update at all prior to final decision( this may be a refusal)whilst others may immediately update ur medical status to passed even without reviewing your document at the time of the update.

You are not alone on this if i rightly understood u. smiley smiley

Greetings to all concerned in this forum, pls I need you to help me out. I just requested for my GCMS notes now through a contact I was able to establish a discussion with in canny. He successfully initiated the request based on the details needed which I sent to him. Unfortunately, I discovered that he mistakenly did not get my email address correctly after calling me to confirm if I got an email from gcms team. Which I confirmed back to him that I did not! I have contacted them via their contact form by sending a mail about the development. Am a kind of worried for not even getting initial email confirmation from them as well, as further email I sent via their contact form. Pls help advice on what next to do. Rgds.
