Bros there's no explora2 sold @ 20k with the free one month subscription. Could be it's just the box with no subscription in it. The least of explora2 price is 42k and thats the compact bouquet. The premium bouquet is 52k while the compact+ bouquet is 47,100k. Maybe the guy at GRA office was talking about the Zapper decoder but definitely not Explore 2.

I was there yesterday and a man bought the decoder right in front of me for 20K, i even upgraded my old silver non HD decoder to zapper for just 8000. Zapper with free sub is 18K.

I was attacked in a thread for saying an Igbo woman shouldn't make fake gucci and versace shoes. They were mad at me because to them it is okay to make bootleg items.

With trash like that why wouldn't Nigeria be backward.

Nigerians cannot handle the truth about their shortcomings. Period.

This is awkward... embarassed

An ignorant racist writes nonsense and some Nigerians are accepting it as gospel truth.

While we accept that Nigeria is a country bedevilled by corruption, this kind of generalisation has rendered the article nonsensical. How can you say 'every Nigerian is a scammer'? The most notorious scammers in history are Americans, Europeans and Asians. Every crook hiding in cyberspace can claim to be Nigerian because we already have a bad rep.

I dismissed the entire article when the silly writer inferred that Nairobi is in West Africa. I cannot take the thoughts of such an ignorant person seriously, whether black or white.

As for the Emmanuel who commented on the blog, he evidently belongs to that class of Nigerians in Diaspora who display their rock bottom self esteem and inferiority complex by being more American than the Americans.

Crap!

few write-ups in this thread contain as muush truth as this

We all speak from our perspectives really hence the danger of generalisation. If you are a Nigerian whose only interaction with foreigners was your multi-national colleagues, you would actually think the westerners (rather than Africa) are scammers. Can this be generalised ? No

The lady is speaking from her perspective (and hateful pre-convictions) while Emmanuel is looking for western acceptance.

You maybe right....that the maker was presenting what people wanted. But doesn't it say something about who we are?....when majority of us buy pirated and faked items....we are always looking for short cuts.....both the makers and the consumers. Short cut to riches....shortcut to success. doesnt matter at whose expense.

Yes you may also be right that he is not a Nigerian business person. Because, if you do things the right way here....you most likely won't succeed. So we are back to the same point....the point being that.....there is something wrong that we need to correct

All fingers should be pointed to those 30 private jets gathering of wolverine at IBB center. In a clime with functional systems and operations, crime is reduced drastically.

Did you know that there is a country in this world where they shut down their prison facilities? That's the power of a functional system that we lack.

Americans are so good at profiling others of what they themselves are guilty of. Our yahoo boys are learners where they are, talk about hacking, fake credit cards, fake receipts et al were all cons started by their own citizens. They've(Americans) now upgraded to pinching millions in the stock market by cloning while naija boys are pulling credit card scams.

Let's not also forget that up till now America is still exploiting Africa particularly oil producing countries even making Africa a dump site when their stupid innovations get rejected by Asians

I can perceive her hurt from her write up, she's probably been a victim of yahoo boy, cry on baby. 180 million people are also victims of your government's mass exploitation

Can you actually say the number of people involved in 419 is less than a million?

If you have to debate that in your head then that's not generalising.

if it is a million then it means, 99.5 percent of Nigeria's 200 million population are not into 419
if it is 10 millions then it means, 95 percent of Nigeria's 200 million population are not into 419

do you see why it still could be generalising?

1. I was stopped at a police check-point once, and they held me for expired car registration which only expired the previous week. I begged for mercy, and they asked me to bring 10k; I insisted I only had 1k, the policemen patted me down, and then proceeded to search my car for money. Checked my sun-shields, checked under and in-between the seats -searched my bag . . . all for a bribe.

2. My mechanic is in Anthony, my rewire in Ilupeju, and my A.C man in Ogba. It took me several years to get this scattered crew - not cos each workshop did not have technicians offering all of these services, but cos these people would inflate prices, still do a shitty job, so I can come back to get duped some more. I once went to fix something in my car, and my mechanic called later in the day that my carburetor had packed up and needed a replacement costing 30k; after a lenghty angry argument, my mother intervened for peace sake, and paid from her own pocket 18k to the mechanic to get it sorted. A few months later I was relasting my experience to a frend, and he looked at me puzzled - 'Your car uses an injection system - it does not have a carburettor'.

3. The previous EXCO for my estate was suspected of embezzling estate funds and voted out. The new EXCO inherited x million, and proceeded to try jacking up estate dues by 100% - their reason, the estate cannot subsist on the previous contributions (that even had enough left over to be embezzled).

4. A random fellow at work is getting married and sells aso-ebi to folks at work (I decline to buy). People complain the material is inferior (in relation to price), but dude swears on his mother's life that he added nothing on the price. Someone saunters into a shop in Balogun one sunny saturday, and finds the same fabric for 1/3 of the price it was sold to us.

5. I once resigned from a government job I got straight out of school cos everyone there was indolent and only seemed to look forward to how much they would make. I was young, and wanted to use my brain. My relatives berate me as a fool that does not want to make it in life.

6. I know people requesting for cash gifts from relatives to fund jacked up bills at school.

7. If you are not careful, your Uber driver would try to scam you by taking a much longer route.

8. Like clock-work, NCAN announces drug-dealers caught in Asia, and yahoo boys in South Africa - guess their nationality?

9. A number of hard-working Nigerians in America and the U.K are wary of other Nigerians so they don't gt into trouble either law enforcement.

10. The campus cult Bucaneers is steadily growing into a global criminal empire with strong presence in Italy and Spain with known rackets in woemn trafficking and drug smuggling.

11. I have been sold a car with hidden mechanical faults by a d**khead who swears that if he cheated me Ogun should ruin his life and that of his un-born children.

12. I have witnessed a catholic priest embezzling funds from the church bazaar, and heard of big-time pasterprenuers sleeping with church members.

13. We have celebrities always on vacation in Dubai and other lush locations spending money like it is going out of fashion who we all know make it from runs.

14. We have tons of prostitutes (road-side and 'runs' are the same thing) who are respected members of their clans.

15. ASUU is always on strike to arm-twist the government into increasing pay, which in turn would boost their productivity. If poor pay was the case, we could explain away Lecturers taking bribes from students - ow then do we explain females students being threatened to pull their panties off if they want to graduate?

16. A lot of female job-seekers and marketers have been told point-blank to drop panties without benefit of being considered on merit.

17. I have extra cash and want to start a side-business to be tended by a sales-boy, but I'm cautioned by folks who have had their fingers burnt. In one case, the sales boy was selling the wares and re-stocking thus keeping profits stymieing the owner who has to bear the operating expense of the shop.

I want to be outraged and call the blogger's post an expression of (racism? Can you call it racism when it's not a race but just one country or a section of a continent?) a bigoted mindset but my objective self knows that quite a few of the things written therein hold some level of truth. Sure the writer exaggerated a bit and embellished some "facts" but let's be honest. A large percentage of us Nigerians are dishonest and corrupt on some level. Whether it's at our workplace, in school, even in places of worship. Lots of Nigerians just constantly try to take advantage of you, try to game the system, try to cut corners. And the worst part of it is that when we do all these, we seek some form of justification for them instead of feeling guilt. It's why I find I religious piety so ironic. Most of us are such dedicated Christians and Muslims yet we are corrupt to the core, sometimes carry put acts of corruption with a Bible/Quran in hand. I don't care that there are also scammers, fraudsters and criminals in the US; that's their business. I'm not an American so I can't be lamenting about whatever crimes are being committed there by their people. I'm a Nigerian and the way we Nigerians deal with each other, deal with other and our general approach to society and civilization gives me serious cause for concern. I have sometimes entertained the thought that when I have kids, I would leave the country for good because I wouldn't want them tainted by this air of corruption and incompetence that seems to pervade our very atmosphere. But then I owe it to my people to, in my own small way, point out what we (and I mean ALL of us, not just some specific tribes) are doing wrong so that future generations will grow up in a Nigeria with the right societal values. But when you consider just how many people you have to tell the truth to, omo, you'll just be weak.

Every business has a budding stage just as how many people go into business for many reasons. Some go into a particular business to create a name -a long lasting one while some go into a business to avoid hunger. The girl may be in the later category I just mentioned who's just trying to make ends meet and jump upon the next available job she sees that would pay her 40k a month.

But he also forget to include that Nigerians are hypocrites, they say all the good and wonderful things in public and do worse in private, take them seriously at your own risk... No wonder with all the glaring points, some folks are still telling us here it's racism.. Even when the points are still staring at us.

Life is not always as straight as you just made it seem. Every society don't deserve the kind of leaders they have. Do you know about imposition and manipulation? Nigerians were great people before the Whites came and introduced some new concepts to us. I appreciate some of the good things they did but in the process they planted some really bad seeds. How they made sure they amalgamated NOrthern and Southern Nigeria despite knowing it will never work to how they made sure power went to the North despite knowing they were least qualified. How they caused division and planted corruption from the foundation of NIgeria. These seeds germinated into some unqualified people ruling over more educated and literate people which gave rise to hatred and animosity. Which later gave birth to crisis and corruption. corruption gave rise to people trying to form new method of adaptation. When the system is bad, humans will naturally try to formulate new ways to adapt. All the problem of NIgeria can be traced to the Europeans. Read the history of Bini and you will see how sadistic the Europeans are. or better still, that of Jaja of Opobo. All blames still lies on the Europeans. Our only fault is our weakness which I agree is a very big offense.
from jaja of opobo to Bini history to the amalgamation of The southern and the northern protectorate and even to the black American society, I agree with you that injustice and has been done....but then, That's history.....we should have by now risen above the effects of all that. With the reasonable level of autonomy we have as a country. America itself was manipulated and imposed upon, yet they conquered.

If we continue accepting ourselves the way we are....we will never stop being the victim. Let's set higher standards for ourselves.

Back in school, I used to frequent a cybercafe close to where I stayed off campus and, believe it or not, these guys had a special room in the cafe at the back for internet fraudsters. The day I found out, I was amazed. The owner of the cafe told me himself but he wasn't bothered because they were his most regular customers. Look at this whole forex flux that caused the recession. Even now that the value of the Naira against the dollar has stabilized to a fair amount lower than it's worst point, people are still selling goods for the same price as when the naira hit 500 against the dollar. Some are even increasing the prices of their goods and services and blaming it on the dollar. What is this if not taking advantage of others? It's so widespread, it's not funny.

Hmmm... I can't blame the person that form the story. To be honest 80% of what's there it truth, but condemning all the citizens is bad. The person that wrote he was scammed twice the amount of dstv Explorer after going to confirm from the real store is a fool for bringing up that statement. Every where you go, courtesy demand for you to do research before buying any goods at all. He knows the real store then why did he buy it from the small shop at the nearest. Be Wise in dealings, don't be too quick to buy cheap things or not to cheap because you have the money. Correction, Nigerians is only label has most corrupt country because of our useless leaders that tend to spoil the country name due to their selfish interests. Every newspaper is talking about how Mr A stole 50b naira and stash it his/her wardrobe so on. Imagine that going around newspapers all over the world . why won't they tag us with bad names. Indians, Americans, Russia etc won't be tag as such because of their leadership role in their country and the world at large even though these countries are top of most corrupt. To be sincere every individual should change his/her behavior for good in this country. God bless Nigeria, God bless her citizens. Amen.

There are criminals all over the world without exception. The problem with Nigeria is that the number of criminals and dishonest people far far outnumber the honest people.

I have been to a lot of places and never have I seen a place where the super majority are criminal minded like Nigeria.
Too bad. the write up is painful but true.

Gentleman and ladies, it would get worse if our political and structural elements remains like this. Nigeria started deteriorating when poverty indices started going up from the 70s and 80s and it gets worse as years go by. I wonder how Nigeria and Nigerians will be by 2040

Our judiciary system is compromised and the government is not doing enough to convict people implicated in corruption cases in Nigeria, especially politicians, it's not enough to say return 90% of the loot and keep 10%, you are only making corruption lucrative and people will try to steal more. All of this corruption is now telling on the economy and everyone is trying to take a piece of the pie either by hook or crook, be it olopa, y-boys, fraudsters, individuals, politicians etc

I sympathise with Americans, they have really been hit hard with Internet scams from Nigerians that even the average Nigerian in America is looking for a whitie to take advantage of, I wish Nigeria would be restricted from the Internet to reduce the tarnish on our image but yet again, Nigeria is trying to be up-to-date with global technology.

We start from ourselves. The British planted bad seeds? Well, now we are the farmers who own and run the farm. Instead of sitting at home, blaming the British for planting bad seeds, shouldn't we get down to work fixing what is wrong? I have never been a fan of the blame game because you know what? It achieves nothing. But we Nigerians blamed yesterday, we are blaming to day and, by the looks of things, we may be blaming forever instead of fixing our system and our culture.
We can set to work and we can blame ourselves for the weakness but for the same people that orchestrated the whole thing to turn around and blame us for what they're directly responsible for just make me want to curse them out.

Shallowness A man wakes up in the morning to insult my home and you expect me to accept all he said hook line and sinker.

Let me ask you this....

America has the highest number of inmates in prison, guess they are all Nigerians abi....?

See every country has its fair share of good and bad individuals, but trying to magnify Nigeria's own as if all all Americans are saints is what am against. yes there are scammers in Nigeria, does it mean you and I are one

I'm trying to make you know that this isn't an insult on us. Yes the average Nigerian is one so far he's benefiting something - money wise. The system tolerates and encourages them. I ask, how many Nigerians tell their sons, friends, neighbors to go and return back stolen objects. I was once in a bus and the conductor gave me a money and said that it dropped from me. I collected it and checked to confirm that it was not mine, then handed over to him. You need to see the reaction of everybody in the bus. You may never know the character of the average Nigerian until the situation warrants him to show his character. This is why people's religiosity mean nothing to me when discussing business. And if they try to magnify it to show alignment with me, I become very suspicious.

If you still don't really know all this, I will assume that you're an honest Nigerian that is naive. Wait till you experience first hand.

Some things written there are so true, some Nigerians are shallow minded which is why the "Churches" are thriving.

Parental guidance is at an all time like low.

Wait till you get to China, you will realize that Nigerians are saints. grin
