Hello Guys,

I am thinking of going to the U.S.A in the fourth quarter of the year to relax, I have been to one African country before and I would be working as a contract staff with a F-500 company in the UK during the summer would be making about 7k pounds. I do not intend to overstay in the US plus I have a sister who is an American Citizen, what category of visa do you think I should apply for?
Tourist-want to relax after long summer job,
general visitor-want to go visit my sister.

Plus I am a recent UNI graduate too.

Which Do you think is ideal and can I apply from the UK or I should come back to Naija after my summer in the UK to come and apply?

Is it that they cannot relax in UK after a long summer job?

And what is general visitor? It doesn't exist in US visa application

IMO, the voice didn't believe that you weren't pregnant
You can wait till you actually get pregnant (joke)
Or reapply and set out your ties in your ds160 and the fact that you aren't pregnant and don't intend to birth with the visa. I'm sure you know the flip side to that...
IMO you ought to be given the visa. Read the birthing thread for tips on how to get a VOs attention. I once wrote a lengthy piece on that. No motivation to retype. Good luck

Thanks so much lady G, but how do I strengthen my ties in my next application, since I'm married and I have a job already, do I change the information I filled in the DS160 since they have it in their database or stick to the status quo. How do I go about it please because I really don't understand how to strengthen ties and have searched from the threads,I didn't see it,please help me out and how soon can I reapply??

Thanks

please I need your response sad
1. Why do you need to travel all the way to Nigeria to apply for a US visa?
2. Earliest available date for interview is found on the site. The earlier you fill, submit and schedule your appointment the better.
3. You have got good travel history.
Whether you will be granted a visa is the sole prerogative of the VO. Just be honest whilst filling your form. Good luck.

You apply for a B visa (read the website And learn more)
You apply from where you have ties. IMO a contract job does not qualify as strong ties Cos it has a tenure. So I don't think applying from the UK is ideal.
However u have to evaluate yourself. Do u have ties in Naija? Read the thread and see examples of ties

I never mentioned increasing ties. I asked u to reapply as is and put in effort during the actual interview to get the VOs attn. And to fill in the stuff I earlier mentioned in the US 160 . There S a column for y you were denied. Make use of it.
Changing info is misrepresentation, unless u lied the first time.
U can reapply immediately.

Good morning Nairalanders,

First I'd like to say thank you to everyone keeping this platform updated, informative and supportive... Reading throught this thread, I can only imagine the multitude you have tremendously assisted.

I had my interview for a B2 visa last week to visit my boyfriend (American). Unfortunately however, I wasn't granted. Reason given was, I quote, '' You're a pretty, single lady and you work for yourself so you don't have strong ties ''. No questions about my family and investments were posed.
I am well traveled over the past 10 years, and lived and studied in Europe for a few years. Never broke a law or overstayed. The VO saw these in my passports.

My boyfriend wishes me to reapply in time for the 4th of July Independence Day celebrations. I guess my question is, how long MUST I wait before I am allowed to reapply, and when the VO said I don't have strong ties because I work for myself, does this mean this has to change before I can reapply? Does she want me to marry him, since she mentioned me being single? *OK, kidding here*.. I own the majority shares of my company, and it does very well in the Marketing and Advertisement industry. I would think I would do less well working for another establishment.
Your advice and support would be greatly appreciated.

"YOU ARE AN ADULT"

- Can you share your transcript, while you do that, lets look at a few things:
1. Are you 21 and above?
2. Are you working?
3. Have you applied before?
4. Why were you travelling with your dad and were you asked that question and what was your response, if asked.
5. Be honest. Did you apply with your dad, to increase your chances?

esteeino13:

Re: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by KaptainAfrika: 9:44am On May 23, 2017
1. Don't reapply again, immediately. Do that maybe in 3 months time or when you guys have been married for a year.
2. Do not. I repeat do not select B2 medical visa for your next interview. Why? Because it would mean that you lied about the intent for your visa.
3. The VO probably suspects you wish to give birth in the US and you lied about your intent.

Burgundy29:
Hi everyone, please I need your advise. My husband and I applied for US visa last week and we went for our interview today but my husband is familiar with the US,he has been to the US so many times and we are newly wed also.I have only been to Dubai but my husband was given the visa and I was denied. The VO didn't ask so much questions from myself and my husband, she only asked if my husband and I have travelled together,I told her No, also asked when we got married, I told her 3 months ago, she asked if I was pregnant and I said no and I was given the GREEN paper and she wrote on the paper that I have not demonstrated that I have any ties and don't have any strong ties that indicates that I will return to my country after a temporary visit to the US. Such ties include professional, work, school, family or social links to a foreign country. I filled in my form that I'm a lawyer in a law firm ,am married, earn 200k per month and they still denied me. I want to reapply again, pls kindly advise me on how to go about it and what step to take.
Thank you.
Re: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by KaptainAfrika: 9:49am On May 23, 2017
What is stopping you from overstaying your visa, if you get the visa, since your boyfriend is an American and based in the US? You need to prove that you will return by having a very strong tie to Nigeria. Unless you can prove this, you may just be denied every time. That is the only issue the VO has, in my opinion.

Thanks for your response KaptainAfrika. As you know, you can only respond to questions asked after all. I do have strong ties, but the inquiries she was interested in didn't suffice I guess. The questions she asked:
1. Wow, you're a globetrotter. And I see you've been to the UK a couple of times. What was your purpose of travel? - First time was as a tourist visiting alone, the other times I was visiting my boyfriend for vacation.
2. Tell me about your trips to Germany. - I take my annual vacation mostly during summer, and spend most of it there. Also, I did a short course in Project Management there.
3. Dann sprechen Sie deutsch! (Interview continues in German, asking the first set of questions all over again.) I responded well. I'm fluent in the language.
3. You work with XYZ (Switches back to English). Who owns this company? - I own the controlling shares of the company.
4. What does your company do? - told her.

End of interview.

Phew! So sorry about the refusal.

You do have an interesting profile... funny enough, that's where the problem lies.

It's great that you work for yourself and you are obviously doing well on your own. However, you work in marketing and advertising... it does mean that you can work remotely which is a red flag... think the VO was probably wondering what exactly would be your motivation to come back.

Many people go to the US on a B visa, get married and then adjust status... so the VO will have to be convinced that you do not have any INTENT TO IMMIGRATE.

see these posts from quora.

https://www.quora.com/Can-I-get-married-in-US-ON-A-B1-tourist-visa-and-later-convert-to-dependant-visa

https://www.quora.com/Is-getting-married-to-a-US-citizen-while-in-the-US-with-a-tourist-visa-legal-And-does-this-automatically-make-one-a-citizen

So, because it is a big possibility to get to the US and "change your mind" the onus lies on you to convince the VO otherwise.

My advise?
a. Can your boyfriend come and visit you in Nigeria? Have you been dating for long?
b. You can apply again (after he visits) and make a strong case in your form when explaining why you were refused.

All the best

Hi Fyorgyn, thanks very much for your feedback, links and advice. I found them very useful. I'm actually just learning about that possibility, hence seeing it a little better from the VO's perspective. Actually never thought you could get married on a B2 visa!
This isn't my intention however. I do things pretty much by the book especially when it comes to international affairs.

My boyfriend and I have been dating for about a year now, and he was last here in March (2 months ago). He asked if he should take a flight back here next week after hearing about the outcome of the interview. I wasn't sure it would make much of a difference on this issue. Just want to try again before resorting to that.

How long is the wait time before one is allowed to reapply after an initial denial?

Many thanks

You are welcome.

Oh you can actually reapply immediately. A friend of mine did that (different circumstances though). She was going for a conference sponsored by her office and was initially denied. She re-applied immediately and explained her situation in the ds160. She was granted.

So, yes I think you can reapply and state your case clearly in the DS160

Well i dont know if they have slots or not, but i sure know that at 25 you are "An Adult", you should have ties independently and will not be evaluated on your dads ties. It is better your apply alone, this way the interview will be on you, you can have all the interview time to convince a Vo.

Hnmmmmmmm in my own opinion she should reapply as soon as possible another V.O may not see any big deal with her traveling to see her Boyfriend unless they have not met before... this leads me to Linda Ikeji first U.S visa interview way back when they asked her what she does for a living and she said she owns the biggest blog in Africa and they checked and confirmed and issued her the visa ,she can decide to stay back and work remotely and she's single as well.... I believe the applicant is not convincing enough at a stage in that interview... My advice is for her to work on it and re apply.

Thanks Seyewest, for your input.

Do you think I should hold his passport with me? That way, they can also verify he was last here in March to visit me. Or would it be advisable for him to come here? In which case, would they allow my boyfriend to attend the NIV interview with me?

Many thanks

VO: sorry bla bla,

Fast forward to last Friday
Our appointment was for 7:15 we got to the embassy around 6:40, and joined the queue for our time.

I had noticed the previous night that I booked my appointment with my daughter's gtb receipt number and hers mine.
I was a bit nervous, praying we won't be sent back.

We were checked and passed in to the main hall, and I noticed in Lagos the embassy tout have their boundaries very far away from the embassy sensitive area, unlike in Abuja where they are everywhere ' as at last year'

So we got in did all the checks, and was waiting our turn on the queue, the Chinese guy was nice that day and an America VO, I was hoping to interview with one of them, that was how I heard , the elderly ones and those with kids below six will be expedited, they were moving us out of the line and I fall in front of the Indian lady, I was the third on the line. She refused the first lady, I didn't really pay attention to her interview. But the woman right in front of me was just shouting at her ' I want to go to amelica' she asked her where in the US she wanted to go to like 4 times before she said New Jersey, she was there shouting ' I want to go to amelica' the VO had to refuse her.

Then it got to our turn

VO : smiling at my daughter, they both were waving at each other. Good morning madam

Me: Good morning ma

VO: she was taking some time , still smiling at my daughter, she looked at me and said have I attended her interview before, I said no but I have been denied before, she said she is bringing my previous interview up to check.

Me : okay

VO: what do you do

Me : am an experience center manager

VO : you still work with ......

Me: yes, and I got promoted last year

VO: is that your only child

Me: yes

VO: where does your husband works, I filled him as my sponsor

Me: states his position and where he works

VO: why are you interviewing in Lagos this time

Me : that's because I was posted out of Abuja last year from work and Lagos is the closest location for me right now.

VO where are you going to

Me Florida, Orlando Florida

VO why is your husband not going

Me he wants us to go on this trip but subsequently he 'll join

VO where does your husband work

Me told her what I said before

VO how long has he worked there

Me 6yrs

VO how many kids do you have

Me Just her

VO how long have you been with......

Me 7yrs

VO how did you know about the hotel

Me we got it from the internet

VO are they offering anything

Me complete 12 days package.

Me :you too, you too, erm thank you ma.

Thanks Seyewest, for your input.

Do you think I should hold his passport with me? That way, they can also verify he was last here in March to visit me. Or would it be advisable for him to come here? In which case, would they allow my boyfriend to attend the NIV interview with me?

Many thanks
Saying friend makes it easier than boyfriend ask him to scan a copy of his passport data page and Nigeria visa take it along for your interview....build a convincing argument about reason why you will return.

My 2 cents.
"The visa validity is the length of time you are permitted to travel to a port-of-entry in the United States." Read more on travel . state . gov

The real challenges are:
1. Will the airline take you? Or more practically, will those airport officials allow you check-in? If you know your rights and insist, they may eventually will. You will need to ask the airline for their policy. Sometimes, they are scared (and rightly so) that missing a connection could lead to your arriving late at the POE.

2. You will be convincing the CBP at the POE. If they allow you in, you will be duly stamped in for 6 months or whatever duration the CbP decides.
The visa allows you to get to the POE, to be interviewed for entry: outcome of which interview can be yes-yay, or no-go back.

That said, leaving Lagos on the 3rd of June is pretty borderline.

Dropbox: I don't know whether there is enough time before the 3rd.
