No need to arrest her. In an ideal setting, you just wait for her to deliver and then take away her baby and give to the maid's parents.

I'm really not surprised. Women are the worst abusers. Give them the power men have and watch them bring chaos and anarchy.

Why won't she be on edge?

Her lover and companion deported from God knows where and why.
Her lover and companion residing in another man's country looking for God knows what.
Her lover and companion left her with two small children to take care of.
Her lover and companion left her pregnant with all the attendant stress.

Shattered dreams have never left anyone dancing with joy in the market.

Shattered dreams, disillusionment, disappointment, broken toys..........................

Madam, sorry, oooooo! I wish you had friends and good neighbours.

Just curious...

How is this justice for the dead child?

Isn't this putting the newborn at risk for the same fate?

I'm sure the newborn would be hated for what her parents did. If she also gets killed by the maid's parents, I guess that's an eye for an eye.

But is that justice?

What would you propose be done to parents who kill their own children?

A little girl that could not protect herself and who had nowhere to run to was beaten to death, you will except some women to condemn this but throughout the first page not a single woman commented! If the news read 'woman beaten to death by husband' they would have swarmed the thread whining about 'domestic violence against women'. The truth is that lots of women are violent and aggressive, it is just strength that fails them, place in their trust someone they are stronger or more powerful than and watch the personification of savagery.

God bless u brother.. The hypocritsy in our society is just too gross...

I needed a nanny to take care of my son after school hours on a monthly salary. Through a relative of mine I met a man who lost his wife and found it difficult taking care of his five children. He begged me to take one of his children and train as my own child that he doesn't want money from me. That teenage daughter of his has spent over a year with me and I am responsible for her education. I live in a 2 bedroom flat and share a room with my wife and my son. The girl has a room to herself and she relates freely with everyone at home. What we eat is what she eats and she even has a right to cook what she fancies. I take her as my own daughter. My son never calls her by her name and simply refers to her as aunty. If you maltreat someone's child today it will happen to your own child tommorrow. I once witnessed a woman maltreat her maid at church on new year day of 2015.Ever since that incidence I have been directed by ushers to seat on the same row with her twice and I refused because I didn't want to call her an idiot. If you have a maid and you treat her badly thinking that maid won't achieve anything in life you are in for a long thing. The maid denied quality education or a vocational training will likely end up a better person than your offsprings in life. What goes around comes around. A maid is not a maid by choice it's simply based on a situation.

Justice is for the benefit of the living, not the dead. After death, the next thing is judgement. Jailing a murderer does not in any way affect the fate of the deceased, it only brings relief & a sense of closure to the living loved ones.

Morality aside, an eye for an eye is more ideal than jailing a murderer. Or how do you justify feeding, clothing and accommodating for life someone who has taken another person's life?

and what if the maid's parents can't afford to take of the baby? I mean, if they had the means their child would not be a maid to someone else in the first place.
That woman needs to be arrested, she should face the law.... but she should be allowed to deliver before facing her punishment.
What happens to the new born baby after the mother is incarcerated?

Ideal? Someone committed murder, you say she should have her child taken away as punishment. You think a murderer really could care so much about her children? Thank goodness we have proper laws.
Even the hardest of criminals have loved ones they would die for, not to talk of their own children.

she has to deliver her baby in prison and the baby handed to motherless homes ,while she will be hanged or serve life imprisonment.
Not a bad idea.

Trustworthiness:

Will she be the to be responsible for the new child till she reach 8 years of age?
She won't even be responsible for herself in jail not to talk of another person. The idea behind my suggestion is (a semblance of) compensation.

Unfortunately, it can never be the same.

There can never be another Miracle cry cry cry .

It's really sad. Thank God for the Lagos State govt and other states who take child abuse issues seriously. We all have a responsibility to safe guard children and other vulnerable adults. We all should be whistle blowers in cases like this.
True. I feel for the parents of that poor girl.

Ok. So, using your logic, where is the justice for the innocent newborn who you say should be given to a family who would probably hate him/her because of the crime of her mother?

The newborn will be alive, so he/she deserves justice too? In an ideal world.

Tough one. What would you recommend? Jail her, only to be released in a few years by a merciful judge or governor, or in a jailbreak, etc; while the parents of the deceased keep wallowing in anguish?

Like you said, no easy fix, or maybe no fix at all.

The parents of the deceased will wallow in anguish regardless of what is done.

And that is because nothing will ever bring their girl back. Also, they will be burdened by the guilt of their action of sending her to live with the murderer. And that will be their burden for life.

Punishment should be to prevent recurrence of the crime.

So the beautician should be kept away so that she will never have access to any child forever. So that our children are protected from harm. The judicial system will need to determine the degree of her guilt and how severe that punishment should be.

However, the more important thing is that punishment should be a deterrent for others who could potentially commit the same crime. This type of thing happens daily in our communities. And unfortunately, a lot of people don't see anything wrong with it.

And one of the reasons for this is that crime mostly goes unpunished. If other guardians of children know that they will be punished for doing wrong to minors, the crime will decrease.
