Can anyone please confirm:

Is this even remotely possible from the diaspora, or do potential investors living overseas (without Nigerian bank accounts) have to travel to Nigeria to invest in TB?

I'm looking to invest between £5000-£10,000.

Thanks

Open a diaspora account with first bank. I did it few weeks ago from Canada

Pls if I may: what will be the tenor for a NTB bought in February for 180 days? Also if the maturity falls during the weekend does the bank credit you or wait till week days?

Your question is somehow confusing... but If you actually meant Tenor then you have to know (for the primary market) the exact date (Thursday) in the auction week you subscribed in February or (the Secondary Market) the exact date your request took effect in that February then you can count the days from then to get 182.

If what you meant is a the rate..., Is your investment still running or has not yet mature? if yes, you can ask the bank or the investment house you used to give you a certificate or proof of investment there you will see the rate the bank gave you.

For your second question, treasury maturity never falls on weekend. It always mature weekdays ; precisely Thursdays.

Happy new month. All I want to say is

Compound interest is a very great force.

take this scenario
A man who has 5million naira saved up and is working, can plan for retirement on time. How?
Let's say he compound his invests 5m annually @ 15% in Tbills and he contributes only 200k at the start of each year. After 20yrs, he will be a multi millionaire, making 105million. screen shot below

Ex2:Similarly one who compounds 1million annually @ 15% and adds 100k only at the start of each year,
After 20yrs, would have made 28million naira

Money enough to train his kids through university by then.

Ex3: For the ballers and top shot callers here, with 20million invested for only 5years @ 15% and with a yearly addition of 4miillion naira.
In 5yrs, u would have made 71million naira
Money enough to get start two housing projects.

One for personal use, and one for rent

#It may seem impossible due to fluctuation in tenor rates and
human desires for worldly things, but I tell u

If you decide to be a true disciple of compound interest, at least in a safe haven like tbills not a speculative market like stocks or lands or currency, You will sure harvest Big Fruits
This your compound interest analysis is the bomb. I swear!

yes it's safe, stanbic ibtc is the no1 mutual fund managers in Nigeria. They have different portfolios one can invest it. Eg if you invest in the money market portfolio, they will invest your money in various money market instrument from tbills, to fixed deposit, commercial paper etc. Its a relatively safe place.

There is a thread on nairaland dedicated for that, I think its started by a guy named ernie4life. Search and read the latest.

I onetime was with fbn quest, another mutual fund manager (first bank) , they pay your profit quarterly (3months). But remember you will pay a tax fee for thier rendered services. so if they are advising a rate of 18% and thier tax fee is 1%, then know ur money was invested at 17%. with that you can compare it with tbills yield to get a better offer

There's a thread on that for nairaland, search for it and you will be updated

very wrong

plus 18% isn't really feasible. rates are not usually this high and its not thoughtful to think it will remain like this over the next 10yrs hence I reduced it to 15%

If One million @ 18% for 10 years = 5.23M, its unlikely that One million @15% for same 10 years will be 8.25M..

The calculator is actually quite easy to use if indeed the figures as shown on the print screens by Chuks are keyed in; and changed to suit your desired tenor, rate and principal..... Try it!

Good morning ma ogas, please i want aomeone to enlighten me on a particular issue bothering me. I went to first bank lastweek fridat to submit my authorization letter and i filled a form inwhich i specified that i am opting in for primary market at their own best interest rate and i received a debit alert of 500k from my account this morning which is the same amount i bidded for but wat i am curious of is that 1) The deduction is expected to be carried out on Thursday base on my small knowledge of TB 2) I am yet to be credited with the interest.. Thank you all

FBNH portal sent mr a message 3 days prior that mine would mature on 29th June. And on 29th June by 10am my account was credited. This was thursday last week. So i figure Thursdays are the days because i hv gotten another message informing me that another one will mature on the 6th this week. And when i checked it is again Thursday!

With arrangement with fbnh you can roll over on the Primary Market (where you bid or they bid for you) but you cannot roller over in the secondary market. Read your form properly. Yes why not you can reinvest your money again.

Let me tell you. A friend invested N7m for 364days at 18@pa. His discount of N1,260,000 was paid him that same day in the evening hours. The next day he reinvested the N1.2m for 363days at 18% and he earned another interest of N225k. He took care of himself with the N225k while waiting to reap N7m plus N1.2m same time next year!
So while you have a change of N225k to play around with, your investment has risen to N8,260,000!
You will say its not much but its virtually totally risk free, as YOU ARE VERY SURE OF GETTING BACK YOUR INVESTED FUNDS WITHOUT A DOUBT WHATSOEVER.

If the rates drop may be to say 16% next year. You still stand to gain as your investment will now yield N1,321,000 for 364days while you will still stand to reinvest your earned interest of N1.3m to yield N211k. So in the second year you are now looking at N8.2m plus N1.3m that will give you N9.5m. Remember aside from this you have also enjoyed a take home pocket money of N225k plus N211k.
Does it make sense to you now. The interesting thing is that you ARE COCKSURE OF GETTING YOUR MONEY BACK. The credibility is beyond the commercial banks - it is that of the Federal Rep of your country!

@Deepwater, i still believe if you go to First Bank early on Monday you might still get 345days tenor at 18.3%pa.

As you are paid your interest upfront, note that unless you choose to break it, your principal invested will only be paid back to your account on the 344th day. Now you have to decide if you can afford to leave your money with FGN for that long! Of all safe short term investments Treasury Bills at current rates are just impressive and they suit my kind of person. And if you are fortunate to put in substantial sum, you can quickly benefit from returns on reinvested interest received upfront.
It plays well with those with deep pocket.

Let us know how it went on Monday after yr auspicious visit to First Bank. Dont expect yr account officer to be happy with you though undecided
Went to First bank today and I was told it was around 17% p.a. For 365 days secondary market.Though they said the close of work today will determine as I might be debited tomorrow.I was expecting 18% but I filled the form all thesame.
I was also told they were not sure there will be bidding as they haven't recieved their quota or whatever.

I was actually a pitiful sight today. Went to first bank today to collect my certificate and inquire about my interest for the investment i made on Thursday. Only to be told that i filled in to receive my interest at the end of my tenor, 357 to be precise. Didn't know when i filled such.

Are you sure you didn't invest in fixed deposit? Better confirm from them.
