I worked with xyz company as project engineer and currently with xyz company as maintenance supervisor Vo: why are u going for ur masters Me: I want to invest in my future and also actualise my quest for research works so that I can contribute to existing knowledge as undergraduate studies only prepares students to understand and apply existing knowledge. She then handed me a blue paper of denial under section 214b. Please house, I have paid to apply alone this time because I truly want to go for studies. I would appreciate ur advice on better ways to get my hubby come with me, I can't concentrate if we are living separately. We have been married for 3yrs but have lived together for just 1yr because we both work at different states before I resigned to join him. So I don't want us to be apart again. Please help a sister.
I am very sorry for the long post but just had to table it down the way it is.

Bro, we are in this together. I am also going for my second masters degree. The first I had was in finance and now I am going for a masters in education policy. Totally different fields.
Here is what I think. It is up to you to decide what you feel is best for you, not the VO. You should really think whether another masters will truly get you where you want to be. Perhaps going for a PhD straight is the better option. In the end though, it is up to you. Whatever decision you make, follow through fiercely. You have a scholarship of $20,000. Fight for that. Apply again.
I pray that it ends up well with you bro. God bless! The bold statement is absolutely incorrect. For an international student to gain entrance into U.S, it's up to the VO to decide if the student is genuine or not. They are paid to screen using their discretion. It's not about your choice but about being able to convince the VO that you're a genuine student. Getting the visa is no one's entitlement but an opportunity. So let's not be too overconfident. Best of luck! 2 Likes |

Sorry about your delay.. Even though I want to believe that most Visa Officers already know that most student applicants granted US visa might not be coming back home even with strong ties. Her decision to go to the US with her spouse on a just a student visa didn't exactly convince the VO that she was a genuine student. |

Hmm. Technically, it would seem so. But in reality, as a person with your pride, and I hope you have some atleast, I don't care if Donald Trump is the VO. Just go there and do what you are supposed to. Don't coon it all up with all that yes ma'am no ma'am. It's a simple yes or no goddamnit. They're not doing you any favors at all. Just be yourself.
Best of luck! |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 12 by Nobody: 2:58am On Jul 27, 2017 |
On God, I would never "yes mam no mam" anyone. I mean, think about it, it's ridiculous. People school themselves for Visa interviews and then play it like a lottery ticket. You act like you are going to bomb a plane. Whatever your preconceived notions, the VO knows technically. I have my money and then I'm gonna coon and be subservient? Hell to the no, honey. Am not saying be arrogant. Just relax. Visa interviews are brisk and straight-forward. It mostly depends on you. The VOs simply react to your responses and reactions. And ofcuz smell good. Don't go there looking like trash, and don't suit up, goddamn, just be casual but classy and you'll be fine. Ultimately, relax. It's America. You might get shot for just being black, so don't overplay it. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 12 by Nobody: 3:25am On Jul 27, 2017 |
Let me add this. I'd approach a VO the way I would a bank officer opening my account for me. My point being they're there to serve you! But it's the faulty mentality of the majority that it's an opportunity. Ofcuz some would be rejected due to the quota system, and trust me, there's a quota. But eliminate the part that has to do with you by being yourself and don't overplay your hand. People don't respect that and they can see through it if you're intentionally trying to appeal to their consciousness. Once they notice that, it throws them off, and they begin to doubt your responses. "Oh, she's just telling me what I want to hear..."
So, be sensible and smart with your responses and be relaxed in your reactions. I understand why people get nervous, I do, but when you think about it, it's nothing to worry about. 4 Likes |

It was quite easy to refuse you. You've been married 3 years, no kids and your husband is leaving his job to go sit at home all day while you get a masters degree? The VO is no fool. He/She knows that you're simply going to the US to have your kids, at which point you will not leave the US. Feel free to deny that this was your plan all along. 2 Likes |

Sorry for your delay. Please apply alone and also your husband should not be in a hurry to join you. It's not a crime to have a kid in the US while in school, however you should avoid making it look too obvious. Your husband should give it some months after you must have started school before he reapplies. All the best. Glurssymum:

cmbagwu: Visa delayed this morning 26/7/2017 at windows 4 at Lagos consulate. NB: when a VO Nods his/her head, please don't be confused. It's not a sign of affirmation, it might simply means "I can hear you, continue your super story". Anyways, Transcript goes thus:
Me: Good morning VO: Good morning, and how're you? Me: I'm doing great and I'm sure you are too. VO: Oh yes I am. Pass me your i20, sevis payment and passport. Me: passed them VO; what's your highest level of education? Me: BSc in political science VO: when did you finish? Me: 2011 VO: what have you been doing? Me: I have been working with different organization. I worked with Losberger GmBH, xyz bank but presently I'm with ABC bank as a Customer Service Executive VO: So why Masters degree now? Me: when I joined ABC bank, I drew up a 10 years career plan which is to work for three years, go for masters for two years then come back home to apply the skills learnt in the next 5years before running for public office as a councilor. The VO "nods head" VO: So how did you find out about the school? Me: A colleague of mine who just came back from his study leave recommended the school to me and I also used educational websites like usnews and Princeton review to check the ratings and reviews about the school and other schools. VO: So why public affairs? Me: Public affairs is a sub field of my undergraduate which is political science and it's in line with my short term and long term goals. It will help me to learn the analytical... VO cuts me. VO: So you have a job waiting for you when you return? Me: Oh yes, I'm going for a study leave. VO: so have you travelled outside the country before? Me: No please, haven't had a reason to. VO: who will be covering for the tuition expenses? Me: My dad will sponsor and I will also assist as I have been saving up for this program. VO: Dis you get any assistantship Me: No please. VO: May I please have both statement of accounts. Me: passed them. He looks at them for a while and typed on his computer for a while then passes it back to me. VO: I don't think I will be able to approve your visa today. Me: oh, no problem, it's okay. Have a great day(not from my heart though)
Got out and went to the car park, then my car refused to start.. village people, una well done oh. Spent money I didn't budget. But it's okay. Ready to fire again. The VO just wanted to be a tough nut to crack. I will crack it up this time around. Any corrections please? So I could change formation and do the necessity. I don't think I will be able to approve your visa today and you responded by saying oh, no problem, it's okay? ![cheesy](https://www.nairaland.com/faces/cheesy.png) Sounds like you already knew that you weren't going to get the visa. Better luck next time and stop thinking about the people in the village. Always think positive and do believe that no one can't stop you from achieving success in life. |
