Osih:Whether school approves the approval is not dependent on your Visa interview. You must go for interview at least 5days to the start day on your i20 except you intend to get another i20 that will carry a latter date. It takes about 3 working days to get your passport back after interview, so you might want to do the calculation yourself. Additionally, you cant enter the US after the resumption date on your i20 except you have extension letter. Having all this in mind, you can arrive anytime so far you follow these rules |

Top of the day people. Please I have a slight challenge. I filled the DS160 form and submitted it but I'm unable to access the confirmation page and it logs me out when I try to access the confirmation page. Though I have sent a mail to them asking if my confirmation page can be retrieved coz I need it on the day of the interview. My question now is, can they help me retrieve and maybe send the confirmation page since I have successfully submitted it? |

So I got delayed on the 31st of July by the VO in window 7. The guy was just dashing blue paper like baba blue. No issue throughout biometrics and all. Was prepared which made me very confident and relaxed all through till interview proper. Vo: Goodmorning Me: Good morning , how are you? Vo: Fine. So tell me about your school? Me: My school is Morgan state university. Apart from being one of the most diversified and the biggest HBCU in Maryland, their school of community health and policy offers rigorous teaching in health sciences while integrating community based learning and offering hands on practical and experimental approach to aid student have a well balanced education. ( The Box was missing). Vo: why nursing? Me: Nurses are very compassionate and helpful people and a degree in nursing is going to give me a very wide range of skills needed to help improve and save lives while offering job security and vast opportunities to grow and progress in a challenging environment. Vo: how many schools did you apply to? Me: 3 and I went on to name them....Morgan state university, Baltimore City community college and University of Minnesota Vo: why did you apply to one community college? Me: this one caught me off guard so I said that cc was just an associate degree to get first hand knowledge so I applied to one as a back up. ( Might be where I bleeped up) Vo: did you take any test? Me: No as none was required by the school but I have an IETLS with a band score of 8.0 Vo: who is sponsoring you? Me: my maternal uncle Vo: what does he do? Me: he is a businessman into haulage of oil and gas products. Vo: unfortunately you are not qualified to blabla at this time. You can reapply....Naso e hand me blue paper. It's not as if it's a do or die but the denial thing just messes you up. I fasted , prayed and prepared and it didn't work out. ( Everything get reason wey God know) Please assist correct and fine tune my answers and what to do if I want to re-apply and how soon can i as school resumes 23rd August. Thank you. |

tolumuntari:I don't think US schools really look at grades in terms of class but in GPA, courses taken and sometimes what your final year grades are. I suggest you use WES website free of charge to convert your Nigerian GPA to 4.0 scale of US and see what your possibiliies are. With relevant experience, extracuricular/community service, watertight SOP, outstanding LORs, and excellent GRE/GMAT scores, success is but assured. |

The off-campus apartment I picked has requested that I bring a check or money order for the first month's rent before keys are handed over to me. I made security deposits sometime ago with GTB Naira Mastercard and payment was received and apartment secured. I requested that they allow me to make this payment by cash or dollar card (which I will have on me on arrival) but they said that I could use these to make subsequent payments but first payment must be by check or money order. They also gave me a mailing address should I want to mail the payment ahead of time. The challenge is that I will arrive in my destination city around 5:30pm and banks are closed at this time. What can I do to have this check or money order on me or mailed to them before arrival to avoid sleeping on the streets on my first day? ![]() |

ecoleco:You should be able to get into a mall when you arrive. Many malls/retail outlets offer Money Order as a service. All you need to do is to get a retail outlet/mall close to the apartment. https://walmart.moneygram.com/how-to-use-money-orders |

jeebz:Thanks jeebz. Thank you. ALTERNATIVELY, On arrival to JFK, I could use the window I have (2-3 hrs) till connecting to final destination to find a bank in NY and buy the money order. Just figured that out after I made the post. Having options is a good thing ![]() |

ecoleco:Or you can get someone in the US to purchase the money order on your behalf and mail it to the address. Considering your arrival time, I would really advice you to set up an alternative accommodation for the night. Most new apartment don't have utilities set up, you would probably have to negotiate with the utilities providers yourself. So it means no Water, electricity or Internet. |

I really do wonder why some people magnify POE experience like it's another visa interview. As long as you're a genuine student and not planning to run way, you have nothing to fear. I got to JFK yesterday. Joined the queue. I was so stressed out considering the heavy load I carried and the lesser layover time we had at Casablanca which was as a result of a 2hr delay in departure from Lagos. The queue was also very long and the CBPs were quite slow. CBP: Is this your first time here? Me: Yes CBP: How long do you intend to stay here? Me: 2yrs CBP: Why do you intend to stay that long? Me: "I was so tired that I just said rubbish". I'm going to study Masters programme which is for 2yrs. (who studies masters prog )CBP: can I have your sevis? Me: I thought he was referring to my sevis payment receipt. Gave it to him. CBP: No. Your sevis? Me: Now, I knew he was referring to my i20. Passed it to him. He checked it and asked me to place my fingers for scanning and that was all. My passport was stamped. Wasn't up to a minute or two sef. Also, the officers checking luggages simply asked me what I had in my box and i told them. I had already declared the important things like Egusi, Crayfish, Garri etc on the form. My luggages were not checked. I just walked outa there like it wasn't a big deal. Also, I made use of the NYCAirporter (all thanks to Lagosismyhome's info) from JFK to Laguardia airport and it was hassle free and very comfortable. I made the payment in Naija before leaving($16). By the way, I'm heading to Ohio and I came in through JFK which isn't a big deal. I wonder why people just create unnecessary panic about such instances. One more thing, if you are going with Royal Air Maroc, you're now allowed to carry your laptops with you in your carry on bags. Don't bother putting it in your checked in baggages. Also, Royal Air Maroc service was okay. The food wasn't top notch though but it was still good. |

ecoleco:2 to 3 hours is not enough to dip in and out of New York so please dont risk it..... also i dont advice on you paying for what u have not seen with your two eyes. It better to rent abnb or a hotel or something cheap for one week when u arrive to give u time to go round. See things for yourself before you pay . Also some schools have student listing where u can find house share with other students |
