Mallam! Must she state that categorically It worked for her and didn't work for other pple. Why discourage it totally?? Why should where and how I birth be a major concern for VO officers? If its wrong to use a birthing center, am sure the VO officers would have empahised it the way they always emphasis paying your total Bill. If i gave birth at home or in the car nko? I just feel as long as you pay your bills and get ready for unexpected circumstances during the birth then you are fine.

alhaja yes she has to state that during the interview because it has something to do with cost/affordability and risks involved with birthing center

Yes where and how you birth is a major concern to VO because they want to make sure that you can afford it.

Hi House,

Been asking for Info about Maryland for hospitals and prices for days now. Being forced to pay a childbirth service agency here in nigeria 150k for Hospital & Doctor's appointment for my Wife's delivery next month.

PLEASE, any body with INFO about Maryland? No need for accomodation palava. She'll be staying with her sister.

Thanks in hot anticipation of replies

Can she do Virginia. Quite close to Maryland. Had my baby in Virginia but stayed in Maryland. Clinton precisely. Distance was about 20mins drive. If she can't, then she can check put PG hospital Maryland. Not as expensive as the other Maryland hospitals. That's about the cheapest as far as Maryland is concerned.

Hi House, my wife is going to Maryland for delivery in august.
Any idea on the best hospital when considering price? Holy Cross hospital is demanding 6000 dollars initial deposit while doctor fees is 2000 dollars. Everything is already looking in the big side. Wanna know the experience of those that delivered in Maryland. Best/cheapest package.
Need help on this please. Thanks
.

This might be late cos I have not been in a while. Try shadygrove hospital. I used dr Steve yu. Now, md is very expensive. U can check Virginia. Search for hospitals in Virginia here and pick the one closer to where u stay. All the best

When asked about your job status at poe ,just tell them the truth as it is,i don't think here is anything to be afraid of there.

In my humble opinion, it's a bit of a dicey and personalized issue. Dicey and personalized in that circumcision, being procedural removal of the male foreskin, has different methods (being a procedure)...which determines the end appearance. This appearance, however may not be exactly what you may have pictured because 'end-appearance-preferences' are somewhat culturally influenced. So my advice is ensure the "outcome" looks like what you have in mind by getting info from those who've had their sons circumcised by the intending physician... Or simply do it here in Naija where the norm you likely have in mind is prevalent. Redo circumcisions aren't cute.

jordie:
Congratulations Ma.

VBAC is not an issue with the hospital, all hospitals will allow VBAC. The issue is doctors will not perform VBAC because of the requirements placed upon them such that they have to charge a lot more than a Cesarean Section and even then it is not a guarantee that your VBAC will be successful. Furthermore, it is said some doctors will say that they do offer VBAC but will convince the patient for CS in the end.

If you are searching for VBAC because you think it is less expensive than a CS, this is usually not the case unless you are at some kind of state hospital with resident doctors who may or may not have the experience for the procedure.

All hospitals DO NOT accept VBAC patients. SOme doctors do it but the hospitals they are affiliated with do not. Some don't do it at all..If you happen to be scheduled for a CS with them and you go into labour on or before the CS date then you may just VBAC but most hospitals and doctors will out rightly tell you they do not offer VBAC.

There are ICAN groups on facebook for different parts of the US. they are a movement canvasing for less CS and more vaginal delivery. they render help and assistance to mothers seeking to VBAC as well. Houston is not a VBAC friendly area. Every point , i agree with you sis

So even worse. Doctors generally don't do VBAC and if you are lucky to find a doctor, the hospital may not accept the procedure.

Exactly, best approach is to find a VBAC doctor and he/she will tell you which hospital to contact. The 3 common VBAC hospitals in HOuston are Ben Taub; Texas Children's Hospital and Womans Hospital of Texas. (The hospitals in the medical centre sha) but the fee cant be compared in any way with HNWMC, Oakbend etc,.. they are quite more expensive. TCH sent me a quote of about $9000 for hospital fee alone which i am still contesting, cos their mail stated it was hospital and doctor but when i called the lady said, it's for hospital alone. WOmans is $5102 VD and $7959 CS exclusive of Ped and Anaesthetic. lipsrsealed

Exactly, my friend wife did their son's own in the US but i didn't know the hospital he did it and they did it very wrongly,He later redo it in Abuja and he was very angry about that, because he told me that it was very painful for the little boy.
