I have chosen to defer till Spring 2018 coz school (New Mexico Highlands University) resumes on the 15th and I don't want to start explaining and speaking English at the POE.. Let me give myself time.

You could use the window to find a better school for spring. I know it's not easy going through the admission process over again but you already have all the usual requirements together. Why not give it a shot.

Did they demand for a return ticket because I was at Zenith and Stanbic at Oba Akran yesterday and I was declined mainly because of this.

Thanks.

GTBank demanded for mine. I told the lady on the counter that I want to talk to her supervisor. I talked with the supervisor and I had to argue that airlines can't have a flight schedule years ahead of time so as to book a return. I showed him my I-20 which showed my Program End Date. I got my PTA the next morning.

Hello guys.. my second visa interview is on the 17th.
I have prepared answers to some questions I think I would be asked that day. School resumes Sept. 8th and this might be my last shot for this semester.
Pls guys, help analyze, criticise and make possible corrections to it..

Why BYUI?

Of all the schools I applied to, ByuI combines mechatronics, robotics and thermal science as a specialization in mechanical engineering.
And they is an ongoing project I checked into, Super mileage dynanometer. This projects involves us building a dynanometer that mimic the load a car experiences on a road. With this, we can map out engine performance and also help optimize vehicles to avoid break down and accidents
. This is really needed in Nigeria.
In addition, students in ByuI are made to live by a honor code that ensures abstinence from alcohol, academic honesty and proper dressing and grooming. This makes me feel safe attending ByuI.

What will this course do for you?

It will help with the technical skills, experience and exposure required to work in a multinational firm like chevron or shell and also help me achieve my goals of one day owning an automotive firm.

What have you been doing since graduation?

I finished highschool in June 2014, then by September 2014, I started a computer training institute, computer gardens. I did this for three months. Then by February 2015, I decided to get practical experience then I started helping out in my dad's plumbing firm. I helped in transporting and fixing pipes, plumbing machines and tools in homes and offices.
That's what I have been doing till now.

Why did you apply to only schools in the Midwest?

Its just coincidence. I searched for schools that offered mechanical engineering with great domain for practical learning. Then I came up with these schools.

What is your study plan?

I will be going for my bachelors in mechanical engineering at ByuI. I will be required to take 120 credits in a duration of 48 months. I will be taking courses like parametric CAD, Science foundation, Introduction to engineering. When I graduate, I will return to Nigeria to work for a multinational firm, say shell or chevron.

How did you hear about the school?

I searched for schools that offered mechanical engineering with specialization in mechatronics, using usnews, Princeton review and google.

@ first bolded is okay, but you may want to add something like "This is a project I am really interested in". It sounds way more honest than the project being really needed in Nigeria. Also, if you have written the faculty about joining them on this project or you have an assistantship that would grant you that privilege, you should mention it.

@ second bolded: unnecessary.

@third bolded: Do Chevron and Shell produce vehicles? How can you talk glowingly about a vehicle related project being one of the main reasons why you picked your school, then hit them with shell or chevron when asked what the course would do for you? How can working in shell or Chevron contribute to your ultimate goal of "owning an automotive firm" someday? Oga you have to be consistent. Don't let them think you don't know what you want, even if you don't. This course would imbue you with the technical competence required by major automotive companies in Nigeria, especially the budding ones. Nigeria is trying to boost her indigenous automotive industry (Innoson and co) and the technical skills you would gain from this course would make you very desirable in your career and enable you contribute much more effectively to these industries, hence to our economy. Something along these lines.

@ fourth bolded: They don't help your case. Computer center and plumbing... nothing to show that you have had this yearning for a career in the automotive industry or an inclination for Mechanical Engineering. Eg. did you learn any Mechanical Engineering software, like ansys? autocad? any other? mention it. Did you help your dad fix cars too? Mention it instead. That is a better way to have spent your time in this context. Relevance matters here.

@ fifth bolded: an unlikely question... but if it comes up, its better to say a friend, mentor, family friend, etc (whichever applies to you) lives or lived there and told you the midwest is a great place. I am saying this because your reason is not a fact. Many schools in different regions offer the course 'with great domain for practical learning' (whatever that means), and rank higher too.

@ sixth bolded: mention serious courses, especially those that will give you skills in automation, mechatronics, automotive machines, etc. We all know that you will be doing some basic foundation stuff but come on, you are trying to impress someone here. Mention those courses that you said made the school stand out to you, not the generic ones. Also, are we still on this Shell and Chevron thing? Be consistent. Get that oyel company thingie out of your mind. You already started your case with this passionate speech about a dynanometer. That isn't exactly an oil company holy grail, you know. So don't make the VO classify you as confused, career-wise.

@ seventh bolded: your response is a bit okay, but I feel it would be stronger if you add that someone recommended it to you, like an alumnus that was your lecturer, or a current mentor, or family friend. Unless none did. If none did, well... just ensure that you pass the impression that you knew what you were looking for and you knew you found it in the schools you selected and applied to, including this BYU. This is because many schools do offer that course with a specialization in mechatronics. If you really did a search with all those sites, you must have been inundated with lots of schools that meet that particular search criterion. So its quite an inauthentic reason and many VOs would see right through it.

Another popular question in your case would be how many schools you applied to and why you decided to opt for this particular one. You should have an answer for that. Saying 'only one school' is almost always a red flag for schools like BYU that trail on global rankings if they even do appear. So I hope you applied to more than one and was offered admission by more than one or by all. If you didn't, at least say you considered so and so but decided to apply to only BYU. But then, you should be able to really defend why you picked the school. You may refer back to first bolded and seventh bolded.

My 2 cents.

I know lot of guys here in the state that comes in with a top uni visa for a Bsc program and later transfer to cc what will you say about them? we all have our opinions why we go for what we want and it's not necessary to keep following a path because everyone goes on that same path set a part that fits into your goals and go for it have a blessed day.

I'd say they are basically cheating the system and why no one relies on anything we say. We lie at visa interviews that we can afford huge tuition bills, we back it up with fake or borrowed bank accounts... then run to the states and promptly change schools.

You're studying in a CC, not because it fits into your career goal, but because its cheap. Plain and simple.

@bold I do say that's one of the reasons but not the top reason. I study in a community College in California and one of the top reasons why people study here is because it gives them a sure link to transfer to a Top School in California Such as UCLA, Berkley, e.t.c. This Top universities have an agreement with community colleges in California to accept their Students who have good grades and have engaged in some form of extra curricular activities such as joining the student body, volunteering/Community Service, sports e.t.c and the transfer rate from past years is good.

So if your career goal is studying in a Top California University, a California community college is one of the sure paths there, it isn't always about the cost.

That is a privilege reserved for US citizens, not Nigerians. That "agreement" is funded by taxpayers. You did not contribute to it and should not rely on it. You are required to be able to afford your college costs without needing to work or recourse to government funds. You would not have obtained a visa if you had indicated you were going to study at such a CC. It is therefore dishonest to lie that you're going to a top school and can afford it, only to get into the US and then take the spot of a deserving US citizen in a CC.

Take it easy, brother! No one on this earth has a perfect life. (100 percent life). That is why we are human.

There are other important reasons many folks go to CCs. One of it is immigration.

Do not sound as if things are 100 percent okay for you. Whatever difficulties anyone is having right now. All I am saying is that do not give up. Because life itself is a journey. Sometimes, the road is smooth and sometimes it is bumpy.

Probably you didn't understand my previous post. No one is relying on US Government to fund college cost,It is not a "Funded" agreement, it is a privilege given to students who attend California community colleges and display outstanding leadership skills in various areas. Fortunately the Transfer Agreement Plan works for all including International Students. More 97% admitted International students admitted here with me plan to transfer to a 4 year California University. They are from other countries, I am the only Nigerian among them I obtained my Visa with a Community College i20 not a University. I discussed this transfer option with the VO and i was issued a Visa.

You could google this, you probably would understand better.
