No, the Igbo line did not found a dynasty per se. The Igbo 'line' ( the Achadu line) only had headship of the clans in the Idah area in the pre-monarchy days of Idah.

I found it puzzling, too, that Ayegba could be ascribed an Apa origin since it was his line that ended Idah's subjection to the Jukun. But maybe he was a Jukun viceroy who rebelled against his master and established an independent kingdom for himself at Idah. I'll look for some published sources on this.

I think you've provided a more balanced approach to this issue. My father is from one of the Olumbanasaa towns, in fact, the same one you've been to. And though he originally bore an Igbo name, from all indications both he and the people from there in general, aren't ethnic Igbos. One of the posters here seems to think that because the people from these areas or their Igwe bear Igbo names, then that means they're Igbo or something like that. Actually, that doesn't prove anything. Maybe if he meets some of my relatives who have Igbo names and heavy Igbo accents, he'd rush into conclusions too. In fact, many of the Ibaji Igalas in kogi state bear Igbo names too. Does that prove they're ethnic Igbos too or their land originally belongs to the Igbos? He and the others speak as if the boundary between Anambra and Kogi was defined at the time the Igala people moved south.

Migration is not alien to us humans. It is very likely they settled in previously uninhabited areas, as can be found among cultures the world over. I see no reason to bring up this issue of "our Igbo land". They make it seem like an insignia "Igbo land" was stamped in the place. These guys just moved. They had no maps. None of us did back then. There was no way to know which was Igbo land or not. It was just land and they settled wherever they found suitable. It would only be logical to apply such ethnic appellations to land based on what we know now about these areas by simply asking the question, "who are people found there now?" Even if there were Igbo settlers before our Igala forbears came, it doesn't mean the place isn't ours or our home. It's the only real home we know. This was home to our ancestors and is now home to us and will be to our children. After all, no people have always been in a place. They had to move there at some point.

Inoma is also not part of Olumbanasaa, as well as Owelle and Ukwala. Inoma, Owelle and Ukwala are collectively referred to as Inoma Akator. The fact that these towns are not in olumbanasaa just like Nzam, isn't taken to mean they are Igbos, is it? The claim in the Wikipedia page about Nzam (whose link I also posted) that Nzam is "a unique igbo town" is also contended. You mentioned something about different "traditions" about Nzam which is obviously true. My uncle and wife (wife's Igbo) contend that the people of Nzam are not Igbo. They say they're just as Igala as the others. That in fact, many of them can't speak Igbo too but they all speak Igala and aren't really bilingual as Wikipedia claims. He says bilingualism is only on an individual scale. He is bilingual and so are my parents, but that doesn't mean bilingualism is a generic thing among us. He also grew up and schooled in our region.Mind you, this uncle of mine has never been pro-kogi but has always been pro-igbo. He prefers to tell people he's Igbo, since he speaks fluent igbo and bears Igbo names and is Anambra. He does this perhaps to avoid ambiguity. He even gave his kids Igbo names and has a problem with the word "Igala". Now, that brings me to another point. My uncle contends that we're "olu". Olu is the term for the brand of Igala we speak which is quite different from that spoken in kogi. Interestingly, many Igala people in kogi even contend that the Ibaji people among them are not Igala, and that their language is Ibaji as opposed to Igala. I don't know if this "olu" as the specific name of our language has anything to do with the "olu" in olumbanasaa, but it's worth investigating.

Wel, am from Nzam and i was born and brought up in Nzam. The issue concerning Nzam being bilingual or not. Wel, to be very honest we are bilingual, we speak both igbo and igala fluently. Anybody that was born or grew up in Nzam must be able to understand and speak both languages. The igala we speak is a mixture of ibaji igala and a small portion of igbo. With the mixture it makes it difficult for an average real igala-man nor igbo-man to understand Nzam dialect. But every Nzam person understand both languages. Nzam is mainly of igbo culture than igala culture but mainly igala language than igbo language.

NB: Talking about the revenue accruing to Imo state from crude oil, please guy go and educate yourself. There is something called derivation and it is 13%. States like Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa have far more more crude being drilled in their swamps and off-shore areas, than imo and Abia have from their on-shore wells. The quantity of offshore oil available , exceeds what can be obtained on-shore and that is why revenue from such areas differ. It is not only the amount of revenue which comes in that matters, but how wisely it is used and deployed to areas of need.

War veterans from different parts of the South­East and in the Diaspora have threatened to pull out from Nigeria if their benefits were not paid. They issued the threat at Hill Top Ngwo, near Enugu where they gathered to commemorate the May 30 anniversary of Biafran fallen heroes. This is an important message especially to Hausas and Fulanis, the intended targets of Radio Biafra’s plotted terror.

Do not be provoked, do not be tempted to retaliate. Leave it to the government and justice system to answer to harassment and murder of your people by Radio Biafra maniacs. Do not be played in the usual games that mischievous elements have played and used to provoke chaos over the years.

We have been following recent broadcasts from Nnamdi Kanu’s Radio Biafra. The terror group has been apparently joyous since the events that led to about half a dozen deaths in Onitsha on Sunday 30th August. While the details of the events that led to the deaths are being investigated, the Nigerian Navy has denied it shot directly at protesting IPOB persons. We have no idea if they were shot at, if they were injured and died as a result of a stampede when the navy fired into the air to disburse them after ‘they had overrun a police post.’ Or if certain unscrupulous Radio Biafra terrorists shot at their own people as many of their conversations have suggested they have the capacity to and as is common in world history.

The true details of Sunday the 30th will come out after the Buhari government, concludes its investigation. However what we are aware of is a plan to terrorize Nigeria in reaction to the incidents and this plan by Radio Biafra is in full effect, as several public conversations of the station have indicated.

Callers on Radio Biafra have been plotting to kill Hausas and Fulanis in Igbo states with intention to provoke a retaliation against innocent Igbos in other parts of Nigeria in hope of using this to “provoke chaos and drive Igbos home to Igbo-land.”

These people supported Goodluck Jonathan and his army chief/thief Azubuike Ihejirika during their campaigns that led to the deaths of thousands of innocent Nigerians and now they are angry that a war is being waged against corruption and terror and Nigeria is finally in recovery and they are desperate to provoke trouble. We must not let them.

I would not stress my ancestry that much when it is simple and clear - that I am a descendant of Ajida, an Igala warrior man who migrated into Anambra from Idah, Kogi state. You had no need for your identity crisis in the first place when your ancestry is this simple and easy - you are simply from Idah born and resident in Anambra state. For your relatives and those who embrace their Igala ancestry, they should mention that they are from Idah when asked where in Kogi they are from. Several young Igalas from Kogi state think all members of their ethnic group are within the confines of the state. From my own experience, only their elders seem to know there are other Igalas outside, but not much emphasis is laid on this fact. Infact, I have recently met people who have never heard about the Igala people. Well, no thanks to our ethnic diversity in Nigeria.

The Igala people can be found in Kogi, Anambra, Delta(Ebu), Enugu, and Edo states of Nigeria. Of course, the majority of Igalas are found in Kogi state and Idah in Kogi state is the ancestral home of all Igalas. I am an Igala whose hometown is located in Anambra state. The Igala people in Anambra state are found in Anambra West LGA, and are made up of the following villages/towns:

I think we Igalas in Anambra are little known largely because of our own attitude. The fault largely lies with us. We attempt to deny who we are or where we're from. We attempt to deny our very identity. Some of us claim to be Igbo while some altogether deny being from Anambra- they claim to come from Kogi state. My parents belong to the latter group.

This latter group usually bear Igala names rather than Igbo ones. Some times, they altogether dump their Igbo names and adopt new Igala ones. Others choose to transliterate their Igbo names to Igala. By doing this, they try to affirm their Igala ethnicity ( which I support and encourage BTW). But then, they go further. They say they are indigenes of Kogi state which is simply not true. What exactly they intend to achieve from this remains unclear to me. Some of these people don't even know the name of the Kogi governor. When they need infrastructure and social amenities, they cry to the Anambra government and yet they say they're from Kogi. Simply doesn't make any sense. The kogi government doesn't know them yet they foist themselves on the state. Do they expect special privileges from the kogi government? The same moribund government that has neglected true indigenes of kogi and has largely remained ineffective?

The former group, as I noted before, claim to be igbo. They deny being Igala. They love their Igbo names and would rather bear them. They would rather speak Igbo than Igala. These are the ones who make weak and frantic arguments to show they're Igbo. They hide their Igala identity or simply don't give it any thought when they say they're Igbo. Granted, I might be overgeneralizing here. Some do this just to get favours from the Igbos whilst privately affirming their Igala ethnicity.

Now, these two groups create a lot of confusion and complexity for us young folks. You see a situation where relatives or siblings are from different states of origin. One is Igbo and the other Igala. You see a person who says he's from kogi but can't precisely tell us where exactly in kogi he's from. I used to be very confused during my childhood. Here, I had my parents who say I'm Igala from kogi. There, I had my relatives who say I'm Igbo from Anambra. This was a rather peculiar dilemma. Which exactly was I? Neither painted the balanced picture. Both were opposite extremes. Thankfully, a well informed cousin provided the answer to this conundrum: we were Igalas but located in Anambra state.QED. As simple as that!

We Igalas in Anambra state must stop living in denial. We are not Igbo. We are not from kogi. Let us create this awareness, let people know who we are and where we're from. We may be a minority but we don't need to prevaricate, lie or be equivocal about it. If your parents made these mistakes, you don't need to perpetuate the same mistake for your kids. Let's correct this error and thus obviate this unnecessary dilemma for our children and generations yet unborn.
