PHCN disconnects my light almost on a monthly basis. I don't care any longer, there is a steady unofficial NEPA guy around here that reconnects for N2000.

My neighbor and I get a bill of N7000 on a monthly basis in addition with an outstanding of over N100,000 (we never knew the former tenants accumulated bills until we moved in).lol
I already told the marketer around here to explain to me how I consume N7000 knowing that in my former apartment, I barely consume N1000 on a prepaid billing.

Until that explanation is given, I will continue to reconnect ILLEGALLY. Me ehn, I won't allow some riffraff toy with my head... Since they've sworn to remain illicitly corrupt, I'll continue to face them with equal amount of corruption.
lolhahahahha u no well. D dey wey dem Oga go follow dem come ehhh, dat day na kidnap dem go kidnap u for unofficial corruption

Hello house, please I need some serious help here. PHCN has been the only issue I've got with the apartment I share. It is actually a converted mini-flat com two-bedroom. A GF and I decided to demarcate the space such that we both got our rooms. We came in as simple girls with simple gadgets.

I had just two bulbs, a TV, fridge and AC. Nothing more except some rarely used kitchen gadgets. She had small stuffs like me too. We were barely home to use these things. Soon enough, she got transferred and left her space to her young male cousin whose main belonging is a radio...no power consumption.

All was well for about three months into our stay until craaze fell on PHCN.Our bill jumped from 2k to 12k, 10k, etc. In fact, we once got 17k! I swearit, I tried to move out but couldn't get anything affordable and thought I could have it fixed. So, we've been paying 10k every month for as long as I can remember, yet, we have over 60k outstanding on the bill! This was because we were paying 3k for about six months before deciding to up amount after realizing the value kept increasing.

The unthinkable happened today when I got home to see a disconnection ticket even after paying 10k about 2 weeks ago!Now I'm thinking of just writing them to stop our billing, we are no longer interested. Cos I am so not gonna pay, will probably partially move back home.

What do you think? We have gone to their Shomolu customer care tire, spoken to the marketing manager here... nothing. They came for load assessment yet nothing. E don tire me. What should we do? Our small space gets charged same amount the bigger flats get...yet we no get anything o. We asked for prepaid meter, yet nothing.

My advice.....ENJOY UR LOVING COUNTRY.....NIGERIA IS A BABY STILL GROWING CONTRIBUTE TO HER GROWTH NIGERIA @57 grin grin grin

Imagine! Hope you know your bill will continue to read even while disconnected. That's why I'm thinking of writing them to discontinue billings. In our case here, we get billed same figure with the other big flats.
That is my biggest surprise. Disconnect you n still bring bills on monthly basic... Please, do you think dat the formal written can stop the billing after disconnection because this PHCN guys are crazies.

Re: Help With PHCN Wahala by gidig(m): 12:26pm On Sep 29, 2017
You have to resolve this quickly before it becomes a major problem with them. What probably happened is that the turn your bill into a commercial one in order to get more money from you. A residential bill is usually not that high. You need to write an official letter to your disco office. If it is Eko Distribution, address a letter to the customer care and have it delivered there. Then, report to the Nieggrain electricity distribution company 1 Odunlami Street, Lagos. They will also get copies of letters if the disco does not attend to the matter after 15 working days.
it is tedious process bt follow through with it and don't fall into their debt trap. They will try to tell you be paying something off the bill ut the whole bill is still on you. They usually give the marketers target and in order to meet their target, they give arbitrary bill estimates to people. That is why they have been foot-dragging about giving everyone pre-paid meters.

I only came here to see how one can contest unfair bills, but all I am seeing so far is people whining, we need solution not all this complain
same thing happened to the house where I stay but try checking your previous reading and the recent reading if the difference between the two is more than 100 which gives the unit consumed then it would definitely increase your vat hence the bogus billings but I would advise you see the district business unit visit the manager directly and take your bills along to explain to him/her

You Nigerians don't like to pay your dues.. If you don't have constant power supply, you complain. You have now, it's too expensive you say... 12k in a month for stable power supply or even 6 hrs in a day is embarrassingly cheap. You might need to check cost of gas or coal, coupled with transmission problems and theft along the lines before you come here to complain about bills

So I stopped paying and confided in a friend (mischievous fellow)..

He tied a red cloth and some strange looking stuffs on the nepa pole.

It's been 8 months now since I last saw an aedc staff near my house.

Nb. My friend is no longer mischievous but you can try his method.. At your own risk

This discos are just open fraudsters, the meter reading they always printed on my bill is always higher than the actual meter reading, I have complained to their customer service and I am tired of it, every month is estimated bill while I have meter. in fact I am looking for means to get the prepaid meter, these people are just wicked

@ Op, please invite them to disconnect and stop billing! That's is the only way out.

This is how to contest the bill, write a well articulated letter to the MD and contest the bill.

If after two months, no action, write a letter to NERC covering your area and attach acknowledged copy of the earlier letters, 4 copies.

If that doesn't work too, the last option is court.

in my own case, they have been giving estimated cra.zy bills for months and I managed to get a prepaid meter when I realized paying phcn bills may drive me into untimely recession. the phcn staff brought the meter and removed the card and since about six month ago he has not brought the card. although he never brought their evil bills as well but I'm thinking maybe this man got the meter through the back door hence the reason for the delay... has anybody experienced such?

Re: Help With PHCN Wahala by Nobody: 12:32pm On Sep 29, 2017
It's your right to contest your electricity bills pursuant to the provisions of NERC Act 2005. Cc: NERC FORUM at ikeja, IKDC hq ikeja, NERC Abuja and the Consumer protection council.
If unsatisfied, sue them for breach of their contractual obligations after 90days.
Add NERC, CPC as defendants to the suit.

They will avoid your house like shit. We keep suffering and smiling because we don't know our rights, or we know but are too lookworm or lackadaisical to act.
Hence the suffering and smiling cycle continues.

Mr Man, if you don't know what to type then better don't. How can you say 12k in a month for stable power supply or even 6 hrs in a day is embarrassingly cheap? I use prepaid meter and we have a minimum of 14 hrs a day of light and I average 5k every 2 months and I live in a 2 bedroom flat with all the regular electronics

Why the insult ?

Oh sorry that wasn't an insult. When someone exhibits fool-like behaviour, its not an insult to describe him accordingly.

So you did exhibit a very foolish behavior. Im not sorry if ure offended

Lol this comment got me cracking grin lol when I was in Ibadan my flat mate kept reconnecting that it became a regular routine, they cut we reconnect, since they kept bringing over 6000 to a flat by corp members yet we don't even have fridge or fan and our mates using prepaid are spending 500 per month. Kai Naija I tire.

please this topic interests me as I am in the same condition and I know lots of people facing this too.
In my case, they refuse to read the meter, giving us estimated bills of 17k etc and even when we pay the money it's not reflected and the bills keep accumulating. we have complained and written lots of letters attaching all our receipts of payments all to no avail.
whenever they come around they cut the light despite our explanations. Apparently the disconnection team is not same as the billing team. it's quite discouraging.

I think this should be moved to front page so that people who have solutions to this misdemeanor can bring it up.

I know there is a consumer protection agency but I don't know if it is functional.

I really can't wait for competition in the power sector. PHCN would definitely go the way of NITEL.
Chai I just weep for this godamn country, nothing seems to work anymore. Fraud everywhere.
