dipoolowoo: This is good news for the stock market...The xmas party is finally over for the banks. The impact of the drop in rates will reflect on most banks Q3 and year end results. On a broader scale, it's a sign of gradual return of confidence in the economy by foreign investors. However, more work is still required on the fiscal side through structural reforms, fiscal discipline, removal of pointless red tape and administrative challenges prevailing in most government agencies and parastatals, increased spending on growth-induced sectors, and mitigation of country risk...From inception of this administration, monetary tools have been used more in stimulating the economy (though with few gaps) than fiscal measures. These measures to pull out the economy out of contraction have been less desirable. |
