Hello LagosNIV and AbujaNIV
I need your advice on something. I asked about this once and was given an answer but i really want to be sure so i don't make a silly mistake. I'm preparing for my visa interview towards the spring semester but I have somethings to contend with. I might find it a little difficult to resume in January due to some reasons. I know it's possible to differ from Fall semester to Spring semester but I want to know if it's possible to do the same from Spring to Fall semester. And if I'm given a student visa , will I still be able to use it for the fall semester I'm differing to or I'll need another visa interview since there is a difference of 7 months between those semesters. I'll be expecting your reply, thanks.

Hello BenNash -

Yes. You'll need a new I-20 to enter the US, but the visa would still be valid.

Good day VO

I applied for I class visa in December 2015 to cover an event in the state, but was denied, I was a journalist then and worked for a popular print media, my two attempt at visa was unsuccessful, I assumed it was due to the fact that I have Presbycusis – Loss of hearing that gradually occurs because of changes in the inner or middle ear in individuals, this made ma ask the VO to repeat them selves often before I could hear them well,(a situation I guess they are not pleased with) I have since resigned from the media company and have joined my dad firm, he is sending me for MBA in the United States to get trained so he can offer me a major position in the management team of one of his companies , three schools have admitted me and I'm yet to make final decision on which to attend, my question however Is "how do I politely tell VO that I have presbycusis? Is there a place in DS 160 that I can indicate this? It's not as if I dint hear at all but one have have to speak slowly with clarity (not necessarily loudly) for me to hear, please respond, I hope I don't get deprived of this great opportunity
Thanks

Hello orimahspence -

As I posted in response to this question from you in the other thread, we want to adjudicate visa applications based on the applicant's qualifications for the visa, we don't want someone who is otherwise qualified to miss out on the opportunity to travel to the US because they can't hear the questions. If you have difficulty hearing, please mention that to us at the start of the interview. We have a few options, from as simple as turning up the volume on our microphone to going into a privacy booth with a door that shuts to keep out the noise of other interviews, and we will be happy to make reasonable accommodations to enable you to communicate effectively with us.

This advice applies to anyone who has any disability which may make it difficult to participate in the interview. Let us know about the issue, and we will do our best to make a reasonable accommodation to compensate for the disability.

Regards,

LagosNIV

Hello franstony2002 -

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking here, so I'll address a few related answers. First, the validity of the visa doesn't establish how long you are allowed to stay in the US. The validity of the visa is the time period in which you can request entry to the US at a POE. The time period you are permitted to stay in the US is set by the officer who interviews you at the POE. For most tourists, this is 6 months. For most students, this is for as long as they are enrolled in the program. Even if you only have a week of validity on a visa when you enter the US, if you are granted a 6 month stay, it doesn't matter if the validity of the visa has expired, you may stay for that 6 months. If you stay beyond the time allowed by the POE, then you may be ineligible for a visa in the future. I hope this answers your question.

Hello LagosNIV,

Good evening. I have been a silent follower of this thread and first want to say thank you for assisting many people here with their questions. I have an issue that has been bothering me. Few months back I had my F1 visa interview which an agent helped me to prepare for. My visa was originally granted but later denied few weeks after because the visa officer discovered that the bank statement, which the agent gave to me, was a fake one. The embassy returned my passport to me blank.

In my excitement and out of trust I trusted the agent but he spoiled my dreams of studying abroad and I have since learnt my lessons not to use an agent again. The embassy did not tell me verbally or give me anything in writing saying that I have been denied permanently/subject to lifetime ineligibility. Am I possibly subject to lifetime ineligibility? Please what are my chances of reapplying again, this time by myself? If possible, how soon can I file for a waiver?

Thank you sir/ma.
Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening by Nobody: 8:24pm On Oct 22, 2017
Hello odogwucj -

You should have gotten a letter back with your passport letting you know what section of the Immigration and Naturalization Act your application was refused under. If it was section 214b, it is not a lifetime ineligibility. If it was another section, it may be. We do not comment on individual applicants' chances on this forum. If you are subject to a lifetime ineligibility, the way to apply for a waiver begins with applying for a new visa. If you meet the requirements of 214b the officer who interview you will then explain the waiver process, and can apply for the waiver for you.

Regards,

LagosNIV

Hello LagosNIV,

Please, I need your help urgently.

I made a mistake while creating an account on the cgifederal website. I omitted my surname which is supposed to be my last name. I've opened a 'Provide Feedback' form and sent an email to support-nigeria@ustraveldocs.com for the name change, still no reply. I even called the customer care line this morning, but the automated machine was just speaking to me and didn't put me through to a representative. I need to book an appointment as soon as possible.

Or Can I go ahead and book the appointment and my surname will reflect after an admin attend to it?

Hello LagosNIV,

I applied for F-1 visa once in 2013 and twice in 2014 and was denied under 214b,was going to do my Msc then, I haven't return since then but recently my dad who was given a visa in 2009 and travelled and stayed for 10days and returned and never traveled till it expired said we should both travel for business and visit, so my question is that can we both apply as a family considering we are both adults and I have since been working.

Thanks

Hello bobmar. I've never heard of someone forgetting their last name. If you're unable to get it corrected through customer service, the visa officer can amend your file at the interview window.

Sorry, not that I forgot. I put my 'other name' in the 'Last Name' field instead of 'surname'. I really messed up in this part.

Yet to hear back from 'support' after sending the data page of my passport.

You think I should still go ahead and book an appointment?

Hello franstony2002. Implications for misuse of a visa are described here, notably in the "Unlawful Presence" section:

Dear V.O,

Compliments of the day to you. Please I am making this enquiry for a friend. He wants to apply for a b1/b2 visa but says the passport office made a mistake on his passport that they wrote February as his month of birth instead of march. I have adviced him to go back and correct it but he is reluctant because according to him, it will cost him about N68,000 to N90,000.

Please could you confirm if he should go make the correction despite the cost?

I have a valid visitor's visa. Now we're trying to relocate. He can stay legally in the US but I can't. How do we go about it pls? Thanks

LagosNIV, AbujaNIV and VisaOfficer Sirs, we need use some help here. A cousin of mine has a USC hubby resident and working in the US but comes to Nigeria annually/bi-annually. They have been married a few years and are blessed with three kids, all US Citizens too courtesy of their dad. She actually wants to visit the US with her kids soon, but has information that she has to get filed for as a standard for you guys.
The issue here is that herself and hubby discussed over two years now that there isn't an urgent need for her to be filed for on two major grounds, the particular one being she's not ready to relocate and go start life afresh in the US with uncertainties accompanying despite all the comfort she enjoys here in Nigeria where we live family and almost communal life, the other being even if she files and gets approved, she can't sustain the stress of travelling to the US every 6-12 months just to safeguard the issued green card ensuring it's not withdrawn if she fails to turn up in the US as expected of greencard holders.
She really doesn't want to relocate, if she wants that, that could be fixed in just a few months, the sacrifice following are enormous for her and discourages her and for this reason she hasn't been filed for these past few years.
Now, she prefers an opportunity to be visiting the US with her kids at her convenience and not out of some sort of semi-compulsion by reason of being a greencard holder. Can the B1/B2 visa then be appropriate and issuable to her type for any reason or she must unwillingly and frustratingly go through the immigrant visa process just to keep the line open for US holidays with her kids whenever she has to, or parents and the kids should just forget about ever visiting the US in company of their mum till she she's willing to relocate and go through the immigrant visa process? Definitely not convenient for her in any way. Thanks in anticipation of your response.
Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening by Nobody: 11:08pm On Oct 25, 2017
Visas can be refused for applying with a passport that contains an identity to which you do not have a legal claim. This can result in a lifetime ineligibility for a US visa. I would encourage your friend to get the passport corrected prior to applying for a US visa.

To relocate permanently to the US you will need an immigrant visa. One of the ways you could obtain that would be by having your husband file a petition on your behalf. For more detail on that process please ask your questions in the thread for US Immigrant Visas.
