You actually put Covenant University that just started engineering 3 years ago and still has no Masters or PHD in engineering. I have a feeling you graduated from Covenant university and that would explain your dumb choice of putting Covenant university on this list.

Covenant university started engineering from its inception. It was accredited and approved by the NUC. They have several graduates in Msc and PHD. Shame!!! On your school, they produced a bloke brain

No need to check.....

Two of my consins are presently studying engineering in covenant University.

It might be on their website. Thy have not started cos NUC hav not given them go ahead beside it has been too long thy introduced Engineering in Covenant.

Apparently, most universities in Nigeria aren't worth the stress of aquiring a B.sc, B.tech or B.eng from. However, some of these schools have beamed rays of hope that maybe someday, we may compete favourably with the rest of the world as regards technology. These schools include:

1. University of Lagos

2. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife

3. University of Nigeria, Nnsuka

4. University of Ibadan, Ibadan

5. Covenant University, Ota

6. Federal University of Technology, Akure

7. University of Benin, Benin

8. Federal University of Technology, Owerri

9. Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria

10. University of Ilorin, Ilorin

Feel free to object constructively......what about the first technical university in west Africa.... TECH-UI....Technical university ibadan

No, it isn't. The scope of engineering is broad and programming isn't an integral part of it, although, its basic knowledge may be useful.
things are changing... Stop being myopic...programming is slowly and steadily becoming an integral part of the profession.. Am a civil engineer but you can't guess how much programming I have come to know and apply..prof charlse uko the ex vp of coren was learning c++ at over 60 years of age when he got back from one of his visits to the US back then..wish I could tell u in details how fast the profession is changing nd you better be ready coz one day, solving complex maths will require some form programming skills for speed and efficiency and you better be ready...even being proficient with excel requires a level of coding

I don't want to believe you see matlab, auto cad, proteus, mutism, etc as programming but rather as programmed softwares by computer scientists to ease life for engineers. Your response is vague so if I've not clarified your question, feel free to ask again bro.
oh he doesn't know nd I think this is a big issue in nigeria , knowledge... Did you know you can create your own plugins and attach them to softwares like auto cad to suit your work flow and specifications... Matlab is programming in a way, there's a level in which you use AC and revit were some knowledge of VB is required...common man what exactly are we doing as engineers ...? I urge every engineer to learn to code

I don't disagree over the mumu die comment cos you have a point there.
But practicals is based on theories. You can't claim to be grounded practically without being theoretically sound, otherwise you're half baked.

The idea was for university students and graduates to be able to design what they learn but lack of practical exposure makes them half baked.

The point is simple, engineering is not computer science. I've learnt C++ myself and still learning too but I know too well that except I'm willing to take over completely the job of a computer scientists, I wouldn't be needing programming as much, that doesn't mean I wouldn't need programmed softwares in any way. The knowledge is important but definitely not the basic essence of engineering. Lovers of knowledge may however decide to pick one or more programming skills, it’s harmless doing so.

How has programming become a must - do task in your own profession today, engineer?

You are not being truthful to yourself. What exactly did you learn in the so called Ogwashuku poly? An institution I'm sure wouldn't even be able to boast of adequate laboratories and constant power supply for practicals. I'm not sure how terrible UNIBEN is but I have friends their and with the available information I have,UNIBEN is stilling striving to make waves than many other institutions.

BTW, I completed an ND programme in one of the foremost federal government owned polytechnics and I know the polytechnic curriculum is lagging far behind.

The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology describes the difference between engineering and engineering technology as: "Engineering and technology are separate, but intimately related professions. Here are some of the ways they differ:

Engineering undergraduate programs include more mathematics work and higher level mathematics than technology programs.
Engineering undergraduate programs often focus on theory, while technology programs usually focus on application.
Once they enter the workforce, engineering graduates typically spend their time planning, while engineering technology graduates spend their time making plans work.
At ABET, engineering and engineering technology programs are evaluated and accredited by two separate accreditation commissions using two separate sets of accreditation criteria.
Graduates from engineering programs are called engineers, while graduates of technology programs are often called technologists.
Graduates from engineering technology programs are often hired as engineers.

lol, baba prtical and theory are two different things, theories dont produce practical, iots just for easier understanding,sum1 without theoritical knowledeg can beat some with theoretical knowledge when it comes to actual creation of items,.being more pratical increase your creativity, nigerian theories are based for exams,i beat my chest no nigerian graduate can invent anitin, sorry to say,we dont jave federal universities in 9ja,its were u go just to waste away time and get certificate dat we have, den dey give u gpa based on ow well u could cram what u were tot,Nigerian inventors will not come from Nigerian universities,u wil be schocked ,dey might actually be dropouts or not even studying anitin related to engineering..

My question is: Why mention them as top when we know they are all shallow?

Despite all the thousands of engineering graduates these schools has produced, 100% of their electric device are either from China or Japan. So what makes them worthy of being associated with the word top?

You see! You are mixing things up! That is manufacturing and it involves more than engineering!

Am an old man. An Electrical Engineer by training. Some children not born when i graduated are now undergraduates.

As i said earlier, universities have 2 functions. One is to educate and the other is research. Both need lots of funds. Now, most Nigerian universities don't do much research, that doesn't mean they failed in educating. Of course they can be better, doesn't mean they failed. How do we know? Nigerian graduates have gone all over the world to do us proud. And i don't mean our elite graduates. Go all over the world and you will see Nigerian doctors and other professionals that were trained in Nigeria.
When we focus on engineering, go to manufacturing companies, oil and gas industry, anywhere engineers work. Nigerian engineers do the work and do it well. The fact that we are import dependent is not because our engineers are poor. Is anybody bringing the finance to set up the company? is it profitable to produce those things in Nigeria? Will Nigerians chose made in Nigeria products over imported ones?

Our Universities still do good quality research. Another problem is commercializing those research. We have some good lecturers that do good quality research.
