aribisala0:That's illiterate economics and I'm not even an economist and know nothing about it beyond secondary school work. ![]() Price inflation of minerals is not even close to an accurate measure of general commodity inflation or the comparative cost of living. Crude oil crashed from as high as $145 a barrel in 2008 to as low as $27 a barrel in early 2016. That doesn't in anyway reflect any trends in living costs, monetary value and general commodity price trends. |

Obi1kenobi:There is no one thing that is an accurate measure of inflation. It there were none would be bette than gold Illiterate ecconomics? You really are a funny dude. Google; Relationship between gold and CPI . Anyway That is not the point here I take it your fixation with that is acceptance of the nub of the matter. Whatever the value of £20 it was an ex gratia payment That money in bank accounts were not touched at all Funny how you are unable to reacct to the Supreme Court judgment of Enweozor V CBN |

aribisala0:The average price of a barrel of oil in 1970 was $3.39 in 1970. Not certain of the exchange rate as per dollar to Pound but let's just estimate....Igbos were settled after the war with 6-7 barrels of crude oil.... https://inflationdata.com/Inflation/Inflation_Rate/Historical_Oil_Prices_Table.asp Smh |
| Re: BIAFRA TWENTY POUND LIE BUSTED by aribisala0(op): 11:26am On Nov 04, 2017 |
joeyfire:Igbos were not "settled" .No one owed them anything so your starting point is wrong. Has anyone settledthe victims of Boko Haram? Are Igbos better than they? They are victims while Igbos were investors in Biafra |
| Re: BIAFRA TWENTY POUND LIE BUSTED by aribisala0(op): 11:38am On Nov 04, 2017 |
The starting point is that The Nigerian pound was eventually changed into Naira and at inception it was changed for 2 Naira This was on 1 January 1973 so keep that at the back of your mind. Inflation is calculated every year based on CPI (this is not perfect) and is added up year on year to compute historical values. There are literally dozens of INFLATION CALCULATORS online pick your choice and use any of the major currencies to get an idea of what £20 in 1970 would be worth. Now back to topic ENWEOZOR v CBN Supreme Court of Nigeria |

aribisala0:I know Nigeria is a bitter, cold, inhumane place where life means little but YES Igbos deserved compensation. The ECOWAS court has today vindicated this fact. Settled is even a nice statement. They were robbed. If I come to your house, burn all your property and take N1m from you. Turn around and give you 2k is that robbery or charity? Wrong analogy. Boko Haram's origins are from Islamic extremism. A totally unprovoked home grown religious uprising that has murdered tens of thousands...Yet they have a whole frigging commission designated to funnel billions every year to them. Boko haram killers and child rapists are now on an allowance...Let that permeate |

joeyfire:Well I have not said they do or do not deserve compensation. They are not MORE deserving of compensation than the people of the NE, See who is talking about cold and inhumane. Are the victims of Boko Haram the same as Boko Haram. ?? Hypocrite Compensation for what? We must be clear.Compensation for killings in the north cannot be linked to £20 they are different issues. The right payment muust be made to the right victims The fact is the £20 was not compensation if it was it would be taken into the calculation. It was a purely goodwill payment that did not remove the right to seek compensation for those who are entitled .But we must not let emotionality becloud our ability to correctly compartmentalize issues. The issue here is about whether peoples money was forcefully taken. It was not . Did they deserve to be allowed to exchange the old Nigerian notes for the new ones?.Thaat can be debated separately and I encourage such debate because we can examine all the pros and cons The ECOWAS judgment is not about £20 . Yes they were robbed. BY OJUKWU whom they gave their Nigerian Pounds to. What did he do with it?? |

Nzeogu was a home grown extremist who murdered in cold blood the leaders of other people and his folk carried on taunting and mocking leading to their murder. The Nigerian government failed t protect the Igbo people in the North as is their duty and therefore there is a Civil Tort opportunity for victims just like te victms of Boko Haram This has nothing to do with the £20 issue |

aribisala0:What is the ECOWAS judgment about then? So it is after I dismantled your primary school narrative you now cry that Boko haram are different from their victims you deserve pity honestlyWhile the world is signalling to this country that its past is ugly and wicked as the 88 billion award has shown the likes of you are opening futile threads to convince your type that the cost of 40 loaves of bread are good recompense for stealing and destroying the wealth of a nation valued in billions ![]() |

| Re: BIAFRA TWENTY POUND LIE BUSTED by aribisala0(op): 4:18pm On Nov 04, 2017 |
joeyfire:All of thi is emotional twaddle this thread is about £20 Was £20 given as exchange for money held in bank accounts You can try as much as you like to divert or distract but it WILL NOT work The £20 payment was an ex gratia payment There never was a time when money in people's bank accounts was appopriated by the Nigerian government. You did not address the issue of Enweozor v CBN in the Supreme court Instead you are talking rubbish The Ecowas judgment is to " 9 victims" of the war did it name Igbos? It talked about removing mines and bombs You are not educated at all There were victims on both sides who are all entitled to relief whether or not there is a court judgment It has nothing to do with £20 issue The moment you start going away from this it shows you have lost the argument Stick to the £20 issue |

obailala:My father in law's father also lost his entire wealth. But he lost it in the east. He withdrew everything he had from the banks in Lagos and returned to the east with it. Shortly before the war ended, he lost it while running away when Owerri fell. The poor man died soon afterwards. If he had survived he would have also collected 20 pounds. Even though he had taken everything he had when he left for Biafra. |

The ECOWAS Court has authoritatively silenced the wicked little pipsqueaks like you and rendered your opinion a shitty backward waste of time . N88 Billion (a conservative figure in my opinion) is what they awarded gbagam! Now go hang ![]() |

The OP is seriously fantasizing about busting a non existent myth . If I were him Ill be more concerned about how a people bounced back with just 20pounds in 50 years to overtake the who never went to war. You never provided any newspaper evidence to support your own claim but demands for an evidence from anyone that wants to counter your fantasy. It's already established that there was a sharing of 20pounds, you are now running around on whether it was an exchange for cash of For bank Account. Dear OP can you provide a newspaper report that shows that all those who had a bank Account in Nigeria as stated by Awolowo got their exact money back? |

Nonsense... This people and lies eh.. Trying to distort history. OP if the Igbo's were so bad and evil and nothing good comes from them and they started the war and killed themselves to blame nigeria and every other useless lies you guys propagate, why is nigeria afraid to teach it's own history to its young? Oh I forgot... It's the Igbo's that are forcing the government from teaching history in schools. You're pathetic... May your hatred for igbos not lead you to your early grave. |

PHIPEX:Leave those things. They sleep, dream, wake and breath igbos. Seriously I wonder what nigeria would be without igbos. I wonder which tribe, their hate for, would be their rallying point. |

joeyfire:They did not grant that. It was an out of court settlement in the spirit of reconciliation and a lot of that relates to clearing of unexploded mines and bombs as well as those who suffered from those ordnances after the war. The Nigerian government has a duty to reove bombs and related weapons just like they will in the NE zone when peace returns. If a child is playing and coes across a grenade and is killed then they can sue. That is the sort of thing the ECOWAS case was about. That is why even BENUE STATE is one of the Beneficiaries of that money You better familiarize yourself with what the money is for It is a Tort and not a judgment on the war. What you do not understand is the Nigerian state inherits total responsibility because Biafra did not succeed. If it had then they would have shared joint responsibility. The claim is for very specific matters Crucially it has no relationship to £20 issue |

PoolBuilder:Anyone with common sense would have known that the plaintiff was destined to lose the case. The FG owed him nothing. 20pounds was big enough to stock a shop with more than 20 cartons of tinned milk in 1970. Igbos were fortunate that Awolowo was the finance minister. Had the finance minister been from the north they would have gotten NOTHING! |

whatofyou:This is about correcting distorted history, misinformation and disinformation by Igbo propagandists about the 20 pounds policy and the sincerity of Awolowo. |
