Millions of unmarried couples who live together could be unaware of their rights if the relationship breaks down, a family law group has warned.

1. If one cohabiting partner dies without leaving a will, the surviving partner will not automatically inherit anything - unless the couple jointly own property. A married partner would inherit all or some of the estate

2. An unmarried partner who stays at home to care for children cannot make any claims in their own right for property, maintenance or pension-sharing

3. Cohabiting partners cannot access their partner's bank account if they die - whereas married couples may be allowed to withdraw the balance providing the amount is small

4. An unmarried couple can separate without going to court, but married couples need to go to a court and get divorced to end the marriage formally

5. Cohabiting couples are not legally obliged to support each other financially, but married partners have a legal duty to support each other

6. If you are the unmarried partner of a tenant, you have no rights to stay in the accommodation if you are asked to leave - but each married partner has the right to live in the "matrimonial home"

I think i wud prefer cohabitation for at least a year before i will decide if i wanna settle down...

As we all can see, how many marriages are being wrecked each day all over the globe? And going thru divorce are even much worse than anyone cud imagine...

Hmmmm na wa oooo see question... Shaybebaby come and talk your own oogringrin
Well base on what I know! Marriage Is Unambiguous Unlike cohabitation, marriage is unambiguous. In fact, in most cases cohabitation is deliberately in its ambiguity. “When a man and woman begin sleeping together and perhaps move in together, the rest of us are left guessing as to what exactly is the basis of their relationship. Clearly they have agreed to sleep together, as otherwise it would be rape. But what have they promised one another, if anything? On what basis or shared understanding are they together?” The answers will vary from couple to couple and may range from a very minimal level of commitment to a very significant one. But there always remains a measure of uncertainty. Often each of the partners will have different levels of commitment or expectation—one thinking that moving in together marks the beginning of something permanent while the other regards it as a mere trial period. All the while the rest of us are uncertain how to relate to them as they live together and if and when they dissolve their relationship. The relational ambiguity is especially apparent when one of them dies. “Who is the next of kin? With whom should we grieve most deeply? The parents, or the live-in partner?” Marriage helpfully resolves this lack of clarity.
