Im not a stranger in 9ja, I do biz in PHC full time hence I relocated my family there.I feel the climate, I generate forex frm teh Uk go to china and Import, so Im no stranger to 9ja economics.fact of teh matter is same, yu need MONEY, the reason your deal fell fru was lack of money ,greas the right bearings watch you money grow LONG!

If u want to come and ure ready just come with a good plan and u'll be fine. Don't let the nay sayers discourage u, yeah mAny are leaving and many are coming all depends on wat u want to achieve. I know guys dat came in and hv started smtn and moving well. The telecoms industry here is doing well so ur chances are good interms of a job. U will probably learn a thing or two and if u decide to go back afterwards dats fine.

I plan on coming back with about 30000 USD and getting myself land/property to my name, complete NYSC, see what the job market is like as well as concurrently starting a one or two provisions stores. Slowly expand on that, with the end goal to become a distributor at the national level.

i'd do as you have said. we learn everyday and no one knows it all. i have had friends pull deals on petrol station sales and most of them have been well over 80m in costs. there was one in ikoyi that was advertised for something around a billion naira(if my memory serves me right) and as such,it's only logical that i would scuff at anyone talking about building a gas station for 10m.

Visit, look around, make your findings yourself and don't tell a soul u are coming back to relocate.

Secondly ignore all the negative comments you see on this thread, only people who have left nigeria for years and see there is hardly anything a developed country can offer, only a developing country can provide the means by which ones investment can grow without endless Taxes,bills, social security contributions, medical insurance e.t.c

You have done well for yourself by saving up to 30k to invest in Nigeria and trust me with the right planning you would not go wrong, there are people living in Lagos who have the equivalent of 30k dollars in naira and they are not in politics or ever travelled to the US so how come they have 30k dollars in thier account.

So please ignore anyone who discrouages from coming back to invest in a country that would give you a Massive yield for your investment. It's better to be a king in your country than a mouse in someone else.

So back to the information you really need, your safe bet in Nigeria right now which can generate up to 50% yield is these 3 things : 1.education 2. Real estate 3. Petrol/filling station ...your capital of 30 k dollars is more than enough to do this ...

So like I said above in less than a year your business would have paid back it's 30k investment, the only serious setbacks of doing business in Nigeria is finding the right type of people to get you started not the cost of fuel or police brutality or lack of electricity or any of the things you see on twitter or cnn...

The full scenario of Nigeria is not what you see online, there are incredible opportunities here you would never see online cos it's very hard to describe the opportunities online to anyone ...
I don't think I can say everything on here since I moved back to Nigeria but first things first you would need to incorporate a Nigerian company. I am a Nigerian lawyer so I can help you with that as fast as you can say the word a certificate of incorporation. Thereafter we would have to help you with a domicillary account so your money can be moved across continents with ease .. In addition I could also help you with a certificate of capital importation ( this certficate allows you to transfer your current at the Cbn rate )

After this then your business or company is ready for any actual real investment possible ...also if you do not mind I have 3 detailed business proposals on the 3 ideal business I listed above which is 1. Building a small scale school (education ) 2 . Real estate (buying land or a building the finished product at a high margin house flipping it's called or 3. A petrol / filling station ( petrol stations in Nigeria make up to 400,000 naira in a day ( I have statistics to back this up ) so imagine building a petrol station with 30k dollars and making up to 1k dollars in sales in a day ...


In less than a month after you start operating you would thank God for leaving the US and coming to invest in Nigeria and not missing out on the Nigerians on twitter or fb ...cos real business is not on twitter or fb...it's here in Nigeria in particular when you get the right type of people to help you ....

My neighbor came from US, to relocate back to nija. Initially it was fun for him, until he couldn't take it anymore. Most times when I walk down the street heading back home, I sight him smoking his lungs out like a chimney, with whisky in one hand. Every blessed day

One day I heared him talking to another neighbor as he was smoking that he's tired of this gaddamed country and he's running broke, he wants to sell his building and get the fucvk out of here. He can't take it anymore and how much will my 2nd neighbor buy his building of four flats, spacious o.
At the end, I heard he sold the four blocks of flat for N15million inside illupeju.

I was like WTF!

The guy received his alert, called all the tenants in the other flats that he had sold everything and hes getting out of here. He can't take it anymore. Lol
That's how he left. He even dashed his furnitures, TV and all, to the buyer.
And left.
The new landlord, gave everyone quit notice and the end.. He's not back till date.
Nija is fucvked up.

Another one came. From UK, he built a massive house in ikorodu. He like bragging he has money and he loves spending on his friends, that's how thieves came one faithful day he came back from abroad trips. Cause he loves travelling to and fro every 3months.

So a close family friend gave a tip off to thieves, the day he arrived nija as usual.

Come and see beating, and later took his 10000pounds ,they ran away and left him bloodied. My dear, when he reported the case to police. Police caught one of the thieves. That one then confessed it was his family friend wife! A high profile family in the society !

He was so disappointed. He couldn't get his money back. They shared it amongst themselves and the other thieves yet to be caught.
Police advised him to let go of the matter Orelse if he pursue the case and place the wife of his friend in jail with the thief they caught, his life will be in extreme danger. He won't even live to judge the case in court.

That's how he left Nigeria angrily and sever ties with people here. Vowing never tk come back.

You are contradicting yourself. You said lands are priced around N500k along Ibadan expressway. Where can one get N500k land in a prime location?
Relocating to Nigeria is a gradual process. Out of the $30k he saved will be his living expenses, family matters and other miscellaneous expenses. He can start working on his plan from now until everything is ready. But packing up with $30k in his account to relocate to Nigeria is a very bad idea. It may even take as little as one slay queen to latch unto the OP and send him back to square one.

I just replied someone who said exactly what u said just now so go down the thread on my breakdown costs of building a filling station, it's something I have advised people on many occasion.. Besides I can see the phrase strategic location like there are not fuel stations in towns and even in some remote villages self ...I'm guessing you must be from Lagos where overpriced plot of lands can be sold at anything ...remember no matter how expensive the land is sold, the unit price is the same so roughly all fuel stations make jst abt the same value of sales

Are people this dumb? How come not a single poster here knows Americans are suffering more than Nigerians? 75% of Americans will die completely broke and in debt. If Americans were asked to advance 6 months rent over 280 million of them will sleep on the street and if their paycheck is delayed for one week then 65% of them will sleep inside the gutter. Americans that cant boast of 400usd in an emergency you dumb idiots are trying to compare to Nigerians where an average serious worker can save up 500k easily. I have statistics in documentary form to back these facts up.
Nevertheless by my statistics here is a summary of how much it costs to build a petrol station in Nigeria
1.Empty Land ( 1plot is idea but 2 plots is preferable -budget -500k -900k

2. Service station ( this is the building in the middle of every petrol station where the attendants stay or dispense other items except petrol from or where the managers office is located.. It is commonly a rectangular shaped building the size of 2 rooms. Mud blocks can be used to save cost and cheap corrugated roof can be used in it's construction since it building itself is almost useless as it doesn't in real sense bring any income for the petrol station when in operation. Budget 1.5 million to 2 million ( foundation 400k, construction to lintel 300k, roofing and plastering 1.2milion naira )

3. Underground tank - this is the actual most important part of a petrol station so it's advisable to build this first before constructing the service station ...price varies but most popular version is in form of a septic tank which almost everyone has in thier homes just that the plastering would be different to accommodate the petroleum products to be kept In them....budget 800k to 1.5 million naira

4. Fuel pumps/dispensers - for some very crazy reasons fuel pumps and dispensers cost a fortune even though it's a pump and an electronic meter to measure the quantity of liquid being dispensed is in all of them.... Fuel dispensers are expensive so budget 1 million for each unit ... The minimum you need is 2 units, on average you might need 3 fuel dispensers ....so budget 3 million

5. Shield for the fuel dispenser...this is made to provide shelter and illumination for the fuel pumps. They can be made from anything so far it does the job ...budget 200k

6.misclleanoues expenses which include the cost of applying for license to lift petroleum from Nnpc depots (if you have ur own tanker if not you can simply enter an agreement with someone that has ) and other operating costs -1 million naira

Total costs
1.empty land- 500k
2.service station- 1.5 million
3.fuel dispensers - 3 million
4.fuel shield/shelter-200k
5.operating and misclleanoues costs -1million

So total less than 6 million naira so in an effort to answer your question not only would 10 million build a petrol station in Nigeria, it can even build 2 petrol stations and make back the 10 million in less than 2 months of opening

One of his customer who brought a 40ft container containing cars slept and did not wake up that morning, he o nly got back from germany 3 days b4, the money the guy paid was still with my Agent, less than three hours come and see family people calling threatening the Agent to release goods ASAP. The license is expensive wht u do is you share with anothe station which has license to lift to sell to you preferably from another state so to NNPC u are the other station branch costs less than nothing ...some even load directly from other major filling depots ....so lifting license is a small issue

This is why I advised the op to think outside the box. Does everyone have to start off building or buying land? ESPECIALLY now there are other options that can see you be able to put a roof over your head and at the same time generate income.

My husband and I were in your situation roughly 2 years ago..He is Nigerian with a complicated Status in the US, I am British/Nigeria with no complicated status, 4 kids with American and British status. Because of the hubby facing removals from the USA, we had the option of him either returning to Nigeria and me filing for the UK Sposal paperwork for him and we can all go to the UK or we all should go to Nigeria. We decided to move to Nigeria instead...the kids get to be close to family and lear the culture....

Saved roughly about $75k, Paid off our 2 cars, Rented a house in Abuja for 2 years, paid children school fees also for 2 years., Shipped the 2 cars to Nigeria, I found a Country Manager Job in Nigeria etc...Hubby will find an IT contract when we arrive..etc

Then Dec 31st 2014 we made our move feeling preapred etc. I dont really want to into all numerous challanges we had including insecurity, bad health care, being stolen from , hubby kidnapped by SARs, I can go on....But just to let you know within 2 years, considering we are relatively very low key people our $75k dwindled down as after first 6 months, the company i worked for stopped paying salaries. Hubby had a very difficult time finding a paid employment and decided to start his own IT firm..which we did but got stolen from most of the time by employees.

This forced the very difficult decision to abandon Nigeria again this time for the UK where I and the kids are citizens and filed Spousal Visa for hubby. So we finally moved back in to the UK this summer with all things now going well, looking back at the Nigeria experience without being negative, It was one of the worst decisions we made...unless you are willing to abandon your ethics and join the status quo...you are in for a very rough time.

it is also quite expensive to maintain a decent lifestyle in Nigeria as a family as well. So your $30k will not go as far as you think...so my suggestion is to put Nigeria on a back burner for now and think of other scenarios that might work better for you but if Nigeria is only the option,then my friend, you need to have a plan and strategise and knowing all your strategies might not work but be willing to tough the ride...I dont care what all your friends say, when the rubber hits the road as we say..you will find yourself alone very quickly.

Hopefully you clear on where you get cheap land from now, a fuel dispenser costs a million naira each, as a lawyer I personally do C of O and other land agreements for 10 percent of the value of the land so that abt 50k to 100k

You would need abt 100 bags of cement with two truckload of gravel and sand budget 300k maximum...
So total is 500k plus our original 6.5mlion naira estimate so there is still much more of the 10 million naira left
