Good day. I am ibrahim and i wish to travel to the uk to live and work with my girlfriend. I must confess i am very ignorant of the requirements needed for spouse to get a visa based on fact that we not yet married undecided.

Is your girlfriend in the uk already? Is she studying working or a citizen? If she is in Nigeria and both of you want to move to the uk to work and then get married, I don’t think this is the right thread for you. If she is studying, you might be able to apply (if it’s a PhD only), if she is working, you might be able to apply but you won’t be able to work for 6 months. If she is a citizen, you will be able to apply but won’t work for 6 months. The visa application you will be applying for is the fiancé visa to allow you get married to her within the 6 months you will be granted entry in the uk. However the chances of a successful fiancé visa is low. I’ll advise you to marry her then apply.

Sorry. It is well.

Thanks @justwise, coming from you, it means a lot. I am not sure you know the gravity of impact you contribute to couple's applications, by reason of this thread/house. I and hubby intended applying middle of the year but after stumbling on this thread, I realised we were far from ready and would have been rejected. Few months later, after extensive reading and research of manuals over the years from the house, we were ready to apply. To God be the glory, we were successful. Thanks for being avaliable and consistent over the years. Thanks for the joy you bring couples, thanks for uniting homes.

Thank you for your kind words.

Honestly this thread and many others in this section are here today because of the commitment of many contributors here, many questions here will go unanswered without them and many contributed more than i do.

Its always helpful when people make an effort to read this thread like you did before asking question because most of the questions people ask here have been answered already.

Congratulations once again and welcome to very cold UK.

We have considered your application under paragraph EC-P 1.1 of Appendix FM. However, you do not qualify for entry clearance under the 5-year partner route for the following reasons: (one only reason tho)

Eligibility Financial Requirement
You do not meet the eligibility financial requirement of paragraphs E-ECP 3.1 to 3.4

You have stated you intend to meet this requirement through salaried employment with your sponsor having worked for her current employer for less than 6month. I note you have submitted evidence of her previous employer (Bleep). However if you are using employment with a company for less than 6months, you're required to submit 12months wage slips and bank statements, so we can confirm your sponsor total income is sufficient over the last year.

I note you submitted the following evidences:
Employment letter: Provided confirming salary and start date of July'16 for Bleep and also yyy May '17

Wage slips: Provided for both employments Bleep 19/08/2016 - 20/03/2017 and yyy 31/05/17 - 30/07/2017

Bank statements confirming salary submitted for the period Dec '16 - July '17

Therefore I'm unable to be satisfied you have submitted all of the required evidence to meet this rule.

Right of appeal
You have 28days from the date you receive this decision to appeal.

Meanwhile, we stated clearly we're using both salaried employment plus savings to meet the financial requirement and all evidences were submitted but its very obvious the savings part was neglected and ignored. She had over £25k in her savings for well over a year before we applied.
Job Bleep was paying £17,500 and she stopped in May, got job yyy paying £19,800 till August when we applied. Got another job (present one) paying £19,000.
What I don't get is why the case officer totally ignored the savings part.

Decision was made Nov 17, can u imagine that

So sorry to hear this. I can imagine the pain after time and money spent. Its well dear

Concerning WhatsApp messages, I can't rule that out. For our application, we had no phone records except WhatsApp messages and whatsapp calls, viber calls, Skype records and Facebook posts. No visit to UK, except hubby's visit to Nigeria for our wedding ceremonies. About 80 pictures containing wedding pictures, school pictures together and casual pictures. We submitted a truck load of WhatsApp messages dating years back, as our main mode of communication.

I didn't submit phone records either as our only mode of comms was via WhatsApp and FaceTime, and I thought they wouldn't want detailed WhatsApp messages and I didn't have a long enough history of our FaceTime calls. I only submitted about 40 photos of my wife and I - wedding photos and other time together.

The way I see it, its better to send WhatsApp messages irrespective of whether they're considered. Honestly I wish I had sent ours as it would have saved me from a lot of stress wondering if they'll refuse my wife's application because we didn't provide any communications.

Hello, can you please post a list of documents that you submitted and do they have to be in a particular order? My husband and I have gathered the docs we think we need and wish to submit very soon but not wanting to be refused is making me do more research.

Thanks

quote author=tenyii post=62932219]Hi guys so I’ve been a silent follower of this thread since I decided to apply for a UK spousal visa. Your posts (especially timelines) were very helpful for me and I thought I could help another person by sharing mine as well.

Type of Application: Settlement - Wife (Priority)
Application Submitted: 23 Oct
Supporting Documents sent to Sheffield: 3 Nov
Email confirmation of documents received: Never got one
Application Decided: 26 Nov
Visa Picked up: 26 Nov

All in all took about 1 month and was much earlier thank we expected but we are very grateful to God for how smooth the application process was.

For those deliberating about whether to send WhatsApp messages or what to send for their applications....remember that everyone’s circumstances are different. I feel things like travel history and general background of the individuals applying (especially your spouse) matter a lot. Put yourself in the shoes of the visa officer. If there is something you are uncomfortable about rather than lie or ignore it explain it in the additional information section...that’s what it’s there for. If you have substantial travel history show that that you do...make them see that your desire to relocate is because of your spouse. If you don’t have the pictures put the steamy conversation from your WhatsApp, if not put the pictures you have. Look through the guidelines carefully and make sure you put all the necessary documents to show that you just want to start the rest of your life with your spouse. No one wants to willingly keep two people away from each other if they genuinely love themselves (of cause there’s the bit about proving you won’t be using U.K. public funds for the next 5 years but yea that’s how developed countries protect themselves )

I’m sure all those waiting will have successful applications! God has already done it for us. [/quote]

Remember to chose settlement - Husband or Wife
Actually we all learnt through reading up because of different circumstances relating to each applicant.
For starters as the applicant, you will need your sponsor to be earning £18600/annum if you are without child or if your child is a British citizen.
With a child it increases to £22,400 and additional £2400 for subsequent child.
Docs from Sponsor and needed by Applicant
P60 of that year
Six months account statement
Payslips
Letter from the employer on letter head signed stating the year of employment, Remuneration
Utility bills e.g.Council tax, energy
Letter from Landlord /Receipts of payment stating he/she is domiciled at the residence and permitted to live with the spouse.
Communication Proof (Phone records from service provider , WhatsApp conversations, Facebook chats, IMO e.t.c.
Original Marriage certificate (Not Nigerian local govt) Federal Marriage Registry or UK recognised.
English language Proficiency (Either IELTS life skills A or if you have a UK degree or You can process a UK NARIC assessment of your Nigerian Degree taught in English)
Original Tuberculosis Test (You can do this at IOM i.e. International Organisation for Migration)
Lots of pictures at every meeting point, marriage pictures etc.
Copies of visas stamp for all travelling to meet.
Letter from Applicants employer if employed
Bank statement( just to show you have a life)
All docs is original.
Lest I forget, docs from self employed sponsor differs a little.

The applicant doesn't need to add his or her own bank statement or letter from employer, the sponsor needs to submit all that.

Tenancy agreement is enough you don't need to add receipt of rent payment.

If you are renting 1 or two bedroom flat you don't need a letter from your landlord allowing your wife or husband to live with you, show me where that is mentioned as a requirement. You only need a letter from landlord in the case of multiple occupation accommodation

You might have to send them an SAE for onward transmission (better than counting your fingers).....

Vulcan House is where they process priority applications. That's where I sent my wife's supporting documents. If you applied priority then it has gone to the correct team. If you applied standard then you've done the right thing calling them. As they have escalated it then it should be sent to the appropriate team for processing.

Type of application: Settlement(wife) but I put in Settlement marriage(mistake)- Priority
Application Submitted: 28 September 2017
Biometrics: October 4, 2017
Sent for Decision : October 4, 2017
Application received by UK Immigration: October 5, 2017
Supporting Documents sent to Sheffield: October 10, 2017
After coming across this topic on Nairaland, I realized the mistake I made in my application by choosing Settlement-marriage instead of Settlement-Wife and it was already too late for another application.
Wrote them a letter explaining the error and asking them for the IHS link : October 24,2017
Surprisingly got a an email requesting for payment for the IHS : November 22, 2017 (I leaped for joy)
Decision made email : December 1, 2017
Collection Email: December 4, 2017
Picked up : Today, Dec 5, 2017

Thank you to everyone that shared their experiences and everyone in the house. So excited!!!!

Baba God, Thank You.

P.s. I thought paying for Priority would mean faster process but all the same I’m happy.

Congrats...please how much did you pay for priority service?
