Guy. I have made over N3M on LinkedIn. My current job is via LinkedIn. I consult for 2 foreign firms I met on LinkedIn. You have to treat it as business not a chat place or just an avenue to meet new people.

You’re definitely not using it right and you’re not following the right people. Shame. Or maybe your LinkedIn presence is vapid and insipid. I know peole that have got mouth watering jobs in choice companies through the platform, the recruiters simply “slid into their DMs” and made good offers. If I want to get a job now, I can do so via LinkedIn and I can bet that within one to two weeks, I’d get a job I want. It’s all about connecting with the right people and not just being an inactive member. Create time to network, discuss, associate with other professionals. Remember it’s not like any other social network, it’s a professional one. I know the kind of useful help I’ve gotten via the platform. LinkedIn has so many potentials and it’s sad that people are not really aware about its existence. Anyways makes it even better for me. Lol

Let me not join people in teasing you
Kudos to the person that said you can't be taught everything...but it's till not bad pointing you in the right direction.

So let me assit as best as I can..
Look for professionals in your Field..ie people whom have gone far
Study their profile...if there's any knowledge experience etc that these people have ...that you can relate with or also have , infuse such into your profile...

Don't put up information or claims you cant back up..it will backfire..to some companies your more attractive to them as a novice..which you rightly are...so be honest

Some one mentioned optimisation...yes oo, there are many people like you on LinkedIn...HR people can't go through all the CV...they look out for certain words, phrase, infact at times it's a software that Garner's people with certain vthings on their profile...observe he big boys and be wise

You need to learn how to use it. I've gotten 2 interviews and job offers which I turn down due to poor renumeration. I've also had the chance to interact with industry leaders professionally.

I know of someone who got a good job with a very good company that deals in oil services in Lagos .His details were lifted off from linked in

LinkedIn works mostly for people with experience but all the same there is an increase in social recruitment especially on LinkedIn
In 2017, I got 7 interview invites from LinkedIn alone.

You just need to understand how it works.

If you are a fresh graduate, join groups related to your field, comment, post that u are seeking a position and request for your connection to like and share to their feeds.

You will also work on optimization of your post, use word that a recruiter would search for if he was search for your skills.

Check my topics , I would an article on how to get job offers via LinkedIn, though I need to add new tips.

infact you comment is d only meaningful contribution in this thread, the rest r just throwing bigbig blah blah 'its networking' 'optimatisation' without drawing any clear conclusion.

Clients look at your profile and decide if you have the required experience. they contact you for a chat. During the chat they 'measure' you. If you are good they proceed to make a consultancy offer. They are mostly firms looking to do business in Africa/Nigeria.

Haa, maybe you aren't connected to the right network. I am also a graduate of Electronic/Electrical Engineering and into Renewable energy and by God's grace, LinkedIn has been a boost to my career.

Knowledge wise, connection wise, I have been blessed through it. I have gone for two interviews and by God's grace, my present employment was gotten from the platform as my employer contacted me directly through the platform

Finally, I have made a lot of connections outside the shores of Nigeria through LinkedIn most especially in my field of renewable energy and mind you, will be out of the country soon to work on a project I was contacted for by one of my connections.

So bro, you need to see through the glass

People get jobs in US through the platform from Nigeria and relocate.
Upsell yourself and rearrange your profile.
Put functional emails and phone numbers, be professional.and also use a very professional picture on your profile , not a picture of you at a bar or at swimming pool...office setting picture is preferable...your picture speaks much about you....don't use slangs, the platform is not fb or instagram, avoid abbreviations of words, check your write up and check again. Don't lie about your years of experience or qualification or certification, and upgrade after each qualification, for instance , you just finished your M.sc and you are pursuing your PhD, you can add *PhD Scholar* in your profile, list your publications, articles, trainings, areas of interests, exhibitions etc.... Be yourself. Good luck.
