Dear TWoods,

Apologies, I've not been online.

Please find attached.

Could it be that I don't understand their position on the graduate assistantship?

TWoods:

Are you sure what you were awarded is a graduate assistantship?

Also, I am aware of the university of Maryland system, never heard of Maryland unit as being close to Ivy League. But I may be wrong.

Call the school and clarify if this means you do not pay tuition. Most graduate assistance position do not pay tuition but this is worded in such a way that only the school can clarify what exactly does this offer entails. Ask them to break it down fully which will help you plan well

Congrats

It seems you are not even taking this serious. You need to ask them if Tuition is waived or what percentage of Tuition is waived? If its an Assistanship, how much is the stipend worth per month? If you don't know all this, this might derail your plans if you decide to attend the school. From the look of things, it seems you will just earn a stipend and still pay the full Tuition per semester. Even at that, you need to know the numbers of hours you will be working per week.

Oga Femi,

Good evening. I do take this very serious o. A bit of humor doesn't negate that.

So I got another mail and it clarifies the hour and the stipend.

Please find attached.

Thanks everyone for the input...great response!

Although am optimistic, but am also looking at a worst case scenario. What are the pros and cons for getting a loan to study in a school like Stanford. The school has a loan package for international students. What's your view on this?
it's great if you are very sure of a Job after graduation regardless of what you Visa status is, The Indians take thousands of dollars in loan package from their home country most of them pay it off during their CPT and OPT. For instance, I still owe my school but I made a payment plan to clear it within a year of graduation. don't be scared, just be smartly aggressive.

Your graduate assistantship comes with partial tuition waiver or stipends or both. This is common with most business and professional masters programs. Its mostly research masters that come with full funding alongside assistantships.

Ask your graduate coordinator about the exact fee waived alongside your assistantship

VO:Hello Good morning
ME: Good morning Sir
VO:Your passport and ur Sevis...passed it to him
VO:Why are you going to the US to study
Me:Growing up,I admired planes and would run when I see one. I have an uncle who has always being an adviser who also works in the aviation company and advised me to pursue a career in aviation. After my secondary sch,I applied into NCAT( Nigerian College Of Aviation Technology and graduated last year. My and senior colleagues in the aviation line then advised me to apply for an airline dispatch course in the states. I made my enquiries and applied into IFOD and Avel but I loved IFOD more because it gives a lifetime support to its student by contacting airline companies on behalf of its students and giving a grace of a lifetime refresher course. It also accommodates its International students and support them all round their careers.
VO:Why not do the course in Nigeria??
Me:The Nigerian dispatch training only offers the certificate while America is the only country approved in the world to give an FAA(Federal Aviation Administration) license and this takes a short period of time.
VO:What have u being doing since you graduated??
Me:NCAT had helped my knowledge in supervision and management and this made my dad entrust his company's branch in Ibadan to me to supervise the operations there. The company is at 20 Prost Building Arometa Eleyele road Ibadan
VO:What does your dad do??
Me:He's a Estate Surveyor and land manager.
VO:Where will you stay in the Operations US
ME:I've contacted the school and arrangement has being made in an hotel in Bedford for my arrival.
VO: Will you be coming back to Nigeria??
Me:I definitely will because my uncle has promised a job in Nigeria as soon as I get my dispatch license and IFOD also guarantees a recommendation for a job in my country,so I'm having two options
VO:Do you have your Waec result with you here??
Me:No sir
VO:Ooh ok...What were ur grades
Me:Had 3 C's,2B's and 2A's.
VO:The program is lasting for a month right??
Me:No sir...5weeks
VO:Goodluck!!!make sure you keep this very well because you will be needing it at the port of entry when you get to the United States etc.

Very true, those indians have good support system for graduate education funding unlike Nigeria.

Nevertheless, the job prospect of studying in Stanford is very high for EE. Although the repayment period is around 5-10 years(for Stanford's foreign student loan) and 15-20 years for mpower financing but its better to study without the burden of thinking about outstanding debts.

Moreover, the deadline for admission offer accept/reject is mid-April. Till then,I just have to chill, hoping I get funding from other schools I applied to.

I guess what you're looking for are HBCUs (historic black colleges and universities). Some are Morgan State University, Towson University, North Carolina A and T University, Bowie State University (you can check it out but please do not apply nor bank on this school for admission) etc.

i my view your visa transcript was not bad, but i think the reason for your delay was because you didn't write any standardized test. no standardized exams = POTENTIAL MIGRANT to most VOs[/b].
i will advice you prepare and write a standardized test and then you can file again.
