One of the things I enjoy most on this forum is BEAR QUARREL. As a bystander, I make sure I read all the comments . From the individual comments you would know those that a trapped and are trying to use the window as the doors are 'sarsed'. You will also know those that use their feeding money to want to do quick jijo, but........ Some quarrels can only be settled by the appearance of the bulls, no amount of sermon I know some have vowed never to do JIJO again in their life as they have learnt that nothing is insured in the insurance section of NSE |

Some of the results that were released today include: STANBIC (Gross earnings: +35.81%, Profit before Tax: +64.38% and Profit after Tax: +69.64% ); GUARANTY (Gross earnings : +1.11%, Profit before Tax: +21.26%, and Profit after Tax : +28.27%). The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) published the Consumer Price Index and Inflation Report showing that the Headline Inflate rate declined by 0.80% to 14.33% YoY (year-on-year). Negative sentiment dominated the market today as the banking and consumer goods recorded losses which dragged overall performance. The impressive result from GUARANTY and STANBIC and the much lower inflation rate for February 2018 failed to lift the mood in the market. 1 Like |

https://trwstockbrokers./2018/03/14/afriprud-dividend-play-is-a-risky-investment-strategy/ AFRIPRUD broke our main support level @ N4.37 thus cancelling all the earlier dividend gain. This implies that a ‘dividend play’ investment strategy remains a risky ‘one chance’ strategy thus cannot be part of a passive portfolio. I am in agreement here...... |

IchimokuPilot: For a high stock price: It is very simple. Laymen compare the dividend declared with gain they made and calculate how many years their gain will cover the dividend assuming they pay the same amount. Example: Dayo buys bank A shares at N24. He hold the shares for 2 years and price hits N50. He assumes that if they pay slightly higher than the previous year dividend, he could get like N2.6 per share. Now he tries to compare difference between N50 and N24. This is N26 per share. With simple BODMAS, he divides the gain per share by the dividend per share. This gives him 10 years assuming they pay this amount continuously. This mean that he compares the 10 years cash out (N26)or hold the dividend (N2.6) The laymen will quickly apply 'Nkemjika". 3 Likes |

RabbiDoracle: For low stock price, Example: Dayo buys bank A shares at N24. He hold the shares for 2 years and price stays around N32 throughout the period. He assumes that they pay the same dividend as the previous year. This time N2.2 Now he tries to compare difference between N32 and N24. This is N8 per share. With simple BODMAS, he divides the gain per share by the dividend per share. This gives him 3.6 years assuming they pay this amount continuously. This mean that he compares the 3.6 years cash out (N8)or hold the dividend (N2.2) While some will sell, some will say " kini big deal". Just N8 pere!!! I can wait jare. So he waits for the big day while collecting the dividend year in year out. 1 Like |

In the other news: Economy: Crude is back over $61/barrel following the firing of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. Some assume that will clear the way for President Trump to make good on his promise to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, which is theoretically bullish for oil, as sanctions would be reinstituted against the Islamic Republic. Saudi Arabia and others still have enough spare capacity to make up for any deficit. Crypto - warning: Following a similar hard-line approach taken by Facebook, Google will ban crypto-related advertising starting in June, including ICOs, wallets, and trading advice across any of its platforms. "We don't have a crystal ball to know where the future is going to go with cryptocurrencies, but we've seen enough consumer harm or potential for consumer harm," said Scott Spencer, Google's director of sustainable ads. Can this affect the NSE? Shares in Asia buckled under pressure overnight despite positive economic data out of China. Industrial output grew 7.2% in January-February, while fixed-asset investment expanded 7.9% and retail sales rose 9.7%. Equities seemed to be nervous over impending U.S. tariffs, which may now target up to $60B worth of goods, as well as punitive measures against intellectual property theft. - culled from SA Meanwhile the DOW is bleeding! So we watch/act carefully for most things that goes up will always come down and may be vice versa. #Just-thinking-loud: - Always do DD/invest only on fundamentally sound/dividend paying companies/give time after planting - Avoid too much greed and take some profit off the table when price goes up |
