i am aware of japan progress too especially in the area of robotic technology and their effective automobile industry which can be compared to that of Germany.
but in general, USA spends so much on research and development more than any country making them a top notch in the wold,
well, it might not be well organized like German and japan but it indeed a technology hub.
the only country near USA in spending on research and development is china which and yet she is still on the average.
japan is quite impressive but not much advance than USA . it still lags behind in IT infrastructure .
isreal too is not far fetched, the small nation has a lot of technological companies listed on the Nasdaq stock market more than any country in the world apart from USA and china .
maybe china will take the spot soon. that is another story for another day
