Arsenal were brought crashing down to earth in their Premier League International Cup showpiece against Porto on Tuesday evening, no thanks to the talents of Nigerian wonder kid, Musa Yahaya who set up the winning goal of the 1-0 defeat.

Defensive stalwart Tolaji Bola was named in the hosts starting XI with Aaron Eyoma while the ex-Tottenham Hotspur trainee Yahaya was handed his third start in six games of the tournament for Porto.

It was the former Nigeria U17 youngster who would provide his side's opening goal after just 10 minutes, showcasing his trickery by twisting into space to tee up striker, Madi Queta for an easy finish.

It was evident Arsenal sorely missed the effervescence and decisiveness of their Nigerian players on international duty with England, the likes of Folarin Balogun, Xavier Amaechi and Bukayo Saka.

Olayinka was the only substitute afforded minutes after he replaced striker, Yassin Fortune as they continued to chase the deficit while the scintillating Yahaya went the full ninety for the visitors.

Arsenal star and new academy manager Per Mertesacker was among the spectators at the Emirates who watched the Nigerians on both sides display their wares

Its amazing that you watch several matches every day but you seem ignorant of tactics teams deploy against each other. I bet that you see these tactics but just choose to remain stuck to some old school believe about football.

On this thread, several times in the past, it has been said here that football have evolved. The dynamics have changed. But it seems that many people are yet to come to full grasp about how football is currently played on their screens.

If we were both managers, i Nigeria's coach, you Croatia.... You play me from the middle and i will play you from the sidelines... At the end of the day, Baba i will beat you silly grin
Football has evolved. Fact. Look at Mourinho struggling to cope with the new shining boys like Gaurdiola, Klopp and the coaches of Roma and Juve. Arsene Wenger one of the last of the old guard is taking his leave. Football has changed.

musa is a lovely just that the leicester boss didn't know how utilize him. musa and vardy are the same type of player and having both in the same starting 11 wouldn't work. a move to a counter attacking team will bring out the best of musa

Well, let's see how it pans out.

The good form he has found back at CSKA is good for the SE.

Tricky Winger Adekanye Torments Chelsea As Liverpool Win Final PL2 Game

Published: May 08, 2018
Tricky Winger Adekanye Torments Chelsea As Liverpool Win Final PL2 GameImmensely talented Nigerian youngster, Bobby Adekanye put in a pivotal display for Liverpool in their 5-1 rout of Chelsea U23s in their final league game on Tuesday evening.

Two days ago, it was Nigerian international, Victor Moses who orchestrated Chelsea's 1-0 win over Liverpool but this time, it was the highly-rated starlet that came back to haunt the young Blues at Anfield.

After Liverpool had gone ahead through George Johnston after 21 minutes, Adekanye was on hand to create further daylight between them, doubling his side's lead with an emphatic finish after showing quick feet to skip his way past Chelsea defender, Joshua Grant and get into shooting position to score.

The 19-year old winger continued to torment the Chelsea defense and was very adept in linking up with his fellow attackers.

A further brace from Yan Dhanda and another two from Johnston all added up with Adekanye's superb effort to pull off the 5-1 victory.

With the result, Liverpool(40) finished the season just two points shy of champions, Arsenal while Chelsea lie in eighth with 29 points.

How do you control a game that you have already gifted out the midfield?
You do not need to control a game to win it.

Do you know if Yahaya played as a Winger or a Wing Back.

Of course but controlling the midfield puts you in a better position to control a game. And controlling a game puts you in a better position to win the game.

Published: May 08, 2018
Official: One-Time Nigeria Target Iorfa Announces Return To Premier League NewcomersOne-time Nigeria Football Federation target Dominic Iorfa has announced that he will not be extending his stay at EFL Championship outfit Ipswich Town.

Last July, the former England U21 star joined the Blues on a season-long loan to enable him play on a regular basis after losing his starting spot at Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The right-back played 25 matches in all competitions for Ipswich Town and had a hand in three goals, logging 1,908 minutes in total.

Writing on Twitter, Iorfa stated : ''Massive thanks to everyone @Official_ITFC. Really enjoyed my time at the club and I wish everyone the best in the future ''.

Ipswich Town have not yet announced their retained list but they have retweeted Iorfa's post, which confirms that the defender is returning to the Molineux Stadium ahead of the start of pre-season training.

The 22-year-old spent a portion of the 2013-14 season on loan at Shrewsbury Town, for whom he made his professional debut.

Ighalo and Moses are African born.

Fred Onyedinma and Tosin Kehinde both born in Nigeria.

What disadvantage did they face.

Or would you say Ndidi faced disadvantage.

Four names out of the millions of Kids who dream of being Football stars at the top level. A few making it or on the Road to making it does not mean African players are born with equal opportunities with their European Counterparts.

do you think that organising camps are as easy as they come? Those boys coming to camp you will pay them, pay their hotel dues and transport fares and pay for the friendly games, you also pay for the stadia they will use and that is the viable option you have in mind? we already have a hard time paying our coaches or even developing the other national teams and you are asking for this extra burden? it does not work that way

That is where organization comes in and also improvisation. I never said it is a walk in the pack. At least we had Rohr holding a camping session and getting coaches to work with some talents. This shows we can do more than fold our arms.

So we should just scrap all our age grade teams. Since you call it folding of the arms. And then pack all our youth players into "Team B".

Point to the members of The current SE that were never members of our youths system. U17- U23.

TheGoodJoe, I used to see you as someone who believes in our youth's system. How you have chosen the opposite course because of one argument is just....... something else.

I am talking of doing more to gain more from the age grade process and making the most we can from our discovered talents. I wonder how you came to scrap age grade teams.

I believe in our youth system but I also believe that the Youth level football is not enough. We need more work to compliment it.

In football whenever the coaches at the club level begin any form of revolution it seeps to the national team. The Dutch team in the 70's was a product of the tactical innovations instituted at the club level with clubs like Psv and Ajax leading. The Italian national team of the 90's carried in its blood the innovations of of Arigo Sacchi. What of Spain in recent times - was it not what was happening at club level that was replicated in the national team?

With the fewer number of games, that are far between, that the national teams have to play in a calender year, national teams have limited time to experiment.

These changes are much slower with the national teams.

What do you want the NFF to do? Send him a special trainer or send him a special invite to the Super Eagles for training purposes? So what happens to other young talented players? They will be left out while a position is practically reserved for a player that you cannot be sure he will come out good?

Was he not part of the last Flying Eagles? Was he not tutored by Amuneke in the U20 camp?

Now he is eligible for the U23 he should make himself available for screening/selection.And you say it is same as folding of arms.

Mikel is a good player but at his age are you seriously saying that he's our best? I'm not here to argue I'm just worried that Nigeria will flop hard if the other players don't produce some majick

Mikel is past his best surely. We can't and shouldn't depend on him alone. Argentina and Portugal are not Nigeria. What I mean is that they at least have players who play regular football for good clubs. Our boys do not. This is not the 94 team were we had players who had flare. This team did excellently in the qualifiers and I thought that Mikel with his penchant to hold on tho the ball in midfield was hindering the team. Were he excelled was when he was in attack. There he is extremely dangerous.

I'm concerned that's all I'm not critiquing or shilling I just ....... Want to turn up to Nigeria v England on June 2nd and see Nigeria become the first African team to whoop England. I don't want to be embarrassed

Surely you understand

we have had this argument before as concerns the 94 team vs this team.

Mikel is our best player. That one dey, it doesn't mean the other players are trash. 90% of teams have a stand out player, do they not?

So, we don't have good players who play regularly? So Moses, Ndidi, Ogu, Shehu, Iwobi, they are not good players who play regularly? undecided

If it was by good players who play regular football, Algeria ought to have qualified ahead of us, abi? The likes of Italy and Ivory Coast should have also qualified.

Agreed. This era though is usually tagged as the era of the coaches meaning it's tactics that rules. Before it used to be individual brilliance from players but here's what Klopp said:We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics."

So yes the changes are slower at the club level because of the shortness of time but national team coaches who embrace changes faster are likely to call the shots in tourneys.
