We should do more we should do more. Forgetting that the best place for those players to develop are at their clubs. How many times do national teams meet in a year. No favoritism please. Any player that comes out good irrespective of whether he was an U17 product or not, he should be invited to the Super Eagles please. TheGoodJoe, na you know o. I am done with this discussion abeg. |

Icon4s: The debate is about complimenting the age grade competitions. I have given examples of how we can do that. |

Icon4s: That is why I am glad Rohr has ideas to help in a little way. You think Rohr was crazy when he picked Awaziem and worked with him when he was not a regular in a major league? The debate is about how we can do more to raised more players to do good and earn places in the Super Eagles. The point is too simple. |

BascoVanVeli: You know,if Conte hadn't decided to try his 3-4-3 formation with Chelsea, we won't be having this discussion of playing Moses at Wingback at all... Dude is a winger right since he started playing professional football.. that's his best position and he is our best attacking threat... We already have Ighalo who isn't consistent,Nacho who struggles while playing as a lone striker and Iwobi who is wasted on the wings... Why drop Moses to wingback.. Ahsim,Rohr said it recently that Moses best position is as a winger and he won't play him at WB . So what's the fuss?? |

Icon4s: We should not wait until Iheanacho scored the goal for Manchester City against Crystal Palace before he becomes part of the Super Eagles. The Team B should be an extension of the Super Eagles and if someone prolific comes out of it, we should not wait him to do well in the club before he gets a nod. We should not let the clubs be the only decider. We should do more to help develop a larger pool of players. |

BascoVanVeli: Do you know Ronaldo and Nani were Portugal 's two strikers at the last Euros? Why? They were their most potent players. Is that the position they play at their clubs? No. Do you know David Alaba was deployed to the number 10 role by Austria at the last Euros? In the national teams players are deployed to positions where they are most needed. 1 Like |

Icon4s: The U21 can help but keep in mind, we also have players who are above 21 fighting for places in the team too. A good example is Sone Aluko. We need more activities for our players. A U21 team does this too. |

Mujtahida: That's true.. and he don't look keen on experimenting too much... Look at our GK issue.. he could have handed one of Ejide and Aiyenugba a call up after Ikeme illness but he stuck with Akpeyi and co. until Uzoho came along... His recent statement shows that he may end up sticking with Uzoho... I'm not expecting any surprise in the 35 man list at all.. |

Mujtahida: Substitutions are made only when or where necessary. There is no law that says a coach must use all his 3 substitutions. |

Danielnino00: If Conte didn't play him at RWB could u beat your chest and tell me he would still have a Chelsea career? Rohr said his best position is at winger but in case u forgot there is no winger in the 3-5-2 |

BascoVanVeli: I think it is best for Victor Moses to be allowed to interchange on the flanks. Putting him on the RM will limit his movement across the flanks. |

BascoVanVeli:Mr, how can you deploy your most potent forward, your danger man, your biggest weapon to a defensive role when you're supposed to unleash him at full stretch? It makes no sense at all. Where have you seen that happen? Mention one team that has tried it. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by BascoVanVeli(m): 12:31am On May 09, 2018 |
Icon4s: There u go with more lopsided examples. They played at striker because the team didn't have any other option. For crying out loud Eder- was their back up, if that doesn't scream of lack of quality then I don't know what does. We already have Iwobi and Nacho that combined for 3 goals and an assist as strikers in the 3-5-2, we also have Ighalo and Musa who will also get a look so what is the big deal if Moses plays in a position that he has shown he can win matches in. I don't get wat the fuss really is about tbh. Its not like I am saying he should play goal keeper, this is a position he knows more than anyone on the team. |

TheGoodJoe: You will invite a player like Sonne Aluko and put him in a "Team B" as you call it. Hen I laugh. European teams all have standing U21 teams and there is even a European U21 tournament to expose these players. Countries in Europe value this age grade far more than the U19/20 cos they pick from this pool to their senior teams and their U21 teams go ahead to play in the Olympics a year or 2 later. Now, the question should be how do we acccommdate players who are over 21 but are yet to feature for the Super Eagles. Remember I mentioned it as the U21/23 team. Or the U21 to progress to U23. It is expected that some exceptional players who are already 21 would have proven themselves already to get a call up to the Super Eagles. However for those who could not break in and are still in their early 20s we have an U23 age grade competition which can accommodate these them and just like from previous Dream teams we select the ones that excel to the Super Eagles. Look at simple examples of Ekong, Shehu, and Etebo from the Rio team. A good number of U23 players though are typically senior team players. Like Ekong and Shehu. My major targets for that U21-23 are players who are past the age of the 2019 U20 but are eligible for the 2020 U23. In this pool we have numerous talented players whose careers are on the ascendancy both in Europe and the NPFL. I can role out at least 50 names. We groom them together, organize quality friendlies during the FIFA free window and keep progressing those that excel. That is the simple model I am proposing. Rather than just picking 1 or 2 players and say they are special talents. We need this large pool cos we do not know those who will finally come out good or otherwise so we don't hope on a particular player or few set of players and when they flop we get hit badly. |

BascoVanVeli: What do you mean by lopsided example? It is not that Portugal did not have any other options. Eder aside, are there no strikers in the whole of the Portuguese league? There are several strikers of Portuguese origin but the coach chosed to convert Ronaldo and Nani to strikers for that tournament. These were players that were most likely to give the team that cutting edge up front. Which was why they were paired upfront. That is the same case with Moses here. He is that WF that has the most potency to give us the cutting edge upfront. For God's sakes we don't have issues with our Wing back options. |

charlesemeka85:You just dey yarn rubbish. If you watched the game against CIV, you'd see we weren't outplayed. We won the match cause we were the better side. You should also call the four goals that went past the Malian goal luck. And Mikel's game against Spain at the confederations cup is arguably his best in the GWG and that was under Keshi. So Rohr wouldn't be the first to bring the best out of him. Keshi's style is even more attractive than Rohr's style. I had argued with sir Mickael2 when he was critical against Rohr but I noticed the SE ain't shit without Mikel under him. Keshi failure at his latter days as our coach was due to the politics at the glass house. They all wanted him out from day one and it only tooks the then president's intervention to keep him on the job. Keshi also took TOGO to the World Cup while Rohr's breakthrough with an African team is our and the reason is obviously due to the talents at his disposal. Not taking away anything from him though but if he fails to go past the second round at the world cup, then I'll keep searching for the aspect in which he trumps Keshi. He'll be regarded as a failure. |
