Pretty close apparently: http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=44827&catid=111&Itemid=242

obviously still won't beat the real thing!

Well as Lionel put it hearsay isn't much proof but you said you are putting your reputation on the line and the fact you're not Henry or Covert so you actually still have one, I am open to the fact that you might have qualified men in your military.....however without proof I still can't say for sure that your Military has unit that is fully HAHO/HALO capable....seem fair to you??
It's fair enough
Hopefully soon I will prevail on the guy to send me pictures

I'm not here to prove anything to you. I only shared that picture for educational purposes.

Whatever you choose to agree or disagree with is of no importance.

1. Posts picture relevant to a current discussion, claims HALO
2. Turns out it isnt

My question is simply how many airframe can you put in the air as on today, now.

Without preparing, as in right now, I would say that number would be equal the number of Gripen pilots at or near 2 Squadron. So I would estimate 6-8 airframes. With perhaps 48 hour notice...above 15 I would say.

Well we've scrambled 4(or 5?) in a matter of minutes back in 2013(Bangui) and the most i've seen deployed on a single exercise was 9 so guessing the the number would be between 8-12 but since our Government feels disclosing the number of pilots we have is a risk to national security we will never know for certain.

but 17 seems a bit far fetched if we had a day or 2 and it was an emergency then certainly but honestly i just can't imagine that as we are speaking there are 17 Gripen with 17 pilots ready to go. 8-12 seems more realistic.

I think the thing is that we are talking about "units" qualified for HAHO/HALO and the domestic capacity to train units in HAHO/HALO

No doubt there are a number of your operators who received such qualifications while training abroad.
If its about domestic capacity to train units in HAHO/HALO,we certainly do not(at least none that I know of)

You want a country not at war with anyone, not even publicly arguing with anyone, to have 15+ Gripen hot and ready to takeoff within the next 30 mins? Lmao grin grin

I've never really read through your posts on here, but I always assumed you knew what you were talking about. You would be hard pressed to find any air force not currently involved in operations, with more than 60% of it's fighter fleet ready at any moment.

I think the Germans are even below 50% at the moment.

The Germans are losing their Air Force by the day.

My reasons for asking is why did SAAF pull out all its Gripens from operational storage only to have "8-9" actively flying.

Although I understand your country's budget constraint.
Also over reliance on your Gripenized Hawks could cause your pilot to lose their fighting edge. If you understand my drift.

How is it a dumb question? since the Navy SEALs is an American unit and not a Nigerian one!

Airframes are rotated, and storage is the last place you want to put them. Bringing them out of long term storage isn't a quick simple job.

so how fast do you think your air force regenerate a 26 ship formation for air strike say for instance in Angola.

All the air-frames are actually flying....just not at the same time....also bringing them out of rotational storage could also mean that there was increase in availability of air-frames and pilots(which we wouldn't know since it's a state secret for no apparent reason) or maybe an entire different reason.

It is a dumb question since you've answered it yourself. But then you turn a blind eye to save face.

Earlier I told you the NNSBS regime of training involves months of SEAL team qualification. You don't get the NNSBS badge without SEAL level qualification and that includes HAHO/HALO, submarine operations and under water demolitions and combat etcetera. The NNSBS also incorporates courses for qualification not only peculiar to the US Navy SEALS.

And what is all this HAHO/HALO noise about: the difference being the use of oxygen mask in seconds of exit at some 30,000 feet so that the operator don't get asphyxiated. It is not rocket science though rare.

Lots of you guys on here truly have issues.
What's the mentality of "We are the best" or most effective etc. All the power some people think they have now, pales in comparison to what other countries outside of the continent has, so what are some of you guys bragging about? Pity
Can't we all just be humble and enjoy the thread? Or i need to call the UN to use the French forces to deliver more tampons for you fellas?

Well consider this:

SAAF has all 26 Gripen operational...which is outstanding considering our limited budget

RAF for example has 148 Typhoon of which 126 are operational......of that 126 only 40 can be deployed on short notice.

Germany on the other hand oly has 55% of its fighter fleet operational.

Operational doesn't mean deploy-able all at once.

So yes i think we are on par with the rest of the world...not better but on par with most.

The full squadron is operational. Link was posted earlier.

In the past having the squadron run at limited strength is actually not as abysmal as you think considering the context.

I think their helo fleet was running at something like 10%. I will look it up on my lunch break.

The NNSBS is SEAL qualified for the full-spectrum of all special Ops in any terrain or weather. They are the best in this region. No one comes close. That I can tell you. Except someone leaks something I have no official source for you since much of what they do is officially classified.

Looks possible, we can't keep sending units outside just to qualify for HA jumps. So yes
