You're misinformed, out of touch with reality and your thinking process is flawed. You have the logic of a baby and if you're one of the future leaders with this ideology, it's further proof of how hopeless the country is and the direction you're heading.

You must think working here is slavery lol. Get informed, your ignorance is comical. You think if there's a slow work day and there's nothing to do, an employer wouldn't pay you because you weren't doing anything in the last hour or two? You know nothing. You have no idea what my job is, or the hours, or the work policy. We are employees, not slaves.

How many times will I state that I've only lived in two countries hence the reason for only speaking about what I know of (Life in Nigeria and the U.S.)? Maybe you should learn how to do the same.

What's wrong with driving taxis, working in burger King or in the mortuary? A job is a job as long as they're not doing anything illegal. Do you know how much the hardworking Uber/Lyft drivers can make in Texas? My friends doing it full-time make a minimum of $1300 weekly.

Where did you get the idea I'm still a student who depends on her parents and has no idea how the U.S. system works? You just pulled the assumption out of nowhere? From what I wrote about my experience of many years ago?

Lol. This is going to be my last reply to you hahaha. I don't have time for stupid posts.
I concur, his post are not just stupid, wacked but reeks of ignorance of the highest order, I actually pity him, he has lived so much in suffering in Nigeria that his medulla oblaganta is seriously impaired, what a pity embarassed

One thing I noticed on this thread,

most people commenting & giving there opinions have never seen an Airport or left Nigeria ever grin

Then again when an average Nigerian hears anything relating, migrating to the USA like the guy above, they bring up the issues of working with Uber, mortuary, burger King bla bla bla

I'm curious, is it that most Nigerians always think, most people want to travel illegally??
work on odd jobs?

They will back it up with there uncle who never made it & has nothing to show for, after years of living in the USA.

If you travel legally, respect your host country, you will succeed...

Ps: Not everyone will travel illegally like your uncles grin and not succeed, am sick of that line.

What refreshing words to see....
You, the OP, and some others (here on N.L.) have given me hope that truly more than 3 percent of positive Nigerians exist....

Somebody will travel to America hustle, see and enjoy the good things of life (good health care, excellent education, good roads and excellent living conditions), live like a human, be treated with respect and dignity, enjoy First and world class infrastructure, See how smoothly a system works, even raise or plan to raise his family in that same sane society and even get the BLUE passport or GREEN card....

Then come here and tell me how to make money in Nigeria, how great the future is in here and as much as possible discourage me from travelling to see and enjoy same thing he enjoyed....If I headbutt you angry angry

Bro, this is not true. I can sacrifice my left balls to say some places have constant light. This is why I said some people are comfortable. Do you know that some guys order custom made cars, some order direct from the manufacturers abroad, will such a person not provide constant electricity for himself or you think he will wait for government? Another thing is that those guys working in oil sector are making money. My friend working with NNPC has travelled twice to America this year, sponsored by the govt. I will never advice him to relocate because the guy is very comfort here. You speak of security, guy you don here say thief enter Banana Island before? Reason things na. You hear say robbers they enter Maitama or Aso villa? Try reason things na, even if e happen i no sure say such thief go survive am. I'm not saying it cant happen, but crime rate is low in rich areas. The rich ones try to provide all these things for themselves. No be Davido buy private Jet? Banky, Tiwa are all US citizens bro, yet them de make am here, dem no fit relocate to Yankee. As a hustler with nothing to lose, all man should try luck but if you are making it here, there's no point.
Cant believe someone is defending his country blindly, I’m proud of my country anywhere but let’s face the reality; nothing is working in this country, youare talking about banana island having constant light, in which the fraction of banana island to Nigeria community as whole is negligible. I’m residing in United Arab Emirates and I can say they have gone far ahead of us in so many areas, I wonder the country that was nothing 30 years ago is now the center of attractions for most tourist. Everything is working here; security; you are free to stroll around at any hours of the day and nobody will be targeting your purse or bag or the fear of being shot, infrastructures; good roads and modern schools, big government hospitals e.t.c, TRANSPORTATION; I find it so hard to believe that during the year 1984, Nigerian airways had like 15 or more airplanes while Emirates airline had just two but you can see what the situation is right now. My base point is Nigeria keep getting worse everyday with our leaders doing nothing other than embezzling our money and resources. I just pray Nigeria should be great again

Bro, as a Nigerian(which you claim) you are in Dubai, doing menial work and developing their country while leaving in bed space under terrible conditions. Bro, is that life? What have you done on your part to contribute towards Nigeria's development or you think it's to complain online that will solve our problem? If I drink water and throw the bottle out of the window of my car, am I not adding to the waste problem in my community? If I see refuge on the road, pick it and dispose it properly, am I not helping to solve the problem? One of our problems which you failed to remember is that we contribute little or nothing towards making our country great, yet we are part of the problem.

Get your facts straight, I ain’t doing menial job here and moreover if I’m doing menial job here it is much more better doing nothing back at home because the country is driving with no positivity on sight, you are here talking bad about people outside the shores of Nigeria where as they re trying to be a betterment of their self not to constitute nuisance to the country that is failing us. On the part of you saying we the citizens should contribute towards the growth of the country; if there is a working system in Nigeria I bet it, it might take time but everyone will blend the system at the later end. A good example is Dubai where they put every rules and regulations in place such as bypass walking route, where you must wait for the light to turn to green before you cross the road, same for the traffic light and do you want to tell me they don’t have Africans or Nigerians driving or walking on these roads, it is because they have a working system and everyone of us is abiding by that. Lastly, I was in your shoes last year but when I left the country that’s when I realized we still have a long way to go. God Bless Nigeria.

NOTE: when you are talking about we citizens are also spoiling the country, please can you please answer this question; our Nigerian airways that have gone down the rail, are we the citizens the cause of that also?

Bro, the attitude of citizens towards government owned establishment is not good. We don't treat government owned business like we will treat our own. Hence there will be mismanagement. This cuts across all sectors not just aviation. There's no present leader who wasn't part of the citizen before he or she got elected into political position. If a leader spends time in office and doesn't embezzle money, it's still his people that will mock him for being foolish. No one expects you to hold political position and remain the same.

And that’s the reason i said if we have a good system that is working and they strictly enforce it, then at the end citizens won’t have any other choice than to abide. Nepotism is the common practice in our government owned business, so why will it grow when they keep giving job to people who do not deserve it. They should create a working system, enforce it and then see what happens. Rwanda, despite their political crisis 20 years ago, she is now taking the picture of how a working-system country should be. The Dubai we re even talking about was changed by a man which his name can never be forgotten in the history of UAE. I pray we find a man like that in our dear country.

Well said bro, but Nepotism is everywhere, if not two Bushes would not rule America. That man can be me or you but since you are not on ground, I have a better chance than you.

Kai....I just read from page 1 to this page in a few minutes and cant help but realise that the average Nigerian has been condemned to a life of hopelessness, a complex life of uncertainty, fear and insecurity. The quality of his life is at the mercy of the mistakes and excesses, actions and inactions of the political class.

The truth is that Nigeria has never really been a country, there has never been that necessary national cohesive force that would normally birth patriotic tendencies of any sought, be it ethnic, religious, political, a common history or ideology. Sometimes I wonder what Nigerians mean when they say they are patriotic citizens! with all the hate, bitterness, ethic and class profiling in this country! wait first, what is usually on the minds of the Nigerian soldiers when they breath their last breath in ultimate sacrifice for the country? Is it thoughts of pride and confidence in a system that guarantees the livelihoods of their kids and loved ones?

Bros, walahi we have been blinded both by hunger and a dead educational system. I GIVE UP ON NIGERIA!! to think that me, a graduate of four years can not identify the north on the compass of my life or guarantee the welfare or safety of my unborn kids sickens me, and some hypocritical elements probably above 25 in their fathers house or squatting with a friend comes online( with his free 10mb MTN bundle bonus) to defend a system that failed even before their fathers were born! While offline, they grumble and whine why NPOWER stipends have not been paid...or hope and pray there BET9JA tickets don't "cut" but won't mind borrowing credit from MTN to preach the gospel of hope!!

Me am tired, I hold a first degree in geology and would appreciate recommendations for a cheap school for MSC in the USA. Have about 10k dollars at the moment, and honestly would not mind doing dishes or driving for uber to supplement while at this.
Thanks

Good morning everyone.

I'm here again to share my thoughts with you. So, I woke up to news of a cousin of mine who had a baby today. Great news, right? No one knew she was pregnant until today when she announced her baby's birth. Now let me tell you the story before today.

She had a daughter before marrying her husband. She had 2 more kids with her husband, all daughters. All these kids were through surgery. They aren't doing well financially. In fact, she complains everyday about how things are horrible in their family financially. The husband kept pressuring her for a son. So... she succumbed to getting pregnant again and feared what the family would think/say so she didn't tell anyone. Guess what? She just had another daughter.

I can't even imagine what she's going through right now. It's 2018! People are still going about the "you must give me a son" thingy. It's not a crime to want a son, I don't care but why must the woman be the one to suffer for things like that? She's married. Suppose her husband cheats on her and the other woman gives him a son, what is going to protect my cousin in the event this man and his family try to frustrate or chase her out?

These are the things that piss me the hell off and get me mad when people are talking about "stay here and make your money". Everything is not money. If my cousin was here, she'd be protected by law against all this madness. If she says NO MORE KIDS, NO MORE KIDS! I wouldn't worry one bit. Now, she has 4 daughters, only God knows the state her health is in and how happy she is.

I'm so mad today, it's a shame how backward Nigeria still is.

Your aunty or sister married a local man. Don't generalize its a Nigerian thing. It should be, it's a local people's thing. Some of us have no son and we are not bothered a bit.

You read what I wrote and all you could say about it was "your aunty or sister married a local man, don't generalize"? May God give me the strength to cope with people like you. How many times did I use the word "cousin"? You still couldn't remember that piece of information because you wanted to attack what you read so bad.

I narrated a particular story and asked what was in place in the Nigerian system to protect someone in her case and your response is "some of us are not bothered a bit"?

So if she came to you narrating this story, and telling you about her fears, you'd tell her "it's a local man thing" and ask her to go deal with it? The teenage girls being married off to old men in the north is also a northern men thing and should be left to deal with their mess?

Smh! Thank God I left Nigeria for all of you. Lol.

Hmmmm, when I read some stuffs from you at times,I just shake my head and smile but seriously can you tell me which crime he has committed or which law(s) he has broken by desiring a son??If there's such laws that protect the woman in the US,who told you such laws don't exist in Nig?..besides,how are you sure it wasn't the woman herself longing to have a son so as to prevent the man from having another wife or getting someone else pregnant outside??,it may just be a dummy sold to you to make the man look bad.
Also, who told you it's a Nigerian thing??..the way you generalize at times ehn..Fyi,this is just an individual thing and it has nothing to do with where you come from.my uncle in Georgia has 5boys instead of 2kids he planned because his wife wanted a female child at all cost, they ended up with 5 until they ended up adopting a girl somewhere.these are people working as diplomats.
I assume you are not married yet,so your prospective suitors are already seeing how you plan to run your family "by the law".

I'm still wondering about this OP, is it possible that she's depressed or what? Because something happens in your cousin's house means all Nigerians are guilty, and this is someone that claims to be a master degree holder who graduated in US grin
My own 2nd cousin has seven boys. They keep trying for a girl without success. So what if your cousin wants a boy because she's insecure, dont you have enough issues in your own life to focus on? I'm not usually harsh with ladies but this is getting ridiculous. As an educated person, tell your cousin to start acquiring assets in her kid's name. That's all, secure their future. Any man can leave you if he wants whether you sacrifice for him or not, you can't hold a man down for any reason except he wants it or you go supernatural.

EMMAACHILE:

Your aunty or sister married a local man. Don't generalize its a Nigerian thing. It should be, it's a local people's thing. Some of us have no son and we are not bothered a bit.

The "local" people are the majority in Nigeria

You know that

As if all their Uncles in Nigeria made it big and large.

Lol.
If you hear dem talk you go confuse ooo. In Tu babas voice.

It's a shame that people claim to be learned but I still have to come back and explain simple things after I post. Is it so difficult to comprehend things? At no point in time did I say all Nigerians think like my cousin's husband.

I explained my cousin's situation, and expressed my fears and asked that in the event that things went south in her marriage, what would protect her from crazy relatives? How did everyone seem to miss that important part/question?

I made it clear he's free to want a son, and said I didn't have a problem with it. One's response was to tell me about someone with 5 kids. What's the relevance? They compromised in their situation, so... end of story. Another one said he has no problem with daughters, good for you.

Empathy is lost on some people. Tell them there's suffering in Borno or Ebonyi, they'd tell you about the paradise in Abuja or Ikoyi. So? Does that nullify the situation in Borno or Ebonyi? I made it clear this woman has had all her babies through surgery and is obviously concerned and not interested in having more.

I'm depressed? I'm sending suitors away because I won't settle for less? Lmao.

EDIT Learn how to focus on the information that's provided and don't express ignorance by assuming things out of nowhere. "What if she's insecure, wants a son at all costs to keep her husband/stop him from cheating and trying to make her husband look bad?". Lmao!

Funny how you had everything to say BUT failed to address the question of what protects her from the crazy situation.

thumbs up.....love the way you buttress your points..

at least....of all things you've listed out....I've come to the realization that without a proper working system in a country.....would saying "there's no hope" be an overstatement?

a WORKING system
a WORKING system

Why should you even settle for less? Set your standard as high as you want to, wo/man.
Too many whack minds in Nigeria. I have always said it;I'm not one of them. I don't belong there.

....
When you make vague statements, you would expect people to take different positions from you, there are many angles to every twists, all cannot sleep and face one direction.sometimes I wonder if you understand your own writings at times..you gave an instance and ended with Nigeria because it was your focus of attack.
I asked simple question, what law(s) do you think should be in place to protect her from the "crazy situation" that are readily available in the US but not in Nigeria??.what is the "crazy situation" here??.
Thought you brought it up for discussion.
