Hello Everyone, I am looking to do my masters in US. I am going through UKEAS, I have IELTS of 7.0, UKEAS was able to secure admission for me in George Mason University but its a "Pathway program" called INTO George Mason University. My question is a) Must i go through this pathway program, why not the masters proper. b) Is it a good idea to take up the admission?

Don't go through the Pathway program. I got my admission through UKEAS but it's direct MBA. Pointpark University. You can try Point Park too also, There are other schools that will give you admission with your IELTS score. City University of Seattle, and Park University will also give you admission. Central Michigan University as well. The money you will spend during that pathway will be enough for you to pay your MBA tuition

Please everyone I have an unusual request. I need to pay for my evaluation urgently and I have no money. I was working on another country study visa and it didn't work out. I need to do express evaluation because it's quite urgent and when converted to naira, I honestly cannot afford it now. It is over 300Usd. I don't mind you paying for the evaluation yourself. Believe me, money is not a problem for my family as the they are going to pay for my schooling and everything. My own is to do the application process myself. The problem is that when my previous visa application failed, they told me to forget about going abroad at all, but I don't want to. The previous application I did disstabilized me financially and I haven't fully recovered. I can't turn to family to help with application fees because they will not answer. I actually can afford to pay back half of this money by 1st week of July. I need to get it done by this new week

VO: What other schools did you apply to ?
ME: I applied to university of kansas, Kansas state university, Bowling green state University and East tennesse state University

VO: What research work will you be doing?
ME: I will be working on data mining to aid faster response to disaster recovery

She is always eager to help people, May all your wishes come true. I will advise people going for interview not to present any document to the VO unless it is asked. I am wishing everyone preparing for their interview all the best.

Everything was just God’s grace and favor. I saw the notorious black lady doing what she does best. There was this other white lady with a squeezed face dishing out blues and administrative processing ( flight tickets that are hot now I’ll now be waiting for two weeks). Anyways I did my interview at window 5, this Ankara wearing guy was the perfect mix of professional and chilled (leaning towards chilled). We greeted for like 10 secs and he didn’t ask me any technical questions. That SAT trick tipped the interview back to my favor and God just oversaw every every
Without further ado, here it is:

VO: Good morning
Me: hello good morning
VO: how are you?
Me: I’m fine, thank you. How was your night?
VO: it was fine thanks for asking.
VO: where are you going?
Me: I’m going to University of South Florida for my undergraduate studies in chemical engineering
VO: oh for your baccalaureate in chem engr?
Me:yes for my undergraduate studies in chemical engineering (lol I was too nervous to abbreviate anything)
VO: did you apply to other schools?
Me:yes I applied to three others: New Jersey institute of technology, Georgia Southern University and Cleveland State University.
VO: How many did you get admitted to?
Me: Just USF. Their admission decision came early and since it was my top choice I didn’t continue with the rest. *i was so nervous when I said this but it was the truth so I didn’t stutter*
VO: what’s your highest degree
Me: my high school degree
VO: when did you leave? * as if he didn’t already know*
Me: 2014
VO: so what have you been doing since then? *acting all concerned*
Me: I took JAMB twice then I got provisional admission into UI to study chemical engineering but I deferred it to take care of my dad when he was hospitalized and his leg was amputated. It was during this period I prepared for my SAT and I got a very good score. *this last line was very pivotal and it shed light on my strongest attributes*
VO:What were your scores?
Me:I had 1300, 680 in verbal, 620 in math and 6/8 in essay
VO: *nodding his head while typing* who is your sponsor
Me: *feeling the strength of the blek pentha returning* my mom
VO: what does she do?
Me: she is a deputy director in the ministry of defense and also runs a successful clothing business. She currently has 3 stores here in Lagos.
VO: do you have a bank statement
Me: *gives it to him*
VO:checked it for a while then gave it back to me saying the magic words...I wanted to concentrate on the words he said afterwards but I just couldn’t. I was too happy.

This platform was incredibly helpful and I need to thank tolatof for taking time out of work to help, for the mock interviews, the corrections and for giving me that SAT trick

Congrats man.

Don't just tell him the school and labs are highly ranked, but that the faculty have research interests that best fit your interests. School ranking is secondary in PhD, so they say, not my personal view though.

VO: What other schools did you apply to ?
ME: I applied to university of kansas, Kansas state university, Bowling green state University and East tennesse state University

Your scores are good but not eXceLLent (Although I believe that there's little correlation between GRE and grad school capability/intelligence). It's better you say the university finds your holistic profile outstanding among other applicants and offered you a merit-based funding.

VO: I will be approving your visa.

Thanks. I have already done my interview. I was about to tell him about how my research interest aligns with the recent research in the school before he asked another question. It was also similar for the question 'why the school is funding me'.

OPINION: I think you have done the right thing by mailing MTSU and you have been told to apply. Go ahead and apply with an unofficial transcript as stated by the school or better still if you can get a WES evaluated transcript then go ahead and apply with that.
I will also advice to keep in touch with the GRAD CORD or ADMISSION OFFICERS at MTSU.

Goodluck.

Bro if they said unofficial, that's what you should give them ooo. There was once a school that tossed my transcript one side cause I sent in sealed transcript.

Unbelievable but true!!
Just do as they say.

Hello bro,

I dont mean to be a sadist, but unless i don't know how the WES evaluation is done or the WES evaluation is done with the last few semesters of your graduate programme, i doubt a 2.68CGP on a 5 point scale will translate into 2.98 on a 4 point scale.

Notwithstanding, if the school accepts unofficial transcripts, i think it will better you submit the actual unofficial transcript and not the WES evaluated one so that they dont delay your application review.

Hello wonderful gurus on Nairaland. Please I need your help on my proposed transcript.

Where are you going in the US?

I am going to Utah Valley University For a Bachelor's Degree In Economics.

How Did You Hear About The School?

I first heard about the school from my companion while we were both serving on a mission for my church (Church name). He spoke greatly about the school. I also did intense research on the school by searching through Google. I read reviews from current and old students on the school's Facebook page and I also watched numerous videos on the school's YouTube channel.

How Many Schools Did You Apply To.

3 Schools

Mention them.

Utah Valley University, University of Wyoming and West Virginia State University.

Why Utah Valley?

Utah valley university has a 22:1 student to faculty ratio which means faculty members can spend more time working individually with students. Utah valley has a curriculum that is very comprehensive and relevant to modern economic realities. In addition, faculty at the university are respectable in their respective areas of specialization and would be good mentors for me to learn from.

WHY ECONOMICS?

Nigeria as a developing economy needs a lot of well versed economists who are in touch with modern economic theories. My study in the US will allow me to learn from the best faculty with versed knowledge of their field and in the largest economy in the world. My study will help me learn enough from them so that I can return to Nigeria and be instrumental to developing and formulating viable economic policies.

As a writer for blogs and news websites in Nigeria, a well grounded knowledge in economics will help me broaden my writing abilities and this means more writing jobs will come my way when I return to Nigeria.

Lastly, a degree in Economics especially from an American university, will give me an upper hand in terms of job searches in Nigeria. I could work in the bank, I could work for the Nigerian government and any company or organization that needs economists in the country.

Did you take any standardized test?

The school didn't require any standardized test as my Waec result was good enough.

Why USA?

it's a known fact that USA has one of the best education systems and It has a culture that embraces intellectualism and academic freedom.

Who is sponsoring you?

My Dad

What does he do?

He owns a security company and he is into importation business as well.
