Lool...thanks for putting a genuine smile on my face bruv, Thank you for that smiley
you know the most interesting things about your stories, they are so unpredictable, when you think you can predict it BOOM!!!! another beautiful twist, it just makes it very catchy and interesting. you are the best man everyone can see that, if that delayed diagnosis was a movie it could have carried an Oscar

"So agent Sparrow....who do you work for?" Dagnet asked as she followed the mysterious man down the hallway.

"That's on a need to know basis ma'am...we need to get out of here fast"

"No...no...no....I need to speak to the owner first...mr Amunike jr."

Agent sparrow turned on her so fast that she almost ran into him.
"Trust me, now is not the time...not now, you can't beat him on his turf...take it from me"

A young woman exited one of the rooms up ahead. She seemed confused and staggered for some seconds before she finally got her bearings and started towards them.
When she came closer Dagnet recognized her as the nude woman from the night before. She was decently dressed now and almost unrecognizable in the thick cotton robe.

"What's going on....sensei...I heard gunshots..." her eyes widened as she saw the assault rifle in his hands. she looked so scared that Dagnet almost assured her they weren't going to kill her. However the lady gave a short shriek and hurried into a nearby room.
they ignored her and continued walking.

They saw the jeep parked on the sidewalk.
Dagnet could make out the driver's form. He was sitting patiently, smoking a ciggarette.

"there's one of them"
She pulled Sparrow's shirt tail and pointed.

"Wait here" he whispered.

"please don't kill him...maybe he can tell us who sent them" she urged the mysterious man as he moved slowly towards the jeep.

The sight of a gun is very powerful. A loaded gun is worth a thousand threats and agent Sparrow didn't need to utter any threat to the bouncer at the entrance. The gun in his hand was sufficient enough. The man unhooked the velvet rope and let him through without a word.

Sparrow began to doubt he would be able to fulfill Dagnet's request. For one, the gunman behind the wheel was aware of his approach and staring at him funny. He increased his pace but still didn't point the gun at the man. That would mean he was showing his hand as an attacker and he didn't want that yet...
His decision paid off when the gunman opened the door and got down making himself a bigger and better target.
"Who the hell are you?" he barked raising his gun

Agent Sparrow pulled the trigger before the man could train the gun on him.

"Hello?"

"Hello, agent Tonye?"

"Yes...sir, where are you sir?"

"i'm still on the move....any news yet?"

"well sir....I just got off the phone with your son. It seems she sent him a message not long ago with instructions for a meeting"

"here in Benue?"

"no sir, Rex said the venue is in Lagos"

"hmmmm..."

"it appears she's trying to throw us off her track sah, maybe she has a partner in Lagos" Tonye reasoned.

"No....no...I think she's in this alone. One of the neighbours in that address saw her hurry off and although she's not hundred percent certain...she thinks she saw her with a baby and travelling bag. I think she's in Lagos truly"

"oh my God....good Lord....Jesus Christ..." Tonye was simply at a loss for words.

"Call on him Tonye....call every name he has and pray he answers" Alli no joy said sadly.

::::::::::::::::::

"Instead of the baby formula, I can boil yam very soft and mash it with butter....I'm sure the baby will like that" Christie said.

The baby was still in her arms but fast asleep now and it was clear most of her earlier tears were as a result of hunger.
Even she herself was hungry and she was a grown up.

"Just stick with the s.m.a gold Christie....you know what do what you want" she actually wouldn't mind a little yam herself as a matter of fact she could almost taste the melting butter on her tongue.

"So are you certain he's going to decipher the code and know the location?" Christie called out from the room as she laid the sleeping child on the bed.

"He has too..Rex is smart..." she was 100% sure he was going to be there by midnight.

Christie reentered the parlour "I still don't think the meeting is necessary..why not just call or send a message even?"

"That is so impersonal....I need to see the fear in his eyes, surely you understand that"

"yes dear....but what if he tries to set a trap and capture you"

"Then his daughter is dead" she said calmly

"Sister-"

"promise me Christie...if anything happens you do what you have to...promise me?" she looked at the younger woman with searching eyes and saw what she sought. The painful regret which meant the baby would be killed if it came down to it.

She brought out her phone. "Let me make sure he knows we're not playing games"

Last instruction: Hole in the wall, 12 midnight, you come alone or she dies...

She hit send.

Buzz was thirsty, he was hungry, he was tired, he was uncomfortable. His whole body ached and he couldn't feel the other body parts that didn't.
He remained strapped in the chair watching Tonye as she paced the house making one call after another and thinking loud when she wasn't on the phone.

"What is her end game? What are you peoiple playing at? What does she want....is it money?" Tonye asked "Is it revenge? if it is, revenge for what? What could that innocent girl have done to deserve this? Is she really in Lagos or she's just trying to throw us off?"

Buzz couldn't answer any question even if he wanted to. The smelling sock was still in his mouth for one and it had taken all his control to stop the vomit threatening to spill out. That would mean certain death and choking on one's vomit was a very horrible and disgusting way to die.
So he tried not to think of the torn, bacteria filled sock his partner probably hadn't washed in ages stuffed in his mouth and instead he glared at Tonye trying to convey the smirk with his eyes alone.

Tonye continued pacing the apartment. She could sense the bastard was smiling and she fought the urge to remove the sock and hear what he had to say or shove it down his throat fully.
She was just confused. What exactly did Fome want?
Her phone rang as if in reply and when it continued ringing even after she pressed the green button she realized it wasn't her phone ringing but Buzz's phone. She rushed to the counter and answered the phone.

"Buzz"

"Fome?"

"Why are you still with this phone? I thought I told you to release him....do you want me to harm the little girl?" The voice was cold and bitter.

"No please....Buzz is not here against his will....we're just talking....please let me talk to Emma"

"She's sleeping...now put Buzz on the phone"

Tonye rubbed her tired eyes. She was between the proverbial rock and a hard place. She couldn't refuse the request yet she couldn't let Buzz talk to her, goodness knows what he would say and the woman sounded extremely unstable. Her eyes met Utebo's and the older woman gestured for the phone.

Tonye made up her mind. maybe she could get her to stay on the line long enough for a trace.
"Fome....there's someone here that wants to talk to you first..."

"are you mad? I said you should give the phone to-"

Tonye handed the phone to Rex's elder sister and immediately speed dialled another number on her phone.

Utebo was saying "Fome, its me....I thought we were friends...you know we all loved you, all of us..whatever Rex did to you, please I beg you..."

Tonye cursed in disbelief as the phone rang without reply. where on earth was Short Sam?
He finally picked the call during the redial and he sounded out of breath. "Hello?"

"S.s....I need you to trace a call in progress immediately...the phone is in this house I need to know where the call is coming from...please be quick"

She began to hear the musical sound of his fingers stroking the keyboard. "I was even going to call you...I did some digging into the counselor's virtual life...he maintains contact with a strange fellow...one first minister alias and most of the orders he filters down to the shadow is gotten from him. Also I keep coming across somekind of cult or brotherhood...I don't know for sure, but the only reference I have is from a mail between the counselor and the minister. The minister mentions something about the power's that be not being pleased or something like that..." Short Sam rambled on as he worked.

"S.s please focus..I need that trace now more than anything right this moment" but as the words left her mouth utebo was already shouting "Hello...hello....are you there? hello?"

:::::::::::::::::

Rex
"Sir it is me....kirsten...agent Tonye's assistant. I'm here in the hospital with your wife and mother and they would love to talk to you"

My head cleared immediately "oh God bless you...please give them the phone"
The next second I was hearing my mother's heavenly voice "Rex?"

"Oh mama....mama how are you?"

"are you okay Rex...they said you were in the hospital?"

"i'm fine mama...how is Olivia?"

"here talk to her..." there was some shuffling noise then I heard my wife's voice "Rex? hello"

She sounded weak, tired and defeated but it still felt good just to hear her voice.

"Olivia....I'm so sorry...i'm sorry" I couldn't stop the tears from flowing "I'm going to make it right Olivia...I'm going to fix this I promise"

"Rex, I need you....I need you to bring Emma and come home"

And that minute I swore to myself that failure wasn't an option. I was going to bring my baby home.
I wasn't even going to die trying. I was going to do it!

:::::::::::::::::::

Time: 09:11pm.

The very first date I had with Fome was quite memorable. It was the first time we were outside the school premises and I remember worrying and fretting and even borrowing some money from friends just so that the date could be perfect.
And it had been. The food had been good and the restaurant although small had been romantic that night. It had quickly become our spot.
It had also been the very place I had seen Mona and the old crooner making whatever plans when the chief had first put the hit on Fome two years ago. Still I couldn't help but feel I was taking a big risk. What if I was wrong? what if it was somewhere else...like the hotel?
The hole in the wall....there was a code in the phrase...something I was missing and the very fact that she had drilled a hole in the wall and executed the shadow or should I say the fake shadow through it had to have some kind of meaning...or did it??

The truth was as midnight drew closer my doubts grew louder. I had promised my wife that I was bringing our daughter home and failure wasn't an option.
I had to trust Bami and Andy who were on their way to the hotel and hope that if they were right about the hotel being the location, they'd make the right choices.
But the most recent message I had received meant that if they were right and the hotel was the location then my daughter was going to be killed....
Oh God...
I swung my feet to the floor and forced myself to stand. The tray of drugs the nurse had brought remained on the table. There was no way I was getting drugged by mistake again. No way! i'll manage the pain instead.

I held my breath when my phone rang, wondering if I would ever answer my phone normally ever again.

"hello boy....Tonye told me everything..stay strong...I believe she's the one you would be seeing by midnight...I don't think she's still in Benue"

"dad....oh dad I'm just confused.."

"Don't worry boy...everything is going to be fine....if there's anything you need from this end please just let us know"

"hmmmm.."

"what is it boy?"

"I don't know...its probably nothing...please I want you to find out about any report about a hole in a wall...maybe figuratively speaking or maybe a real hole...I don't really understand myself but there's something important to it I can feel it"

"No worries son....if there's any information on the street, I'll find it'

:::::::::::::::::::::

"Oh God, what's going on now.....how did the cops get here?!" Andy exclaimed in dismay

"The thing is she may start thinking Rex is the one that called the police...remember the earlier bomb blast in Benue" Bami said. His words were not 100% audible. His 'S' still sounded more like a hiss but Andy could understand him well enough.

They were parked outside serenity suites but to their dismay there were police cars there already. There was a heavy police presence and if this was indeed the hole in the wall that meant trouble. Big trouble.

"there's still time...let's talk to the police and get them to clear out of here...its not too late" Andy suggested

Bami agreed. He couldn't allow them let go of hope. No matter how little they had to hope for the best.

They got down and approached a plain clothes officer who was questioning a uniformed security guard.
The guard was sweating profusely.
"...to tell me you didn't hear any gunshot or see any one but just saw the clerk dead in the lobby?" The man glanced at them as they approached and frowned "What are you doing here...this place is a crime scene and out of bounds...."

A minute later he was explaining everything that had happened after BROTA brass shields and badges had been shoved under his nose.

"The two men are dead...shot execution style...once in the face then twice in the chest...the coroner says the clerk was shot in the chest after some minutes which means...the killer killed him first, shot him in the face.....went upstairs to kill the manager and came back to shoot him in the chest"

Bami and Andy looked at each other. "was there any hole in the wall?" Andy asked

"no...not at all"

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I dropped down on my palms and very slowly and painfully managed to do 3 pushups. However it was all in vain when I couldn't get up and had to rely on Jimoh to help me to my feet.

"Jimoh what's the time now?" I asked my assistant

"Its past ten sir..."

"well take the car keys...its time to go"

"Should I tell the doctor sir?"

"no...no! the same way Bami left this hospital, I'm going to stand up and walk out of here"

"Well I hope you would wait a bit first"
a female voice announced.

I craned my neck searching for the source and as Jimoh helped me to my feet the detective Dagnet entered the room. She was accompanied by a a man who reminded me of a hippy with his pony tail and studded earlobes.
"Detective" I said in greeting

"No....not detective...just Dagnet now" she corrected.

She was different. There was something different about her. This was not the detective who had fired me with one annoying question after the other. There was a totally different vibe about her now. A kind of pure energy and her partner radiated it in exponentials

"What's happening? What's going on?" I asked confused

"Rex...meet agent Sparrow...I believe he may have some useful information about your daughter's kidnapper"

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Dad its late...you only just got home not long ago and you're heading out again?" Utebo followed her father round the house as he searched for his car keys.

"I have to....Rex needs me"

"But dad at least rest a bit....by tomorrow-"

"Rest ke?! When Emma needed me the most I was sleeping...now I can't close my eyes again until she is safe and sound. For God's sake where's this bloody car keys?"

He finally found the car keys on the dining table and he observed the betrayer who had been in and out of consciousness all day.
When Tonye told him about the phone call and the kidnapper's request that they release him, Alli had shouted 'GOD FORBID....OVER MY DEAD BODY!'
And he meant every word.

Now he didn't want to leave the man in the house again. Not in the same house with his daughter and grand children. Even though a skilled agent was present and the man was basically disabled, he didn't want to leave the man behind. Not when Fome was calling and making demands for his safety.

He continued watching the man as he dozed on. A muffled clogged sound coming from his throat with every half breath he took as a result of the sock in his mouth.

Finally when Alli no joy had had enough, he woke him up with a resounding slap that sounded like a gunshot.

"Wake up princess...Its time to go to the streets....what is the hole in the wall..you're gonna lead me to it"

Buzz's respiration speed trippled when the slap woke him up. He stared at Alli with wide eyes as his heart began beating wildly.
If his worst nightmare had a name, it was Alli no joy.
