Last year, immediately after camp in Isi-Emure, Ekiti state, I had a friend who accommodated me in his Msc apartment in ABUAD, meanwhile I was posted to a firm about #300 from ABUAD. It is one of the biggest firm in Ado-ekiti. The manager kept telling me to come back tomorrow for about four days with my #19,800 being at the lowest ebb. Everything was finally settled one thursdayevening around 5:30 p.m. And I being a person who doesn't like bugging people, I decided it was time to leave Ado-ekiti that night and head back to south-south.

I boarded a bus to Akure, and got to Akure by around 7:30 p.m because of bad road. When I got to Akure, I boarded another bus to Benin city. We arrived Benin by 11:00 p.m, and all the while I was still wearing my NYSC cap. The bus stopped at one Filling station where they were "loading" Onitsha and Enugu and it was already 11:30 p.m then, when one man saw me going to board the bus to Onitsha, he said, "Corper wey you dey go this night?'', I told him I'm going to South-south, he then advised that if I don't have cash to lodge in a hotel that night, I should just hang around there till day break that the place is always busy at night. He further said that the car I wanted to board may not take me to my destination and may be a ritualist car. Unlike me, I heeded to the advise. I stayed there till 5 a.m without blinking an eye, thank God for my smart phone that year. The next morning, I just washed my face, brushed my teeth and boarded a bus to Calabar.

I have been stranded on countless occasion since I am always travelling long distances but there is this one I can never forget.

was travelling to Jos from Owerri after my exams with my friend living in Jos too.
After paying my transport fare, I only had small change left on me. left Owerri around 7:30am.
The journey was going on smoothly until just after akwanga in Nassarawa state, right in the middle of a small forest there our vehicle got spoilt. The time was around 4:30pm then. There was no single network coverage there, no single building just bushes.

The driver decided to go back to akwanga to get a mechanic. We were 7 in the vehicle excluding the driver. We waited in that bush till around 6pm no sign of the driver. The other passengers saw an empty car and hopped in at 1k5 per person, leaving only myself and my friend. I had nothing on me but my friend had 1k .

Time was around 7pm, no sign of the driver yet, only Fulani heardsmen passing occasionally with their cows. Everywhere was already dark and we were just sitting ducks there. We started waiving down vehicles shouting Jos, some would stop but would refuse 1k for the two of us. We were already planning how we were going into the bush to hide for the night when a man stopped we begged him, he was skeptical at first but agreed when he notice we were from the same tribe.
His jeep was even faulty so we were just strolling with the car.

That day was scarry as f*ck, I can't forget it. reached Jos around 12 am.
The next morning I stormed the park in Jos looking for the driver, I was ready to deal with him mercilessly. They hid him and were begging me.

moral lesson:
If possible, never travel without extra money. I learnt the hard way.
Thank God for that my friend cos if not for his 1k, I would have slept in that bush.

Around 2005, I was travelling from Kaduna to PHC with ABC transport. When we got to lokoja, the bus left me while I was attending the call to nature. I was dumbfounded, didn't know what to do. When I started crying and explaining to some policemen, they directed me to ABC office in lokoja. I laid my complaints and the manager told me to wait for another bus coming from Abuja but will only stop at enugu. When the bus arrived I boarded it and told the manager to give me transport to phc from enugu. He gave me 2k and I was happy. When we got to enugu, I entered phc bound bus. Since I had enough with me I paid for two sits and occupied the front sit. Upon reaching phc I went straight to ABC office and demanded to see the manager. I told him I was the passenger that was left behind in lokoja and he pleaded with that he was sorry bla bla bla. I told him I had no money and he gave me 3k. I was so happy. I went home and told my parents what happened they were surprised I handled it on my own without calling them.

It was last week Monday in Lagos o.

I received a call from my wife that Oshodi-Iyana ipaja road has blocked that if I love myself I should keep my car in office and take public bus to avoid stress and vehicle overheat. That was around 5pm while it was raining in Isolo.

I have #1500 on me and I'm going to Ijoko Ogun state,I dropped my car in office and I take a car from iyana isolo to Oshodi which is just #100 , when I get to Oshodi I couldn't find tollgate or ssngo motor that was the Genesis of my predicament o.Then one LT(yellow bus) came and called tollgate #1000 that was around 6pm, on a normal day tollgate is #300, I refused to board the bus thinking cheaper one will come I stay for another one hour and no motor colame to the busstop I have no choice than to take bike and the bike man says its #2000 I asked the bike man if I can do transfer for him he said no problem but I need to do it now cos he won't want me to delay him when we get to tollgate .

I did the transfer to his account but me and him didn't see the alert to be sure the transaction is successful we both keep waited till we reach Tollgate still the same, I have no choice to than to do another transfer of #2000 that was around 11pm o.This time he receives the alert instantly and he told me it has enter but me didn't receive any debit alert, I just tell him thank u for his patience and I say goodbye to him. It was when I reach home around 12am that one alert came in to my phone and I checked immediately only for me to discover that it was actually 4 alerts ...debit of #2000 twice and debit of VAT+commission twice. That means pay #4,100 to transport myself from oshodi to tollgate if i knew i would have boarded it for #1k Infact its a very bad experience for me

Hahaha. How would you do transfer 2 times. Sms alert sometimes delay. It's normal. Damn... quite a bad one

Went to write an exam in Abuja (NASS) and left for Akure very late. In fact there was no bus but after a very long search, one came filled with all manner of humans and animals. The bus was stinking of stench but 9pm wasn't a time to select a bus. Now the ish was that the driver was trying to outdo James Bond in a not so sound bus. It was really scary but we were hopeful. When we got to Akure, I was the last passenger to alight from the vehicle at around 1am; all I could see was an empty town with heavy police presence. The bus driver made a u-turn and drove back. When I was trekking down, I noticed a corpse lying on the floor, apparently there was a bloody riot which claimed lives. Thankfully, I wasn't harassed by the police but after a long trek of about 3 km, I saw a church having their vigil. I crashed in there with my load, got a sit at the back, lay head on the sit in front and slept till 5am. Not even the Pastors nor the Ushers woke me up

The biggest one was last year August when I had to leave Abj back to Ib. Having been there for more than 3 weeks roaming all the nook and cranny of Dutse, Ushafa and Kubwa in search of job or even work.
Sun and hunger showed me hell, to the extent I was tempted to burgle.

Long story short, I made up my mind that at least 'ti iwaju o ba se lo eyin a se pada si' I told myself I must get to Ib that Sunday. I trekked from Dutse-Alh to Deidei, got there around 1pm then lurked around. I was lucky I saw one trailer manned by Yoruba guys they were heading to Lag. I told the motor boy my predicament and my destination, he said if I could stay in the open back I should enter, I did.
We got to Gwagwalada then the truck broke down, that was around 6:30pm I wanted to cry tears didn't come.

I was starving nothing has entered my mouth that day. 8pm I went to one Maishai, I begged him to buy my phone Nokia torchlight, he bought it #1800 then I ate bread nd tea #100 from
Still in Gwagwa 10pm I went to those luxurious bus they said Ib standing is 4k I begged the man he said I should pay 3k.
I later met one young aboki of my age, he was my Messiah he slammed me 5h. I joined another luxurious bus they accepted 2k for standing, we were jam-packed I almost suffocated before we finally took off minutes before midnight. we were so squeezed that there was no space to bend or squirt, talkless of sitting on the floor.

We got to Akure around 9am, after plenty of shoutings, abuse and even curses the driver finally pulled over. We descended to empty our bladders and those that weren't like me bought water, snacks and all sort then we got back on.
Finally we got to Iwo road, Ibadan 11:15am and I alighted then find my way.

Till date, that 12hours sojourn was the toughest moments of my entire two and half decades on this earth.
I pray never to be so grounded again in life.

Nigerians have been traumatized.
It's time for us to wake up and look beyond these recycled politicians with nothing new to offer.

I never really understood what PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) meant till I left visited a foreign country for the first time.

My first time out of the country was to Doha. I woke up in the middle of the night to charge my phone and iron my clothes because I feared that power would go off.

When I was in U.S for work, I drove from Houston to Dallas around 2am. I was so afraid of getting attacked by highway robbers that I kept peering into the thick bushes looking for any sign of unusual movement. I arrived Dallas around 5 am without any harm befalling me.

I can't even stay out late in Nigeria except in some parts of Lagos and some parts of Abuja.

Nigerians have been treated so unfairly. All my years in Nigeria, I have never ever ever expereiced a full week of constant electricity.

I have ever ever ever driven 20 km without potholes or some form of road hazard.

I have been robbed twice around Benin expressway.

Growing up, we were never attacked by armed robbers but my neighbours were robbed severally. I remember a young girl back then that was raped and robbed on her way back from school

My undergraduate years, my apartment was broken into and my room mate butchered like a chicken for resisting thieves. They carted away my electronics and valuable which wasn't worth up to 100k naira.

Through out my lifetime in Nigeria, nothing has gotten better. Not security, not roads, not electricity, not jobs creation.

My story is pretty much the life of the average Nigerian.

Nigerians wake up

Stay on the topic.

May God help Africa even if the developed societies actually helped themselves to get to where they are today. This happened during Benin election period 3 years ago. I was heading to Ogun for NYSC clearance from Owerri. I called my LI and told him to allow me come on Friday to do the clearance but he said I must come on that Thursday. I packed my bag on Wednesday and left early Thursday morning to Ogun. we got to Delta/Benin boundary around 10am and that was where we found out that the boundary between the 2 started had been blocked because of the election.
It was really heartless of the government but everyone heading to the Western part of the country from the East had to wait there till 6pm. When they allowed us to pass, the traffic jam the was massive. We eventually got to Ogun by past 12am. Everywhere was really dark. That's a police checkpoint at J4 Junction where I was meant to stop and I had planned to show the policemen stationed there that I was a corper so they'll let me pass the night with them. It was too dark I didn't know when we passed that junction and I didn't know anywhere around. We got to a junction and from the few structures I could see, I knew I had passed where I was meant to stop. We got to a junction and I could see a light at a shop. there were 3 people there. I asked the driver to stop me there. everyone on the bus asked me to wait till we get to Lagos so I can pass the night at d park but I refused.
They stopped there and I walked up to the people at the shop and asked a woman there if there is any hotel close by but she said the closest hotel is at ijebu ode, that I'll have to wait for a bus heading in that direction. I waited by the road for 20 minutes but no vehicle passed. I knew I had to find a place to spend the night. By this time frustration don hol me. I told myself that if that night was the day I was going to die, do be it.
I saw a Chisco transport luxury bus closeby and thanked God. I knew some buses stop to pass the night when it gets very late. atleast I would spend the night with them. I walked to the bus and knocked and a man looked out and asked who I was and I explained my predicament and showed him my NYSC ID card and he opened the door.
my happiness vanished when I entered and it turned out that the bus was abandoned, everything inside was tattered and there was 2 more men inside the bus. I was alarmed. these men might rob me here or even kill me and no one will know.
I had to think of a way out. I told one of the men that I wanted to pee. he opened the door and told me to hurry up.
I came down for the vehicle and while peeing I saw a light on a mast not far from there. Also saw a fat woman sitting outside. there was no other building closeby.
I had to think fast. I told the man that I had met the woman before I came to the bus and that she had asked me to come and inform her if I find a place to sleep.
he said no problem but I should hurry.
I walked to the woman and explained my predicament. she took pity on my and told me I could come spend the night in the small security house attached to the mast.
That was where I stayed till morning. couldn't even sleep

My first travel outta naija to Europe was in early spring. You know that kain thing wey you dey travel from our hot tropical heat, I just wear shirt and jeans with pams enter plane.

All my thick clothes were in the check-in luggage, and I had planned to buy jacket when I arrived. My dear, on landing, I was greeted by icy winds and unimaginable cold. To make matters worse, I couldn't log onto the airport Wi-Fi to see the train and bus schedule. Na so I take cab o. 50mins journey to my destination, I had to pay 3x what it would have cost me by train.

Yes I have been stranded while travelling to Kenya on a business trip. Rough experience as I had no knowledge of Bantu Swahili and was travelling through Africa . I would not wish that on my enemies.

mine happened in 2009 in Uyo after writing my post utme exam in uniuyo.....I went to a bus park (USA park) to buy my ticket and board a bus down to Lagos....on getting there, I decided to use an ATM close to the park to withdraw money which I'll use to pay for the ticket... when I got to the ATM, I inserted my card and try to withdraw money... immediately I was shown an error telling me that there's a network issue with my bank....I tried another ATM, the same network problem....I felt confused. I then thought to myself that if I ask someone to lend me some money, twill look like ama beggar...I had to trek from Uyo to abak (a journey of 45mins on car). when I nearly got to abak, I saw a friend who also came to write the same exam I came to write, on a bike....on seeing him, I was happy and thought ayaf seen a savior...I stopped him, explain my challenge to him and told him to help me with some money that can convey me back to my village, so as to continue my journey the next day. what I needed was 300.00, naso my guy gimme 30.00.... I was like, guy I need 3h, my guy say na wetin hin fit afford be dat....I fit mad....I just flash my momma, naso she call me....so I explained everything to her... so she directed to my uncle's shop close by....Na my uncle come hepmi....dat day can Neva be forgotten....

Abujabir24:
I like your case.
How old were you then
