He(angel) said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He(angel) said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. Qur’an.Surah Maryam 19:8-10.

Like for instance, Isa ibn Maryam(as) was expressly profiled by Allah that he was born without father but mother. In the case of nabi Zakaria, both parent were present but non-functional seductively. The ayah above was in response to his prayer that Allah could still make them produce. We can take nabi Ayyub(as) for instance. He was sick for long that one might think he would not make it but Allah restored him in second...something that would have took years at hospital to recover from. I hope you get my point?.

So far, i see no indication that nabi Yahya came from unknown background beyond his biological parents mentioned in the Quran. His birth was also miraculous because he was born of a barren mother and an aged father while Jesus was born of a virgin mother. They both came from women. Even if you explore intuitive shuyukh, the sufis, they said the same. Like Sheikh Sasili in his lecture titled "Story of Zakariya", he did not differ from this ayah.

original Arabic word used by Allah in the ayah is thurriyyatan (offspring or seed). Offspring by definition indicate biological son he requested for. Did i get you right this time?.

There's something I want to share. The story of Prophet Zakariya has had me thinking for some time. You know how he prayed for a "son" and was eventually blessed with Yahya... Peace be on them both.

My thought on the story is that He actually didn't pray for a biological offspring but more like for a successor, someone He'd groom to carry on with the religious duty of calling people after him, hence his making mention of the fact that his wife was barren, and then his asking for a sign after he was given the good news of Yahya.

Because I'm like "you prayed for a "son", you're told your request would be granted and you're now doubting and asking for a sign?" it doesn't quite add up for me.

First, it is clear from the Qur'an that Nabi Zakariyyah's request was a biological son who will inherit his position and responsibility in delivering Allah's message. That is, his request was a "successor son".

It is the dream and wish of every Prophet and messenger that his lineage continues in servitude to Allah. This is testified to in the case of Nabi Ibrahim.

Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 124:

And when his Lord tried Ibrahim with certain words, he fulfilled them. He said: Surely I will make you an Imam of men. Ibrahim said: And of my offspring? My covenant does not include the unjust, said He."



Second, Nabi Zakariyyah's question to God was not as a result of doubt. Never. All he wanted was reassurance of faith. Such a thing also happened to Nabi Ibrahim

Baqara: 260:

And [mention] when Abraham said, "My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead." [ Allah ] said, "Have you not believed?" He said, "Yes, but [I ask] only that my heart may be satisfied." [ Allah ] said, "Take four birds and commit them to yourself. Then [after slaughtering them] put on each hill a portion of them; then call them - they will come [flying] to you in haste. And know that Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise."


He simply want to know "how will God do it".

Dutch Government Faces Outcry over Reported Support for Syrian Rebels


The Dutch government faced a storm of protest from lawmakers on Monday after a news report said it supported a Syrian opposition group which Dutch prosecutors had labelled a "terrorist" organisation.


Parliamentarians demanded answers after the report aired by the national public broadcaster said the Netherlands gave "non-lethal assistance" (NLA) to 22 armed opposition groups battling Syrian government forces.


The television programme, which worked together with the respected Trouw newspaper, identified one group as Jabhat al-Shamiya, which it said had been supplied with pick-up trucks, uniforms and other equipment last year.


But at the same time, Dutch officials in the port city of Rotterdam were prosecuting a suspected militant for belonging to Jabhat al-Shamiya, which they labelled in court papers as a "Salafist and jihadist movement striving for a caliphate".


It was nothing more than a "criminal organisation with a terrorist aim", the prosecutors added in the court papers.


Jabhat al-Shamiya, also known as the Levant Front, is an umbrella group for Turkey-backed rebel fighters based in northern Syria. In 2016, Amnesty International accused it of carrying out summary executions and establishing courts that enforce a strict Islamic-based penal code.

Truth is, I thought about the Islamic year and I wondered why Muharram is taken as first month and not Rabbiul Awwal, since the Islamic year is reference to the Hijra. And from the little I know, Hijra was in Rabbiul Awwal and not Muharram.

Anyone else who knows the story should feel free to contribute to the discourse.
