One Mr Okeke reported an incident in his company on Twitter recently. On why a highly q individual was denied a dream opportunity.

Someone recently didn't get a job cos he was in possession of two phones worth over 200k but his last academic/professional certification was 4 years ago. Lead interviewer simply said "If he can't add value to himself, I don't see him adding value to this firm"

I find quite Funny but do you agree with the recruiter's decision. I feel the dude definitely find value in his phone, so the recruiter can't just assume that trash. What do you think?

The recruiter was only looking for an avenue to deny the applicant of the job.

Ability to add value to a firm is not hinged on the number of certification but rather your practical capabilities.

Certificate is nothing, but is so unfortunate that we place so much value on it here.

This ur submission is crass. You only reasoned from ur level. Do you know the company he went for interview? Or he should rather sell his 200k phones and start a business as some of you normally say.

He could be from a wealthy home. His Parents, Uncle, Aunt or even GF could buy him a phone. Not to mention side hustle. Must everyone be suspect??

I have met people that want jobs just to pass time, not as if they need it,.

Maybe that was what the interviewer saw, but some interviewers can be useless.

As funny as its seems, I see the point of the interviewer. If the applicant presents an MSc, there would probably be no comment of that sort.

Two things are involved in this interview

1. The interviewee is a proud guy. He shouldn't have gone to that interview with 2 phones.

2. The interviewer is a wicked guy. This type of guys will not waste time to give that job to a girl.

I still wonder at those insulting the interviewer. He may have not done well for the wrong reason: concluding that the candidate cannot add value, however, he was very on point to say the candidate hasn't added any value to himself yet he uses a 200k phone.

I don't even understand you people mind you for him to have been interviewed he must Have the basic requirements which the company wanted so what else if he has sold his phone to attend classes will that guarantee him getting the job? will they Increase his pay

How on earth one goes for interview and the interviewer got to see his or her two phones, in the first place the phones are supposed been in pockets or ur bags. I guess he went there showing off his two big phones and the interviewer noticed how unwise and arrogant the guy. Served him right!
