Next, the list of award Categories. So as not to prolong matters, I have here a list of categories. Members of committee can also add theirs. But we should try not to make the list too long so as not to make voting difficult or combasome for people. Adjustments can also be made on the list below:

1. Nigerian Player of the Year
2. Nigerian Home based player of the Year
3. Most impactful New Inclusion (2018)
4. Best Goalkeeper (Vincent Enyeama award)
5. Best Defender (Stephen Keshi award)
6. Best Midfielder (Jay-jay Okocha award)
7. Best Attacker (Rashidi Yekini award)
8. Young player of the year (for players 21yrs and less)
9. Super Falcons player of the year
10. Super Eagles Goal of the year.

I would like two other awards.

1. Most unrecognised but highest potential top player (home based)

2. Most unrecognised but highest top quality potential (Foreign based)

There is great satisfaction to bring to the limelight top quality players who have never been noticed.

I truly believe that there must be gems in the local league with great potential. But considering our cultural dynamics across all sectors. Godfatherism, inducement, tribalism, etc we never get to hear of them.

BascoVanVeli I'm sure will attest to this.[/quote]

For (1) There is already an award for best home based player. "Unrecognized but highest potential" this will definitely be highly controversial and too open ended.
For (2) There is a Super Eagles player award already and just like in (1) the "unrecognized and top quality" tag is too open ended and highly controversial.

Meanwhile, I suggest a few more categories like:

- Super Eagles Top scorer of the year (That should be distinct from Best Attacker/Best Forward award because in best attacker we look at an attacker's showing across the entire year and not just in a game or two. And sometimes, such player may not be top scorer. We need to recognise the top scorer too because it is not easy putting the ball in the back of the net).

- Super Eagles Top Assists leader of the year (We must recognise the player or players involved the most in laying/putting the ball on a platter for others to score).

- Super Falcons Goal of the year (We cannot restrict this award to the men alone. The ladies do score worldies too. They score goals or don't they?)

- Super Eagles most improved player of 2018 (This is to reward quantum leaps in improvements of certain talents in the team over the course of the year).

- Now the young player of the year is for players 21yrs and under... But what of the Super Eagles best new entrant of the year? Just saying. (modified: I can see that you added it in Number 3... Well done!).

Okay, so these are the few additions I think should be considered too. If I remember any other relevant catergory, I will try bring it up on time. Shalom... wink

Are the categories below the same, the only difference being the base of the player? If yes, I would like to suggest we name both awards identically. How about we rather say, Most Underrated Top Quality Player (Home Based) , and the same for FB?

I also want to add, in future, Chriskels please try to be very clear in your pick. If you say if we can’t do it in the regular thread, we should create a new thread, you didn’t really give an opinion. Tbaba was very clear as to which he preferred even though he said he would accept whatever decision.
Re: NNFF Awards, Committee. by Joebie: 2:29pm On Nov 22, 2018
Another suggestion. Instead of Okocha and Enyeama why not limit the honor to players that are no more. Say Okwaraji and Agbonavbare respectfully?

I think in best attacker the number of goals will also be factored in. Are we not looking at their performances for both club and country? I think if we create seperate awards like you are suggesting there will be a danger of duplication like you implied indirectly.

I support the idea of a separate category for Assist King.

I want to understand something here. are these awards meant for only Super Eagles and Super Falcons players?

Best Foreign Player of Nigerian descent (Reuben Agboola Award)
This category should be restricted to those whose international careers are still not sealed.

Modified
Also, Top Mention for SE Call-up Award
Restricted to Nigerian players that do not require an application for change of allegiance.

Also Best Player in the Lower Divisions. Only open to uncapped players.

These are just suggestions. Maybe we can limit the number of categories to 15 or so.

Re: NNFF Awards, Committee. by TheSuperNerd(m): 3:12pm On Nov 22, 2018
Yes definitely. In Best attacker, the number of goals will also be factored in both doubt.
The main reason I suggest a separate distinct award in Top scorer of the year award is to recognise two kinds of attackers for any given year.
One attacker may only be banging in the goals but another may be involved in both assists and goals in a balanced manner and be more impactful in all round plays. It is possible that one can cart away both awards shaa and that is also why I say "sometimes" the best attacker may not even be the top scorer.

In all, it is left for us to decide shaa.

Are these awards meant only for Super Eagles and Super Falcons players? Well, the award catgeories seem to suggest so... But I see what you are driving at. Maybe we need to create a special category or two special categories tagged:

- Best Uncapped Nigerian Player in Europe.

- Best/Most impressive Foreign-born Naija talent/player in Europe.

We could also create another award for the home based called something like...

- Best/most impressive player on the local scene.

What do y'all think?

This is just a suggestion for modification.
1. Super Eagles Player of the Year
2. NPFL player of the Year
3. Best Super Eagles New Inclusion (2018)
— Open to the new invites in 2018
4. SE Keeper of the Year (Wilfred Agbonavbare Award)
5. SE Defender of the Year (Stephen Keshi award)
6. SE Midfielder of the Year (Samuel Okwaraji award)
7. SE Forward of the Year
— For overall contribution. wingers inclusive
Now we can have a Top Scorer Award (Rashidi Yekini) seperately
8. SE Young player of the year (for players 21yrs and less)
9. Super Falcons player of the year
10. Super Eagles Goal of the year.

1. Having separate awards for best Attacker and highest goals scorer or highest assists will only introduce ambiguity. Remember we are only naming nominees for the house to vote their choices. Now, Ighalo is the highest goal scorer we do not need the house to vote to decide that. But was Ighalo the best Attacker for the year. This is where players with highest assists and goals scoring threats come in and of course number of goals scored is a vital point. We present the 3 nominees for one category which I suggest is "Best Attacking player" and let the house vote their choices.

2. On Super Falcons goal of the year, you have a point but I don't think that may be necessary. Even FIFA has only one goal of the year award which they select from Male football.

3. Super Eagles most improved player. Yes, I actually errornously omitted it. It should be part of it.

Emm... introducing club performances will only introduce controversies. We are giving awards for performances in the GWG. It makes it easier for the committee to come up with nominees and also makes it less ambiguous for house members to vote.

On your last paragraph . This is the Nigerian Footballers Awards. Award for performance in the GWG.

These Awards should be restricted to Nigerians who have doned the Green White Green. Being Foreign born or Nigerian born should not be an issue here. We cannot be giving Awards to players who have not declared for Nigeria or whose nationality switch has not been concluded.

We only have a separate award for the Best Home Based Super Eagles players because they have their separate team which is the CHAN team and also a separate competition and as said earlier it for players who have worn the GWG and they have done so.
