Try and get my point.most Nigerians leave a good job and settle for less over dia ,work extra hours and the money is just to sustain emselves(while some people I know r doing perfectly well dia).traveling out doesn't mean u r better off than people here...people should plan before travelling..it's not that smooth over dia too.if u doing fine here, take ur time and go on vacation there.an average Nigerian from the comments have been seeing think u r successful once u r out of here and start converting dollar they r making there to naira we r spending here.
u just giving urself false hope.a common gas attendant in the US earns as much as a bank manager in nigeria. dats just an ordinary gas attendant oo! how much is our worthless nigerian naira compared to a US dollar.abegi.

Omg, how old are you?

29 and with enough experience to boot too (three countries abroad before 22). Just because you seem to be part of the privileged few does not mean others are in the same boat too. I say it as it is, I don't sugarcoat things, this country has a very long way to go and will not figure it out any time soon. My 2 cents.

the country will get even worse.if this country was working will ppl be migrating.no electricity,no security, bad roads and someone is saying it is saying it is slavery mentality that is making ppl to travel.if the facilities are in place in this country then migration will go down.

Exactly bro. I guess travelling abroad even for a while opens people's eyes to things and expand their horizons. We have to say it as it is except you are part of the privileged few, one of the problems of this country IMO.

Many of the people who travel abroad ain't just looking for where to make money, rather they seek sane societies where things work properly. Where they can apply for a job and be considered based on what they have to offer and not based on political connection. They also seek quality healthcare at affordable cost, constant power supply, good transport system, security of lives and property, good education etc. Those are the things Nigeria has failed to offer them and that is why they are leaving!

Some would want them to come home and build their country, and I ask; how do you build a country governed by selfish, wicked and demonic leaders who are in no way interested in seeing the country change for good Watch the kind of machinations the evil men in power today are trying to employ to manipulate the upcoming election in their favour, how do you expect the common man to build the country under such political atmosphere

God bless you. I guess Nairalanders have treated this topic well. Op with his funny patriotism smh

Oh so you were part of the people that made it here right? Great. Can't play the numbers and the odds you did, not everybody is strong (emphasis on the word strong) and lucky. My 2 cents.

PS Education in this country? Lol, there are PhD holders in this country without jobs so education is pretty much useless here. If you don't know anybody, you are on your own.

Different strokes for different folks. I was in my early twenties when my life got filled with a lot of uncertainties as to where I'm gearing towards in life. I didn't think I was going to make it abroad, I just didn't see any prospect in sight back home in Nigeria. Dropped out of Uni because I was studying a course I had no ounce of interest in, which I had to or stay at home under my parents roof. Opportunity arrived to move to the UK and I didn't give it a second thought.

I came with dreams and hopes which is paying off. Now in my final year in University and course of choice while working part time for a mobile phone retailer company with a good chance of moving up the ladder.
I have friends who are happy with their security jobs and also have friends who have masters degree working in notable firms, from multinational engineering company to the NHS. I'm not here to tell a success story but considering I am literally a "nobody" back home where favouritism and nepotism has eaten deep into the system. I have no chance of attaining this achievements if I'm still in Nigeria.
Bottom line is, the system works here and everyone is given a fair chance. The system simply doesn't work in Nigeria. (If we have one in the first place)

Tell that to the MizWisdom moniker here who believes everyone must play the horrible odds she did to make it smh

Education comes with success no doubt but please you would agree it's a cruise over there. The system works, like you schooling and earning 5k dollars per month to be paid every 2 weeks. My dear do you think anyone would wanna leave Nigeria if we had such system?

I know many married graduates surviving on less than 200 dollars per month in this country.

Everybody knows you can easier follow your dreams over there biko.

I have noticed that many Nigerians think they can only make it abroad, even though,we are blessed with a large market, what is stopping nigerians from seeing opportunities in their own country?

I have spoken to many chinese( age 20 to 30) they all seems to have very low education, some of them do not have degrees like us but they are making it big time in nigeria, even a north korea man i met in an exhibition in lagos is doing great here in nigeria.

But nigerians are trooping out of their country like nothing works in nigeria.

Look at the hard facts, look at the numbers...

...it's not like nothing works in Nigeria, some things work albeit in a very different way, try searching for a particular job position online in Nigeria and see what you find, then try searching for that same job title in say Canada and see the difference, even the few positions available in Nigeria is shrouded in secrecy, and overly competitive, meaning that if you don't have connection, not exceptionally talented or not having great networking skills, you're as good as dead,

...but is it supposed to be this way? were we all created with equal abilities? There has to be something for the mid-performers and even the laggers too, but this absent in Nigeria. That's why Nigerians troop out.

is she spending that salary in nigeria
She will definitely have a higher standard of living and if she’s prudent with her spending she will be able to save more then a she will ever do here.

And even though some things might be expensive there and she might be heavily taxed but you can’t tell me her standards of living would not have improved.
Let’s be reasonable.

Exactly. The part of the privileged few we are talking about. Those ones don't have any problems in life. Their ilk buy houses and cars cash down abroad and after finishing their education, they have reserved employment waiting for them here in Nigeria. Best of both worlds really smh

where did you get your information from?

earn 5000k dollars per month, which student schooling and working in the US is earning 60K per year

there is no system like that anywhere in this world. it seems you dont understand what it means to go to school and also work at the same time.

oga

most Nigerians are dead wood economically and mentally

There is a small pool of millennial Nigerians trying to help out in the country

But they are being stifled by the larger society of dead weight useless citizens

I'll tell you the honest truth

Except a progressive group in the form of say the Chinese communist party seizes power, suspends democratic elections and uses an iron fist to mould this country, put most crimes at the penalty of death and force development, Nigeria will remain a $hithole because most of its citizens are just a little above animals

selling their votes to the highest bidder and voting out of ethnic and religious sentiment

How can the democracy work in this system

my earlier proposition of force is the only thing that can save that $hithole country

Exactly. Op thinks the agents of change are the majority in this country, he is in for a rude shock!

If you think the way out is by running away then Nigeria will never get developed. Selfishness is part of what is killing us in Nigeria. Whenever the average Nigerian gets an education he begins to feel too big to live in Nigeria. He starts to have this feeling of self-righteousness believing he is a good person while the rest of Nigerians are bad that he can't live with them. Then the next thing on his mind is running away from Nigeria.

The ROOT problem in Nigeria is lack of education. Majority of the citizens have an uneducated mindset. If 70% of Nigerians have an educated mindset many of these problems will go away and we will always elect and have the best rulers governing us. These Nigerians who run away from Nigeria are also part of the problem because if they had stayed back it would help sustain an increase in the number of educated and enlightened citizens which is the foundation of development. As folks like you get an education and keep running away how much educated workforce will be left in Nigeria to lead the nation to advancement? Those countries you are running to fixed their own countries so why can't we fix ours? If every Nigerian has a chance to emigrate to a foreign country don't you think they will also destroy the country with the same uneducated mindset they have?

You probably have not heard stories about how change agents have been frustrated in this country, that is why you are saying this! Keep on with your eldorado thinking where the minority can change things smh

Ignorance at its finest!

I'm so sick of people assuming that nigerians abroad are doing odd jobs. Please if your own family members dont have papers and are suffering abroad, advice them to return back to Nigeria and suffer there with you.

..but please, STOP GENERALISING. Many of us Nigerian youths are doing exceptionally well abroad. Our parents paid the price and suffered so we can have our stay and live decent lives!

Please tell them to stop assuming. I know at least 100 Nigerians in the UK, maybe one/two does cleaning. The rest are Doctors Academic researchers, Bankers, Construction Managers, Engineer, Pharmaceutical executive. Those days are over when Nigerians do "odd" jobs that's the generation before, the current generation are armed with skills and quifications in a system where qualified people are valued. I get at least 10 calls a day for a new job whenever I put my CV online.
