I have been in the stock market for a while, a very good while, I have experienced three intensively brutal reconstructions. That experience made me to vow NEVER TO TRADE STERLING BANK. And I have NEVER touched it since that time. Even when the stock is SHOUTING BUY BUY BUY, I laugh and walk away.....
I may not be fair to myself, but at least I am sticking to my rules.....

No reconstruction ended up as soothing as a curse. Heavy objects always penetrated the ceiling and decisively pinned me to my couch.

Most curses take a while to be decisively punitive.
The reconstructions evoked immediate and sustained capital erosion.

The stocks seemed to always prefer their initial prices before the reconstruction.

Where they failed to descend rapidly, illiquidity took over their dynamic chart patterns and the candles emaciated and lost their bodies and wicks...

I hope this turns out to be different.

Personally, I will never again be sleeping inside a bedroom that Julius Berger's cranes are crossing heavy equipments over its roof.....

Why this deal?

The impetus for this deal is not immediately clear however several analysts spoken to by Nairametrics suggest it could be either of two reasons:

Firstly, it appears this may have been triggered by unpaid loans between the Dozie family and Access Bank which is likely not performing. Any deal short of an acquisition may have thus negatively impacted on the loans thus the need for the takeover.
Another reason posited by analysts suggest this deal was an opportunity for Access Bank to be the largest bank in Nigeria by Asset Base. In terms of profitability and returns on equity, Access Bank is behind GT Bank and Zenith Bank.
Regulatory Oversight

Despite the impending announcement, regulators, CBN and SEC will still have to approve this transaction. This process could take weeks if not months assuming shareholders of both banks comply with regulatory requirements. Critics of this merger already point to potential procedural breaches.

Shareholders approval

More headwinds lie ahead for both banks as they still require shareholder approval to consummate the transaction. For this deal to be consummated, shareholders of both banks will have to approve it with the sponsors of the merger abstaining.

Sources suggest there might be push back on the Diamond Bank side of the deal as its majority shareholder Carlyle Investment may have felt shortchanged. Carlyle had offered to bail out the bank but this request was rejected by the Dozie family after they requested for the resignation of Uzoma Dozie the CEO of Diamond Bank.

They have since made over 56% gain. Only those who are yet to sell MIGHT have some tough time depending on the details of the deal. They may even be on advantage. Let's wait to see how it goes.

if it was a merger one would have expected the smaller entity to rally to catch up with d bigger entity. and d bigger entity share to slow down. though there will be panic selling

Except those already owns diamond late last yr/early dis year.

don't be surprised that everything would have been priced in. the market seem to be a step ahead of all of us here.. the reaction sequent to that deal was d plunging to 61k. the deal was not made public until now. that's my calculation though I may be wrong.

Despite the 28k EPS sterling fair price is above N2, and no rumor bad flying around for the bank like diamond
