A teenage girl I know very well has lived with it for several years without knowing, it was discovered at an almost late stage when she started falling sick, but today she's happier and even healthier than ever because of the meds.
Just keep it to yourself and be consistent with your meds, you might never even fall sick again as your immune system will become more resistant to common diseases.
Note that the teenage girl was a virgin, a test was done to confirm it, because I personally took her to the hospital.
But will any negative man be willing to marry her or she has to marry a positive guy who's viral load is low so they can produce negative babies

Go for another test. Could be a mistake. It happens all the time.

Best advice

I have seen cases where the lab scientists made a mistake

She should go for confirmatory test .

Hi nairaland Family,

kindly help out, i had to create this alternative moniker because I'm widely known here with my other moniker.

I'm a female nairalander, today is really a black Thursday for me. I have lost total Focus and concentration, very depressed at the moment. I'm diagnosed with HIv positive, being crying since morning. the worst part of it is, i'm a virgin, had never sex with any man in my entire life. I was advised to start taking medications immediately...

doctors and well experienced nairalanders in the house, will this medication prolong my life? will it cost me expenses? or the HIV will one day turn to AIDS despite the medication? I'm deeply confused!

kindly help push this to the front page, God bless you all!

Take your medications. Join winners chapel, after some weeks, meet with Bishop David Oyedepo. Thank God as you share your testimony here on nairaland.

Please being HIV positive at the first test doesn't mean u are positive, it could be as a result of the following: Lab error, technical error, strip error and hepatitis B. Please proceed for confirmatory test at any nearby laboratory.. Pls don't fear, the confirmatory test is the final. U ar not HIV positive.

please if she is consistent on her drugs, and probly has contact with a negative person canally or otherwise, will the person in contact be infected with the virus.

Just seeking knowledge.

There's a possibility of her attaining maximum viral suppression even <20cp/ml if she is consistent with her drugs and responds well to treatment. At they point there's a LOW chance of infecting a sexual partner.;but it's not 100%.
She's a virgin & deflowering a lady requires extra force;abrasions may be sustained and some women even bleed..increasing chances of exposure to body fluid(blood) and infection.

Too much advice given already so lemme send love and light to you Dear... It's not the end of the world. So many carriers live way longer than people who suffer other ailments... Just stay positive, go to heart to Heart centre, you'll find them in general hospitals and the medications are free there.. Eat healthy, work out and surround your self with people who genuinely cares.... If you need an anonymous friend feel free to send me a mail... Much love from me to you

I strongly disagree with you on this. Not revealing their status is why the world has gotten to where it is today where there are millions of people living with AIDS and thousands are getting infected with HIV everyday because the infected people kept their status a secret. If people continue keeping their statuses secret then it's only a matter of time before everyone gets infected. Is that the kind of world you want?

I'm a trained HIV expert. People already infected are educated 3 days in a week on how to prevent other people from being infected. We dont advice them to disclose their status to non medical practitioners because of the strong what people think about HIV. It will even make them to die quicker. Friends will avoid her, relatives will shun her, the world will be useless if she dare revel it to people around her. She is task with the responsibility of protecting them not announcing her status. The only reason you want to know her status is to avoid being infected, so you want to Stay very far away from her.

You need confirmatory tests.

There are incidents of false positive results.

I would try in two other different facilities if I were you.

As a HIV-, have you tried the CD4 count test on yourself? What was the result?

Medically explain what CD4 does. If you know it you won't ask this question. Beside CD4, other factors matters alot too. As CD4 can from from 2000 to 5 in one week. Peace to you.

Ohh.. I finally found someone with sense.. Kudos boss.

Those cocktail they drink all in the name of ARV is what is killing them, coupled with the fear of death. I know of a friend who is HIV+ for over 20 years now, no meds and he is more healthy than those claimed to be negative.

HIV is business now. Do you know how much WHO will lose if the cure is found? There will never be a cure cause there is no virus to begin with.. Even if there is, it isn't harmful.

HIV doesn't lead to AIDS.

thanks, I won't take their drugs. if my time comes I will die. I'm just a mere mortal

For those asking you for confirmatory it's good. But I believe you must have confirmed before posting it here. Are your parents still alive? One of them might be carrier. Other method of transmission is rare. If you did blood transfusion at a younger age, it could be that the blood is infected as an infected blood will show negative if it's less than 4 months during screening. But don't spend your energy in finding how you were infected.

Since you are asked to start ARVs immediately, it only means your CD4 is low so you have to take your medication seriously for the next two years. Ask them about positive living they will explain better. Peace

Hiv is not only contracted through sex, lots of people got their through infested clippers , some through manicure and pedicure using aboki unsterilise tools. Like some have assured you, is not death sentence . We have seen Ebola kill many. Magic Johnson the great basket baller is still alive today.

Having had almost 7 yes experience in HIV/AIDS C&T,let me submit as follows;
1.There are many other means one can contract HIV apart from sex but sex is the commonest among female folks.
2.Have you covered the window.period? If not wait for it and do the test again. If yes,go to other facility for another test.If two to threw diff. facilities confirm it positive. Then, you fave the reality by faith in God.
3.Check d possible medium of contracting it-blood transfusion, sharp objects etc Avoid them to reduce its viral.load.
4.Take all the medications and precautions as advises by doctors.
5.Join a support group.
6.Pray and hope in God's miracle.
It is not a death sentence if you follow rules.Don't be angry with God to.now.live a reckless life.Someone could have said what's d essence of being a virgin and then start living waywardly. NO.Be positive and prayerful. You can still.marry and have babies without them being contracted.Your care providers know what to do. Take heart

ok thanks, how many months is the window period?

So sorry for this. But you need to note that HIV can be contacted through various ways and not limited to sex alone. Therefore, stating that you're a virgin isn't really necessary.
Take your medications and live a healthy life. HIV is not a death sentence so you will live long as long as you keep to doctor's instructions. Meanwhile, if you don't want it to degenerate to AIDS, then make sure you follow STRICTLY the doctor's advice.
