And you think Xiaomi will wrestle the market from their competitor just like that?
On the basis of market position, market shares, brand image, resources capacities, and domination power (degree of control over others), there are broadly four types of competitors, such as:

1. Market Leaders

2. Market Challengers

3. Market Followers

4. Market Nichers.

1.Market leader has the largest market share in the relevant product in the industry. It has a a dominant position in the market. Obviously, it leads other firms in new product development, price change, distribution coverage, promotional activities, and novel experiments. This is were tecno falls in
2.Market challengers are known as runner-up firms. They occupy second, third and lower ranks in an industry. This is what Xiaomi tend to be
Market challengers are capable to attack the leader and other competitors. Sometimes, capable challengers can overtake the leader. However this might be difficult task as a market leader enjoys large economies of scale. The market leader can reduce their price to point that the market challenger runs of the market. I don't want to bore you with detailed lectures on this as this just a surface note..
The reality on ground is that can Xiaomi compete with tecno based on price? Tecno is ready to reduce their price to point that xiaomi may pack out
Oga whatever advantage you think Transsion enjoy can be usurped. This may take some time( can not happen overnight) because of some of the above listed by you. You should know that xiaomi isn't coming to a totally new market because of early bird users like us ( typing via Mi A2 lite) who are already spreading Mi love.
More people now know about the brand than you can imagine.

Besides my Mi A2 lite beat all Tecno and infinix in the same price bracket.

Peace

It doesn't change the fact that your brand can't penetrate the market. Just one push from tecno will send them parking same way tstv suffered

All of you arguing for Tecno up and down, wait till Xiaomi enter Naija then una go know how far.

If their phones continue to sell at the current prices, then its only a matter of time before Tecno goes into coma.

Those of us who use Xiaomi phones know how much attention it draws when people see them. And when you tell them to guess the price, they will be quoting high figures because of the specs. But they usually get shocked when they realise that the price is far less than what they were imagining.

Shebi Nigerians are crazy about battery? Y'all don't worry, Xiaomi's got you covered.

About spare parts, you won't really be needing them unless you are a careless phone user. Sure accidents can happen but unless it's very serious, their phones usually survive it. Been using my phone for more than a year now with no reason whatsoever to look for spare parts.

And besides, I believe when they come, they will come with spare parts too.
lol my note 5A someone guessed it's 100k I want laugh die. My phone has gorrila glass 3, latest Android, so slim and sleek, and dual Device usage and that means I have one phone but it's like I'm using 2phones, and above all it has remote control for all my appliances including AC, and gotv.. I swear techno and infinix are in big soup grin

There is nothing like Mi Note from Xiaomi. It's always Redmi Note. Xiaomi Mi is a different line up.

Btw, we are talking about current prices. If you see it at 60k, let me know I will buy five.

I laugh angry grin grin grin grin grin grin. That a product does well in some countries doesn't mean it will in Nigeria or Africa. Xiaomi should be ready for fierce battle if they enter the African market. But I pity them their standard will fall on the long run. Samsung were not foolish when they stick to premium quality
What are you saying?
Has TECNO ever had anyone with superior quality phones at cheaper price points compete against them?

Xiaomi is an Elephant in the smartphone scene. Unless they increase their pricing when they launch in Africa, they will dismantle TECNO.

Meanwhile, we have been arguing over a non existent occurrence for 6 pages.
Where was it written that Xiaomi has launched in Africa in the Article?

That is what am saying it is either their quality reduces to compete favourably with tecno or they stick to their high quality brand to loose the market. Should they stick to low quality like tecno, many Nigerians will not buy them because of the perception of their brand. Should they stick to high quality like Samsung few persons like yourself will buy their product. So it will be a difficult situation for them because they will have to think well before dishing out their brand. Remember that Nokia operating on android platform is still having difficulty to sell well in Nigeria because of the saturated market.

You are definitely not familiar with Xiaomi.

They make more quality phones than TECNO, while being cheaper.

You really think Xiaomi hasn't planned all that out
grin grin.

They made Redmi a sub brand to cater for things like that. The Redmi Note 7 has 4GB RAM, 4G Support, 48MP Camera , Snapdragon Chip, Quick Charge 4, 4000maH and more and it costs less than N60k

Trust me they know what they're doing and they're even planning to launch Android Go phones to take on the low-end iTel devices.
Wow! Impressive!

Tecno definitely is not the best brand in the world but it's currently the highest selling in Africa and we can't dispute that, not all their devices are of low quality though.

There's an element of truth in what you've said.
Tecno holds a larger share in the smartphone industry in Africa.

EazyMoh:
stop repeating that price sensitivity line.
Xiaomi is actually cheaper than Tecno in all aspects.
Take Infinix Note 5 versus Xiaomi A2 lite for example.
Both run AndroidOne OS, have about the same screen size, but the A2 runs on Snapdragon while the Infinx uses the power draining Mediatek, so at the end the battery on the Xiaomi lasts longer.
The Xiaomi also has a dual rear camera against the Note 5's single.
And both are basically the same price.
Nobody who knows smartphone performance would pick the Note 5 over the A2 lite, because the latter is better in every aspect.
Xiaomi has not been called the best value for money smartphone of the world for nothing.
Xiaomi are cheaper because you bought them outside Nigeria, wait till they get here

Don't mind those guys jubilating up there. By the time the feel the price tag of Xiaomi they will run back to Tecno as their Lord and saviour.
What most people failed to understand is that it's cheaper to Xiaomi product outside Nigeria. The moment they moved down to Africa the price will definitely go up. Tecno are trying in their own way, let's see how the competitions go.

I have been in phone business for long to understand this baba grin. Tecno has watched mighty brands try and failed. Do you know that Tecno Mobile is in war with the new entrant, Tambo mobile? Tambo as we heard was once affiliated with Tecno mobile, until they decided to break away to produce their own power phones and super phones. The truth is that their basic phones are as strong as tecno with more interesting features but I don't see them shaking tecno off balance.
Xiaomi is welcome to try, but Tecno and Infinix are going nowhere cheesy. Itel feature phones remain the best selling in Nigeria but their smartphone range is in trouble.
No brand should be under estimated at this point? Nothing like Giant anymore, The only advantage is the big names had paid their due before more But I tell, not to talk of TAMBO mobile TA series, Look at the like of Partner, Afrione, Pano, Imose. This brands are doing great. little will u have of them

That's exactly my point. Tecno and Infinix are rooted strongly in Nigeria to be sweeped away just like that. That is the same thing with MTN SIM cards, that company can never be defeated in Nigeria no matter how Airtel and rest try. Even with their free sims can't do the magic for them.

My focus on Tambo is on their basic feature phones because as it stands now, their smartphones are still on experimentary stage. Try their basic phone one day and get a glimpse of what I am saying.
