Hi Salford could you please explain a bit more on the bold sentence and please state some companies that are project management consultancies. Thanks.
It basically means a contractor would be sent to work in a different province or within the same province for a project. The project could be 1 month long or 2 years long. Apart from the likes of PwC, IBM, KPMG, there are other smaller consultants that focus solely on PM and Business Analysis, and are well established across Canada. A good one that I know of is Paradigm Consulting Group out of Winnipeg in Manitoba or PMX out of Toronto. I am sure there would be tons of those smaller consulting firms across Canada.

Read it and lots of the comments from the CPC/PPC guys on the thread.

Execution is key. If they can get it right, it is a great idea.

maternal:
Don't know if this is the right thread for it, but the federal government is trying a new immigration pilot project to help gets immigrants into rural communities. Perhaps this may be good for people who can't get or afford the skilled worker route ? A nice read.

Honestly I don't think it'll work. People leave small towns due to lack of opportunities and resources. Fix those issues first I feel. People will use this as a gateway to enter which i don't blame them.

Yes. Pmp is more accepted in Canada/N.America. Very few organization will list prince2 as a substitute to Pmp. We accept both in my place of work, but a candidate with a prince2 will get bumped for one with pmp when it comes down to one person getting the pm job.
Most core project management positions will not ask for a particular degree. Note "core PM positions" e.g like a PM team for an IT project or PM team for lean improvement projects; however, some construction or engineering jobs or IT jobs will still require the prerequisite engineering or computer science degree, and Pmp ceetification will just be an added bonus. These kind of roles will often encounter projects on their jobs, but their engineering skills and regulatory requirements is of more importance than PM skills.

So whether your degree matters or not will depend on the kind of job you are looking for. There are project management consultancies that send contractors to work term projects in companies all over Canada, for this types of jobs, your degree title would hardly matter.
Still on project management, I read on conestoga website that 92% of their students on their project management graduate certificate program got jobs within 6 months after graduation in the last 3 years. Could this be real? Or one of those gimmicks. Is project management really a hot cake out there in reality?

Hi Guys, does anyone know a secret to calling CIC and actually speaking with an agent. I have repeatedly called 1-888-242-2100 and followed the voice prompts based on this thread and also +16139444000 for Global Affairs Canada also following the voice prompts and it has never been successful. I get to the end where I should talk to an agent and they tell me every time that all their agents are busy and the call drops. I will appreciate pointers from anyone who has successfully spoken to an agent at CIC before.

I don't know much about Conestoga. All I know is that it's in Ontario.
As per Conestoga stats: 92% PM related roles, or 92% related and unrelated jobs...?
If it's 92% PM related jobs, then that's a good record.
In my opinion, PM is good and can be a hot cake if you have good experience to back it up, usually 5 years and more of related experience.

Actually those two words are very popular in the baking community. Those are words that are always used to describe cakes. And that's what I've always thought of whenever I see the moniker.
Google those words and your results page will be filled with all things cake.
For you to interpret it into za oza room, you are a bad shild grin grin grin

LMAO Chai!! You are a case grin grin
I maintain my stance joor, soft and moist and even decadent are perfect adjectives for cakes.
Think of it logically sef, what you're thinking of doesn't really answer to the soft and moist description. As a writer, if I am asked to choose two words to describe that, neither soft nor moist would make the cut. There are other adjectives that come to mind...

Hi Salford thank you for the response. Please bear with my questions. Still on the project management, there are different aspects like IT PM, construction PM etc. So for these consultancies like E&Y, PWC, KPMG etc do they have need for all types of project manager or different consultancies with different PMs? And irrespective of your background when you do pmp or prince2 does this enable you work with any consultancy? Also do you know consultancy that construction professionals can work? Thank you.

Hmm, a project manager is a project manager is a project manager. Your technical background (mech. eng, civil eng, finance, HR, etc) may make you however more suitable for one industry/firm than another.

Project management is a discipline on its own. PMP is based on the PMBOK standard and is applicable to most if not all industries. Prince2 is a methodoloy and is preferred by some IT firms.

Thanks for the reply joo2018. You have said it all.
@jbelieve, I am not in the PM industry. I am only talking from experience or events I encounter at work. The likes of Kpmg, paradigm etc would have in-house work, but they would often times send out their employees to work as contractors/consultants in a different firm for a lenght of time, depending on the duration of the project.

When i worked in a bank in England, we had a continuous improvement project in our division. Contractors from PWC were hired for this project. I remember PWC bringing in guys all the way from Brazil to work on the CI project. In Canada, my company had a similar project and PMX/Paradigm sent in contractors to help with the project. Alot of Continuous improvement projects are often Business Analysis/IT related.

In the construction industry (my turf), construction projects are usually handled in-house or via engineering consulting firms if it's a larger project...You would have the likes of EllisDon, Stantec, Jacobs, Aecom, Woods/Amec, Cima etc. These firms will throw all technical men/women of varying skills and experience at an Engineering project. There would be an overall PM who could be an engineer, a technologist or technician depending on the size of the project or type of project.

When makimg hiring decisions, these ones will prefer your technical background amd experience over pm certifications. Your PM certification in a construction industry would be an added advantage and not usually a prerequisite requirement. E.g a transmission line construction manager or planner might only need his Powerline technician journeyperson license and 5 to 7 years of work experience building powerlines to qualify as a construction manager on such project. Two civil engineers might bid on a job, their qualifications, type and years of experience would be the qualifier in selecting the preferred Candidate not their PM certifications.

I attended an ACESS webinar yesterday and we were asked to spread the word that they've added a new stream to their prearrival service.
Before now, you couldn't obtain pre-arrival service from them unless you were in;
Engineering
Financial Services
Human Resources
Sales and Marketing or
Supply Chain

They've added another one now called;
Leadership

The leadership option is available to any and every one who doesn't fall into the other five streams.
You have to have gotten PPR before you'll be accepted into the program.

Just fyi

Hi Blessing, for those of us that used IQAS, how do we send our transcripts to NCA. Does the institution send it directly? Or do we have to go through WES?

I do not know if NCA will accept transcripts from IQAS. You could email them to find out. My University and Law School transcripts were reprocessed by the respective institutions and sent directly to NCA.

You may or may not go through WES. However the advantage of evaluating through WES is that, your credentials/records are kept with them and could be sent to any prospective employer upon request by you. That way, you wouldn't have to always go through the stress of processing transcripts for any given application.

I can't recall the details anymore but the family used a BDC and were arrested at POE for laundering money for terrorists or something along that line. Their case is still in court in Canada.

Please be careful with whoever you use in changing your naira to CAD (including bureau de change). We (my family) are currently still accused persons in a fraud case over the money we money we bought from a bureau de change in lagos which was transferred to our canadian account. Apparently, some yahoo boys defrauded some Canadian lady and unknown to us, we bought the money.
