Twrp, pitch black and orangefox are all custom recoveries. Same method to install.

Yes. Some do come with bugs.

You can try the latest AOSIP rom by akhil.

If you want more features, try resurrection remix or havoc

Though I came from RR to AOSIP

Not necessarily. Just same steps to flash custom rom. I.e
-wipe (excluding internal memory)
-flash rom
-flash gapps
-flash dm - verity (optional).

The file is less than 1gb because it doesn't come with gapps. You can download any, but I use micro gapps.

Use titanium backup. Except if you're coming from miui, then you'll have to backup to an external storage and decrypt by wiping everything
