Imagine the way she has no problem killing anyone even a woman who has a young child. That alone is enough to make people hate her. How can you try to murder a child's mother when the child still very much needs her?

Hi Kim, are you done with the story.

Epilogue

Slowly and steadily, Daniel's eyes fluttered open.

He groaned as the memories of the last incident he witnessed came flooding into his mind.

He could feel the slightly blurred disturbing images flashing in his mind.

"...I want you," Naomi had clearly stated. "and I want her dead too."

He remembered he moved in at that moment and the bullet hit him instead of Amanda.

"Daddy is awake." he heard the sweet tiny voice say by his side.

He tried to move his body to the direction of the voice but it felt like they were no longer his.

"Take it slowly." he heard Amanda say, very close to his ears.

Daniel took her advice and slowly started to move his head to her directions. Despite the pain and stress, a smile still crawled to his lips when their eyes met.

It was so obvious that she's been crying. Her eyes were almost blood red, her face so pale and the dark circles under her eyes said she's not slept since the incident.

"I'm sorry." she started to cry again.

Watching her was heartrending, it couldn't even be compared with the pain he was feeling in his thighs where he was shot. He felt greater pain in his heart, watching her cry.

"Mummy, stop crying. He's awake now." Josh said, putting his hand in hers.

Just then, a nurse walked in.

"You're awake," she said to Daniel, walking closer. "How do you feel?"

"Pains." he managed to voice out without moving any part of his body.

"You will feel better when next you wake up."

With that, she injected a liquid into the drip by his bedside and left.

It was already dark the next time he opened his eyes.

"Manda," he whispered.

"Yeah dear." she replied. It was almost as if she was his guardian angel. Always by his side and never baiting an eyelid.

"I forgive you," came the softest reply she's ever heard in her entire life.

"Thank you Dan." she answered and quickly moved to his side and hugged him, not too tightly though, because of the his thighs, where the bullet hit him.

"Where's Josh?"

"Sleeping. He's with my elder sister."

Tears crowded his eyes. "Will you ever forgive me for not forgiving you all these years? For not looking past your mistakes and seeing that you've got one of the most beautiful soul on this planet. I'm sorry."

Amanda sniffed, trying to control the flood of tears that were threatening to flow. "Don't put the blame on you. I should be the one saying all this not you. Who ever has you has the most invaluable thing he could ever dream of." she covered his mouth with her palm when he tried to speak. "Trust me, I'm not saying this because you're in this bed because of me, I'm saying this because it's the truth. You're a unique being and you deserve far better than how life treats you."

Daniel finally decided it was time to talk and let her know what has been on his mind but first he needed to ask one final important question. "Are you still with your boss?"

"No. I never loved him. Loneliness and the fact that you moved on pushed me." she confessed. "beside, I've quit the job already."

"Good," he muttered almost under his breath.

Time to finally take a step, the step he knows would move him two step ahead of where he's been.

He breathed heavily and held her hands. "If you love me, please marry me again, please."

Her free hand immediately went to her mouth.

"It's okay to say no," he didn't want to be the one to force her to make any decision she wasn't willing to make.

"I wasn't even thinking about saying no...oh my God, yes Dan, I will marry you."

At that point, the joy he felt couldn't even be described with any word on earth, he wanted to jump up in excitement but for his legs, he wanted to scream and let the whole world know that once again love is going to thrive in his heart but it wouldn't be a manly thing to do. Finally, he drew her closer and hugged her.

Yes, finally, he's going to know the true meaning of love again and feel it not from afar but from within him.

"I would like to adopt Josh also." he added and waited for her reaction.

"Everyone including my family thinks he's your son, so that won't be a problem." she whispered against his chest.

Wow, he exclaimed.

Yes, they divorced but they didn't wash their dirty linens in public for everybody to see and take pictures of it.
"I love you Dan." Amanda said, still resting her head on his chest.

"Love you more babe."

He couldn't be more thankful to God for sparing his life to see that particular day, despite all the ups and downs, he still counted his blessings, boldly. If not for anything he was happy that the bad egg in his life has been gotten rid of, even though it was done the hard way but he still was grateful.

"What time is it?" he asked Amanda.

"7pm I..."

The sound of the door opening interrupted her words.
Daniel turned to see who entered.

"Oh," he whispered when his eyes met his manager's dancing eyes. There was good news obviously. "Mr. Benjamin. How have you been?"

"Fine sir," he came closer, smiling as he did. "I'm glad you're awake."

"Me too." he replied.

"Well, I've been waiting to tell you this in person."

Daniel's chest tightened at the sound of that. Telling, telling, that was how his secretary walked up to him to tell him something on the day he was arrested for a crime he didn't commit. "Hope it's good news?"

"Yes. Best news by the way."

"Let me hear it." he answered, holding Amanda's hand. The manager momentarily gave them a puzzled look before minding his business.

"Well, business is booming. The news of the incident went viral, it was on newspapers, blogs and everywhere on the internet and even the people who knew nothing about our business before now, wants to buy, sell and do business with us." Before he even finished, Daniel was grinning.

Talk about Devil wanting to pull you down, without knowing he would end up lifting you up.

"That's great news."

"Well, we need more hands."

"You can handle that right. Plus, let my secretary know she would be in charge of marketing department as soon as we resume work and in the meantime, start helping me get new domestic helps, secretary and a personal driver for a girl I want to bring into my house."

He knew that his secretary needed and deserved a promotion as she was one of the people who helped him those days he spent in the cell living like a pauper.

"A girl?"

"Yes, Miranda." he turned to Amanda. "I'm sorry for not letting you know before now. She needs therapy and I'm willing to do that for her."

Amanda smiled, looking into his eyes. "I was even about to discuss it with you. Would really love her to stay with us."

"Great." he acknowledged.

"Is there anything else I'm supposed to know?" Mr. Ben asked, looking from Amanda to Daniel.

Daniel knew what he was asking about even without being told. "Yes, we're getting married, again."

"If you were a lady, I would have hugged you now." Mr. Ben joked. "Congratulations. I'm so happy for you two. You both deserve it, you've been through a lot already."

"Thanks Ben," Amanda put in. She's known him since the very time she met Daniel.

"I just love the way things are going." Mr. Ben said excitedly. "Alex and his accomplice will rot in jail. Twenty years jail term is not a baby's play."

"It's not." Alex added, tiredly. When he woke up, Alex was the first person he thought of but he waved it aside. He didn't want to think towards that direction. One part of him pitied him, after all, he didn't accomplish his mission.

And Miranda, he felt for the little girl who started going through hell at such a young age, he wished he had been more closer to her at least she would have confided in him and he would have known what to do about it.

As if on cue, the door opened and Miranda walked in.

"Uncle," she said excitedly, when she saw Daniel wide awake. "Thank God you're awake."

"She's been coming almost every hour to check on you." Amanda chimed in, laughing.

Daniel was short of words.

"I brought fruits cuz aunty told me you would soon wake up." she said, dropping one of the bag she was holding by his bedside.

"Thanks Mimi." he finally found his voice. Such amazing act of kindness coming from a young girl.
"How are you doing?"

"I'm fine but I miss dad."

At that instant, tears filled his eyes. Not denying the fact that he pitied Alex too, the memories of the sweet moments they once shared before his jealousy got the better of him chose that moment to flash before his eyes.

"You can always visit him whenever you like." Amanda replied, drawing Miranda closer to herself and patting her back. "You will be fine in our house and whenever you like you can go to the prison with your driver to see him. I can only imagine the pain you're feeling now. I'm sorry darling." Amanda was trying so hard not to cry.

"I wish he was a better dad and more contented with what he had." Miranda said amidst tears.

At that point, Amanda let the tears fall freely.

Not tears for Alex and the condition he was in, after all, he brought it upon himself but tears for the genuine love the little girl felt for her dad despite all he's done.

Blood they say is thicker than water!

She in turn felt bad for Naomi but not too bad because she deserved to be in prison not just for trying to kill her but for killing her boyfriend and making it look like she was innocent. She deserved the jail term she got.

"I'm sorry uncle. My dad made me lie in court. He threatened to kill me if I don't." Miranda walked to Daniel and took his hands. "I'm sorry. I never wanted to do it."

Such a smart and compassionate girl, Daniel thought inwardly.

"It's okay." he smiled at her. "everything happens for a reason."

"I promise to behave myself while in your house." she assured him.

"I promise to treat you like a daughter, like a princess."

She gave him a tight lipped smile and hugged him.

Last but not the least. Try as much as possible to be honest in all your dealings. Honesty is the best policy.
Sincerity also pays. Be sincere to yourself and those around you so you won't have to blame your village people later in future cuz the consequences of past actions whether positive or negative will always come knocking.

I just hope the ghost of our past don't come back to haunt us later in future and affect those who knew nothing about it.
