hausadreturn: There's a saying, those who do not know history are bound to repeat it. There's a reason why schools teach history. Besides, I think Nigerians are getting tired of the persecution complex of the average Igbo who thinks he and his forebears are saints and martyrs in this project called Nigeria. It is only good to once in a while revisit and remind ourselves of the facts. That's all. 2 Likes |

In standard Ibo tradition none of them will respond intelligently to this. Their only response will be chest beating, loud mouthing and lunatic screams of "Afonja". 3 Likes |

5thElement: Gee we igbos by IGBOS I mean both the people you call south south.... We put up more fight against white men than any other clan... We don't see a white man as God or worship them... Because we believe we have more to offer than them.... That's one of the reason Brits are struggling with BIAFRA EXIT is not EGO but what we have in us.... We face challenges face to face.... We fail a hundred times we endure and rise up again and again and again and that's what the westerns don't wish to see in AFRICANS.... With the AWOLOWO stuff you're talking about an Igbo man may not know how to play politics but he sure plays the politics that will better everybody.... An Igbo man can leave his clan and vote another but other tribes doesn't care what you have to offer provided you're his kinsmen.... We have a different view in politics that's why and more reason FOR SOUTHERN EXIT FROM NIGERIA. Do your thing I do my thing and we respect each other.... I can't be going forward and you're dragging me backwards... We will all be stagnant. AZIKIWE MADE ALOT OF MISTAKES WE THE SOUTH DIDN'T ACCEPT |

FortuneDeGreat: Those from the midewest are igbos. Those from eastern region are controlled by igbos. It's just as y'all call anybody from the north fulani today. The former IGP was Nupe, yet you all call him fulani. Those officers were all carrying out igbo agenda of dominating Nigeria, nay Africa. |

ezenwajosh: So the British are struggling with Biafra's exit from Nigeria? Is that so? Interesting. I'm glad to see that you have a high opinion of yourselves. Still doesn't change the facts about you guys. I think it was Ahmad Bello who talked extensively about your bragging attitude and expansionist tendencies. When I first heard his comments which I downloaded from YouTube, I felt disgusted that a supposed Nigerian leader could talk that way...then I joined Nairaland and my eyes were opened. I'm glad we both agree that the Igbos aren't politically savvy. |

PeterUdeme:That's what I'm saying... There is no proof of fact that Ironsi would not have executed the coup plotters, as they were already in prison. Emmanuel Ifeajuna ran to Ghana, but he was brought back and put in prison. |

5thElement:Just so you know, while I am a lover of history, I only began to research more after getting to college because the Yoruba folks/historians around me talked about it from time to time. I mean, I was in Awo Hall in Ife, and there's no time you won't hear people talk about what Awo did or didn't do. The question is, were you taught in school about how Nzeogwu killed Ahmadu Bello or how Ifeajuna killed Tafawa Balewa and dumped his body on the road side? I think the answer is no. Unless you had a better standard of education while growing up, I only recall hearing about the fact that "there was a military coup and the specific dates"... and it ended there. I don't know where you live or grew up but I don't live in an environment where the average Igbo thinks he's a Saint or is being persecuted. By the way, I am average Igbo. Am I a Saint? Yes. Am I being persecuted? Why would you even persecute me for what soldiers did in the past... anybody who does that is unintelligent and has no intention of moving forward in life. Am I part of this project called Nigeria? Yes I am and I have to be. |

PeterUdeme:I believe you've read about Nzeogwu's interview after the coup. If you really want to be sincere to yourself, you'll realise he did it not because of any Igbo agenda because he had no business about things related to Igbo. Please kindly read up his interviews after the coup. He even said that Ironsi should've been killed but he wasn't. The analysis shows that those in Lagos hesitated on their job and if Nzeogwu was in Lagos, he'd have executed perfectly. He wasn't even happy that Ironsi was taking power. In his interview, he said he remains his boss but from his countenance, it showed discomfort. That's not clearly what he wanted. |

There is also this part of history that no one has talked about in 7 pages of this thread. History tells us that the intention of the coup was to kill those in power and install in power Awolowo, who was in prison. Perhaps no one talks about this because it is not a fact isn't it? 1 Like |
Re: How Igbo Leaders Caused Nigeria's Current National Political Problems by Nobody: 12:01pm On Mar 09, 2019 |
hausadreturn: Don't worry. Your own generation didn't meet history in school, so I understand. I was taught full Nigerian history starting from when I was in primary school and through secondary school. So, yes. I was taught how the civil war began, Nigeria's political parties in the 50s and 60s, Independence, various ethnic groups in Nigeria, their geographical locations, their culture and customs. These were facts we had to cram even in primary school as well as secondary school. And yes, education was qualitative then. |

hausadreturn: Intentions and actual actions aren't the same thing. Every evil doer will tell you he had good intentions at the start of the evil deed. History doesn't really record intentions per se but acts and actions of people. 1 Like |

5thElement:"...and then you joined nairaland and your eyes opened..." Are you taking the things that happens here very seriously? I hope you're not among those that read stuffs on nairaland and translate it the real world. Because the real world is far different from whatever this thread is talking about. Go outside and interview an average Nigerian about the events of 1966 and he/she knows little about what you're talking about. Get real. |
Re: How Igbo Leaders Caused Nigeria's Current National Political Problems by hausadreturn(m): 12:07pm On Mar 09, 2019 |
5thElement:And you were taught about how Igbos caused the downfall of Nigeria in your primary and secondary school? Is that? Every other thing you've mentioned is normal history. But were you taught that it was the igbos that caused Nigeria's political mess? I'll call that selective teaching to malign the igbos. |

Theresa May made a comment last year that blacks has no right to self determination....igbos don't brag.... Knowing and delivering your potentials ain't bragging. We are republicans by nature and that's our political style... The nigeria political system can't work for us |

hausadreturn: Lol. This is the real world. Do you know why people here are free with insults and curses? Because of the anonymity this forum gives us. If this forum forces everybody to put their real names and pictures on the their profile, people will be more civil. I take what happens here very seriously indeed. It only shows me that those who smile at me and laugh with me in church (I am Catholic BTW) and shake my hands during peace offering in church wouldn't mind plunging a knife through my heart in real life. I've seen that scenario played out here one too many times. I remember my first quarrel with a lady on this forum. She was married to a Yoruba man (I checked her earlier posts) and there she was heaping curses on the Yorubas. I'm talking as far back as 2012/13. So I calmly asked her if she could show her husband and his family what she just posted and she became livid. Take what happens here seriously. That was how Rwandan genocide started. 1 Like |

hausadreturn: I see you're trying to prolong this thread unnecessarily. Were you taught everything in school? Don't you read books apart from your school books? If you don't I'd advise you to start. Don't just read to pass. My personal library at home is a book or two shy of the library of Congress. (Hyperbole ) |

FortuneDeGreat: Nice try. But wrong. He was killed for not cooperating with the dissident officers and not because of his ethnicity. Try again. And maybe while you are it you can tell us why Nnamdi Azikiwe was warned to flee and Michael Okpara, the Eastern region Premier was detained instead of killed like his counterparts in the North and West. 1 Like |
