Wow! Five books at a go! Thanks so much my Oga. You are one of the writers I look up to on nairaland. God bless you and replenish your purse in Jesus name. Your talents will open doors of wonderful opportunities for you in Jesus name.

And for everyone who had been supporting me, those who don't even bother reading from here, they just go straight to okadabooks, may the Lord bless you all in Jesus name. I love you all.

Ademide carried the food and headed towards the waste bin, she was about to dump it into the trash when she heard her name.
“Ademide! Don’t you dare!”
“I know you will come out Pastor. I know you are watching everything that is going on here. Now that I have your attention can I see you now cos I’m tired of waiting” Ademide demanded.
“Go back to your seat and wait till I summon you, I call the shots here” he said and went back into his office.
“Seriously! Pastor……” Before she could finish her statement he had already shut the door.
“Wow!” Bunmi who opened her eyes wide in awe at the Hollywood scenes been shot in her presence exclaimed.
Ademide couldn’t believe he just shut the door. She wanted to cry but she held it.
“What exactly is going on here Sis Ademide?” The secretary asked.
“I’m sorry Sis Bunmi but I can’t talk right now”
“Hold on, I think I know why you are here. Are you the one who was supposed to resume work at the account department?”
She didn’t reply. Her silence has answered Bunmi’s question “Oh it’s you, no wonder he kept you outside” she said laughing.
“Eyah… he’s the principled time. You should have called in earlier. Don’t worry, once the two hours is up, then you are good with him. Just apologize when you go in, ehn”
“Apology my foot” she almost said that out loud.
The intercom buzzed, Bunmi checked her wrist watch it was exactly two hours. She picked it. “Send her in” Pastor David said
“Ok sir”
“Sis Ademide, you can go in now”
“Ok” She said but she didn’t move. She kept her gaze on the TV screen. Bunmi was confused, she repeated herself in case she didn’t hear her well but Ademide gave her the same reply.
Of course Pastor David was watching her through the camera in his office. 10minutes later, he stood up and left the office.
He went straight to where Ademide was sitting and pulled her up. She was holding back.
“Follow me now, or I’ll take you forcefully”
She saw in his eyes that he meant what he said and followed him.
“Bunmi please bring her things including the food she refused to eat”
“Yes sir” she said enjoying every bit of the melodrama going on.
He led her to the sofa as she followed him obediently and made her sit. Bunmi placed her bag and food on the table and left. She left the door open as usual.
“Now start eating before we go into the subject matter”
“I’m not eating. Can we please talk about why I’m here and get this over with!” She demanded.
“Really!” He said, Pastor really love her gut.
“Here is my CV and all the necessary credentials” She placed them on the table.
“Eat that food in front of you, let me know when you are through. I’ll be on my sit. He left the sofa and went back to his official sit. He swirled the chair backing her.
Ademide looked up and she realized he was backing her. She knew he won’t attend to him if she didn’t do as he says.
“What a stubborn Pastor” She muttered.
“I heard that” he said still backing her.
She eyed him and started eating. When she was through, she left the disposable plate on the table. She knew the right thing to do but she decided to leave it there.
“I’m through” she announced.
He swirled the chair to face her. He stood up and sighted the disposable plate. He shaked his head, picked it up, including the empty bottle and emptied it into the trash can.
“So you watch me cleared the table for you and you didn’t flinch!”
“I didn’t ask you to do it”
“Good. What took you so long to come for the job?”
“I don’t want to work here”
“What change your mind?”
“I haven’t change my mind. I’m here because I was pressured and compelled to take the job”
“Why were you at the chief accountant's office earlier?”
“Oh my God” she held her forehead. “As the interview started or something” she thought.
“You haven’t answered my question”
“You already know why I was there”
“So you think, you’ll just walk up to him and get a job just like that”
“I never knew it would be this difficult” She sneered.
“You made it difficult for yourself” He scowled at her.
“Can you please call my parents and tell them I’m not competent for this job!”
“You are asking a Pastor to lie”
“But that’s the truth, I’m not cut out for this kind of job where my freedom and rights are impaired” She said cheekily.
“Seriously!”
“Why are you so bent on punishing me. This job is punishment, it’s very obvious” She said but he didn’t reply her rants.
He asked for her CV and credentials. She handed them to him and he looked through it.
He went back to his office and wrote a letter to the account department with the church headed paper. She called her to come pick the letter which he placed on the table which she did. He then instructed her to take it to the account department.
“He picked his phone and called the chief accountant. “The lady I told you about is on her way. Don’t bother to interview her”
“Alright Pastor” he replied and the line went off.
“I thought Pastor do things rightly. Why do you tell him not to interview me?” She queried.
“You don’t know why! I know you will try all your possible best to fail the interview but this job, I won’t allow you lose it”
“And if I’m later fired?”
“Ademide, don’t try anything funny over there. Remember this is not a circular organization, this is Church work. You can go to the account office now” he discharged her and she left.
“God what did I get myself into. All my life in the ministry, no one as ever talked back at me this way” he said to himself when she left.

At the account department. Ademide was told to go and submit all her documents to the appropriate quarters. She was later told to go and drop the letter at the chief accountant’s office. She entered and the man was surprised to see her.

“Were you not the one who came in the morning?”

“Yes sir. I was the one”

“You may sit” She sat down and thanked him. “You came to seek for a job that is already yours?”

“Ehm……

“It’s ok, today is gone already. Come and resume tomorrow but before you go, tell the lady at the reception to show you to your own office”

“I have an office to myself?”

“Yes, you are in charge of documentation of the account department. Every service held in church both weekly and Sunday service account report will be documented by you”

“Sir, please I don’t really get my job description”

“After each service, you will wait till all the proceeds of the service is counted. I’ll be the one to give the written report which will be passed to the financial secretary. The FS signs and transfer the report to you, then you documents it. But your own work doesn’t stop there unlike the financial secretary.

The next day. Your duty is to submit a copy of the documentation to the Pastor the morning after. Then at the end of the month, you’ll submit all your weekly documentation to the Pastor. But before you go, you need to see the church planning committee to collect their budget for the month, although the Pastor already has their yearly budget. A copy is also in your office but to make work easier, they’ll give you the print out budget for that particular month.

You’ll take that along with you to the Pastor. Once he goes through it, then he decides on how the proceeds and funds will be managed. There’s a percentage that is allocated to some strategic
areas but the thing is that the percentage are not fixed. This month, 20% might be going to the widows, 30% to mission, 15% to the orphanage and the next month the percentage can change based on the most pressing needs. Except for the staff monthly salaries which is fixed, every other expenditures are variables. So you’ll have to work hand in hand with Pastor David because you mustn’t miss things up during your documentation.

So once the percentage ratio has been fixed, then you’ll take it back to the financial secretary, note the FS is also part of the planning committee so he already has the copy of the budget. FS will then read through. He may not approved it because sometimes Pastor may decide to take all the monthly proceed to mission or the needy and less privilege, he’s a philanthropist but if the church too needs some money for one thing or the other he may send you back to the Pastor so he could make provisions for the church’s personal needs.

Some times the church may have a special program and it will involve money, so you’ll have to have another meeting with him for adjustment. But in cases where the FS is good with the ratio. He signs and then transferred the report back to me. Then I issued the money out to the designated areas that your documentation specify.

And you have to give a report monthly and also quarterly alongside myself and the financial secretary. I am only in charge of the physical money and cheques and I made sure it is transferred to the church account. So I handle the collation of the physical money and transfer it to the bank with the help of other account officers. I only issue money out once it’s signed by the FS.

After the financial secretary has put his signatory. He in turn will submit the signed report back to you, then you go about your own business like I explained earlier” He explained.

“Sir, I think I’ll need a training or something”

“You don’t need a training. There’s a format already on your table. Just fill it to detail. Then that of the Pastor is simple since you are working together, he’ll be the one to instruct you on what to do.

“Aww….The job is somehow! ” She muttered.

“Don’t be despodent. It’s not that hard, don’t be scared at all. Aside the every now and then meeting you’ll be having with the Pastor, there’s no much work. And remember weekly services only holds twice except for when we have maybe revival or other special programs during the week. Then Sunday, just come upstairs to do your documentation before you go home then you’ll submit to the Pastor on Monday morning. That’s all” He said encouraging her.

“This man did not know that my major problem is meeting with that Pastor on a regular basis” she said in her mind.

“You resume by 10am on days you are not meeting with the Pastor. You also close by 4pm on days when there’s no weekly service but on days when there’s weekly service, you’ll close by 8pm. Then also the morning after the weekly service you’ll resume by 8am. Saturday and Sunday is free but you have to wait behind after Sunday service for your documentation once we are through collating the proceeds from the service” He informed.

“What if there’s a program on Saturday like weddings. Who will handle the documentation and even your own duty and the others?” She enquired.

“Good question. We have some church workers who only work on Saturdays, they’ll be the one to handle it. But on Sunday after the service, they’ll submit the report for Saturday to you. Then you’ll document and submit it together with the Sunday documentation to the Pastor”

“Ok. Sir. So…. the Pastor is not in any way in charge of the church funds!”

“Not at all. He only give instructions on the allocations. Infact since you are part of us you should know this he is not in the church pay roll”

“Really! You mean he doesn’t collect salary?”

“He doesn’t, I don’t know how well you know him but he comes from a wealthy family, so he didn’t see reasons to collect salary from the church. He partly runs his family business” He said radiantly.

“I see… Thank you so much for the orientation sir”
“You are welcome and you are also welcome into our midst, we are one big happy family” He said radiantly.

“Thank you sir. I promise to do my best”

She left the office and went to meet with the receptionist who showed her to her office. It wasn’t what she expected at all. The office is not too spacious but it was well furnished. With flat screen 26” TV, decoder, water dispenser, a fridge, a computer system and a well functioning AC.

And for the very first time since she got the job offer, she smiled. Then the smile faded when she remembered Pastor David and her job description that will make her meet with him often.

CHAPTER 12
Ademide resumed work the next day. Luckily for her there was no service that day, she enjoyed the comfort of her office. She only took her time to read up on the details of her job.

She read some files on the system in her office. She was given the system password that morning. She was also given the pass code of the church WiFi. So she has access to free internet. She loved the job, to her the work load is something she can easily handle except for the but, Pastor David.

Her mum called her and ask if she had gone to Pastor David’s office to thank him for his help because she already told her that morning before she left the house to do so.

Ademide told her that she hasn’t gone to see him. Her mum told her to do so before she leaves the office, she only told her mum she’ll go both in her mind she knew she’s going nowhere. By 4pm she gladly left her office and went home. She wish every other day will be like her first day.

Everyone came back from work and met her in the house. She had cooked and done one or two house chores before everyone returned. Her parents and sister asked how her day went. She told them how her day went. Her mum asked if she saw Pastor David but she cunningly avoided the question.

The next day was a Wednesday and of course there’s a mid week service on that particular day, so she was busy during the day going through all the previous documentation.

She realized she need to summarize all the church’s monthly expenditures and make a bar chart for it. They also have the documentation in words and also in figures, Microsoft Excel will help do justice to that.

By the time she was through with what she was doing. She decided to have her lunch. She brought lunch from home so she won’t have to go to the cafeteria and run into Pastor David.

One of the staff who came to greet and welcome her told her that she can make use of the office assistance whenever she doesn’t feel like going out for lunch. All she has to do is to give out her meal ticket to get whatever she wants at the cafeteria.

She was so happy to hear that there’s no need for her to leave her office during break. That’s sounds really good to her.
She checked the time it was 4pm but she couldn’t go home, service starts by 6pm.

So she just concentrated on the program she was watching on TV. She believed she won’t be seeing the Pastor that day except during the evening service and He can never see her from where he sits.

By 4:30pm her office telephone rang. She thought it was the chief accountant because he called her earlier. So she picked the call.
“See me in my office now”

She need not to ask who was speaking everybody recognizes that voice. It was Pastor David. She tried to remember if he has any business with him but she knew she doesn’t until the next morning. So she decided not to go, believing anything he wants to see her for is not official.

Thirty minutes later, the phone rang. She picked the call and it was the Financial secretary, who he just met that morning and the man looks strict, not just look he is strict.

“Are you sure you are ready for work, we’ve been waiting for you for the past thirty minutes, didn’t you get a call from Pastor David!” He said sternly.

“Jesus! I’m sorry sir, I’m on my way” She said and replaced the receiver”

“God! What have I done to myself. Pastor David did this on purpose to humiliate me in the presence of the staff” She lamented.

She quickly picked her tab and rushed out of her office she didn’t know what else to take since she hasn’t done any documentation yet. She hurriedly greeted Pastor David’s secretary, the door was closed so she asked Bunmi if she can go in and she said she can. She knocked and entered into the office.
