U have spoken well my dear !! ...especially with the part in bold.
This 2 NUGGET summarizes it all;
"When the herds are 'running in or out of a place' within the market, watching ur back to COMPREHEND the reason for the run is twice as important as 'running with them', and just as important as sticking to a workable Investing STRATEGY.
...unless of course the target company was 'in the forefront of that run'."
~Sinclair

"The stock market is like an unending race with plenty of obstacles and more 'virtual than real spectators' running with u.
...but along the way, it ALWAYS rewards those who 'can see through the other side of those obstacles' and run it WITHOUT tiring out."
~Sinclair

That said, some people might sometimes have 'other reasons for running.' ...with some, unavoidable, while some others could be justifiable.
The most important thing is to ensure(like u infered from ur story) that 'one does NOT get injured(incure losses) while embarking on such run.'
The KEY?
"To find out if u can SUCCEED more in the stock market,1st find out if u have the RIGHT TOOLS that can navigate through the worst of times and which can stand the test of time.
...otherwise, go and 'buy' it."
~Sinclair

It is well !!

Well said!

Unconfirmed report reaching me from some strong source has it that following from the court sanction of the ACCESS-DIAMOND BANK merger today, the shareholders of DIAMOND who hitherto are QUALIFIED for the 7 for 2 equivalent share allotment in the enlarged entity will also be eligible for the 25k FY 2018 dividend declaration by ACCESS bank.

Again, this lends credence to my several ealier assertions and analysis that the then shareholders of DIAMOND are the biggest winners of this merger.
On the flip side, this will only aid with pushing further up the price of ACCESS as the DIAMOND shareholders who qualify now have something to make them 'wait/hold a bit longer' without selling off their stake in the new enlarged bank(ACCESS) post merger.
...ACCESS closed on massive bid @ N6.50 today.
Like I always said then, Mr DIAMOND wins pre merger, while Mr ACCESS 'resurrects'(to win) post merger.
There is a mutual exclusivity with the terms of the merger.

It is well !!

My brother I understand your point because the stock market is very volatile and capital preservation is key but know of people who sold at a loss due to fear of the unknown and I think that it is good to learn from ones experience sometimes. The stock market will definitely reverse at some point in time. I have leant that sometimes, it is more beneficial to stay longer in the market unless here is a genuine reason to sell.

I don't think we can compare the 2007/2008 era of manual trade through stockbrokers and now, the new technology built era in stock trading where you can trade yourself without any stock broker delaying you unnecessarily when you want to sell.

I still have the transcorp shares I bought in 2007@#7.5 and first bank@#33 due to unnecessary delays from them to sell when I mandated them to and that cannot happen now because I can sell myself but I still think that one should apply caution before selling even to d extent of doing so at a loss just because everybody is running.

Yours is well understood.

The Bureau of Public Enterprises has received financial and technical bids from five firms who are interested in purchasing the 51 percent stakes in Afam Power Plc and Yola Electricity Distribution Company.

According to the Head of Public Communications at the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Amina Othman, the bids were received from the prospective core-investors last week Friday, March 15, 2019, which was also the deadline for submission of bids.

One of the bidders pulled out: However, one of the bidding companies, Sandstream Nigeria, who offered to buy a stake in Yola Electricity Distribution Company, withdrew its bid after the company the company failed to include a bank guarantee in its proposal.
Bua group

“A total of five bids were received by the BPE on Friday, March 15, 2019 – being the deadline for the submission of technical and financial proposals for the acquisition of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company and Afam Electricity Generation Company (Afam Power Plc & Afam Three Fast Power Limited) by prospective core-investors.

“Two firms – Quest Electricity Nigeria Limited and Sandstream Nigeria – submitted proposals to acquire the Yola Disco while DiamondStripes Consortium, Unicorn Power Generation Consortium and Transcorp Power, sought to acquire the Afam Genco.

“Sandstream submission was, however, found to be non-responsive as it failed to include a bank guarantee in line with the requirements in the Requests for Proposal.

“Accordingly, the representative of the firm took the bid back.”

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by onegentleguy: 4:54pm On Mar 20, 2019

Correct but for a much easier grasp, let's simplify it a bit.

A quick math;
Merger valuation of DIAMOND = N3.13
Cash consideration = N1
Therefore Effective allotment price of DIAMOND = N2.13
Current Price of DIAMOND =N1.90
Effective allotment price of ACCESS = V
Price of ACCESS equivalent to the current price of DIAMOND = Y
We need to find V and Y. ...where the value of Y should be our target price for ACCESS in relation to the trending price of DIAMOND.

According to the scheme of merger, 7 equity holding in DIAMOND shall be equivalent to 2 in ACCESS.
...therefore a 3.5(7/2) equity stake in DIAMOND shall equal an equity stake(1 unit) of ACCESS.
The arithmetic view of this is that an approx N7.45 (3.5 X N2.13) value in DIAMOND equates with 1 unit of ACCESS.
...this is the effective allotment price of ACCESS, hence V= N7.45.

To find Y(what price a unit of ACCESS should sell relative to that of DIAMOND) at any point in time, simply use the formula, [3.50 X (current market price of DIAMOND - 1)]
From the formula, u do not need a soothsayer to tell u that the prices of both coys are mutually inclusive and directly proportional to one another.
Sure u can decipher the rest.

Regards.

For those who may be looking to play the ACCESS route, take a cursory look at the quick review above. U can utilize the formulae and format to ur advantage.
...u may also wish to read through my previous analysis with respect to the merger.

Clearly Mr ACCESS is now well positioned for an upswing.
For short termers, TECHNICALS are suggestive of an upswing to near the effective price level of N7.50 and above.
For long termers, its a HOLD !!

Disclosure: Access was bought into our investment portfolio a fourth night ago.
Disclaimer: NOT to be infered as any sought of recommendation.

My advise: Pls kindly follow ur instinct.

Will the shareholders of Diamond Bank be compelled to sell their new Access Bank shares after the conversion of Diamond Bank shares to Access Bank shares via the ratio 2/7?

Thanks.

Never !! ...there has never been any such thing as a compulsion to part with ones holding.
Having qualified(as a DIAMOND bank shareholder/stakeholder), u are now part and passel of the new post merger enlarged entity. ...including but not limited to all benefits and right as shall be due to the former shareholders of ACCESS.
Simply put, u are now a 'full fleged' ACCESS BANK shareholder.

Given the discount of a more than fair enough margin of inherent risk(including a possible deterioration/downside in asset quality from the acquisition of diamond) and at the back of an assumed zero growth in the near term, I have a FV estimate of N11.90.
...and quite frankly, this is me been cautiously optimistic with estimated figures in ACCESS' 2018 FY print.

But then again, the market will have to determine and champion things from here.

NOTE: Just a guide, NOT A RECOMMENDATION.
