you guys are forgetting someone.....TYRONNE EBUEHI you guys should know if he is fit he'll make AFCON squad

Tyronne Ebuehi won't make Afcon squad, if he recovers now there won't be enough time for him to regain match fitness for Afcon

that is the issue if. Added to that he has been out of action for too long so he'll be lacking match fitness it's better not to rush him let's leave him to recover in peace and come back stronger for the new season

Sentiments written over this. Has Simon even had a better season compared to Samu? Add to that, Onyekuru and maybe even Kalu? Musa is just a more established SE player. Let’s talk performance, if we go by club form this season, Samu is an exceptional young talent and can gate crash this squad easily if given more minutes in the SE

andrew444:

The question you should be asking is will kalu ,onyekuru,Simon ,musa ,will any of them be dropped ?

You don't need to be asking if he will make the afcon or not ,now drop one of those players I mentioned

Oga Samu has proved himself against the best clubs in Spain. Current, most recent, top class performance in just his first pro season. If you are saying Rohr will not drop the other players for Chuks, that’s a whole different argument. Make it clear.

Rohr rates players based on their performance in the SE

As far as Samu has not done those things in the SE, Rohr will not rate him better than the players he has currently

I watched Samu against Real Madrid. Na today we start to follow the guy?

My argument remains Samu is not the kind of player to warm the bench. He will put a good challenge against any player who start ahead of him in the SE, unlike some of these names u guys are reeling out so called untouchables — some of which have been comfortable bench warmers in SE over a while now. Onyekuru and Samu are equal on market value according to transfermarkt. Give them another year and u know what will happen.

You guys are making it seem Samu has nothing on those players. That’s misleading. I’m not attempting to rubbish Onyekuru etc.

If we look closely at both players. Looking at style of play etc, Onyekuru isn’t better than Samu in my opinion.

Lols

Onyekuru is not better than samu just because samu scored against barca and did well, i understand.

Maybe in the future if onyekuru plays in spain or england then maybe he scores against barca or mancity he will be better than samu

If Nigeria is trailing in an AFCON game, who will you bring on as an impact sub?

Now, who to bring in depends on a lot of factors. But one major one is "why are we not getting the goals"?. And this singular factor too can be due to several reasons. It could be that the main striker is not effective enough even despite the players behind him putting him up in good scoaring positions. A case like this a like for like switch of strikers could make the change.
Secondly, if the Midfielders are not doing enough to link up play with the attack. Here a more creative or more advanced Midfielder could be sub-in for a DM to support the AM or a direct switch between AMs.
Thirdly, could be that the wingers are not effective enough. Here subing in a new winger(backed up with all the introductions) can change the game.
Fourthly, the opposing defense could also have neutralised the already existing striker if it is a 4-5-1 and a second striker needs to be subbed in for one of the 5 Midfielders.

And so on so forth, depending also on other dynamics of the game including the balance of play.

So chief anybody can be that "impact sub"

I'm glad we didn't convince lookman to switch because right now we have about five wingers ahead of him that guy for chop bench tire

What an interesting Discourse, and honestly Everyone is right whether for or against Chuks going to AFCON. However, it's necessary to put some variables into consideration, also more importantly to be realistic with the approach.

Let's start from SE Manager; Rohr (Mr. Conservative) would never drop any of these Wingers for the AFCON except there is need to do so (Injury, not even loss of Form); Musa, Moses, Kalu and Oyenkuru. The first 3 are guaranteed to be in the Squad bar Injury while Onyekuru has proven himself ready for the most Senior Team in the Land.

Secondly; what's the Essence of rushing the Lad to the Super Eagles only to be warming the Bench or at times as a normal Spectator simply by not making the Match Day List? England won the last Edition of the U20 because their best Legs were paraded.

Sancho is doing wonders with Dortmund, and better than Chuks at the Moment. Sancho, Lukman, Solanke and Co shone at the last Edition, and we should not forget these Lads were not Academic Footballer at the time - stand to be corrected.

Let's Chuks hones his Skills, proves himself to the World at the U20. To me it's great Opportunity for him to get himself a bigger Club - if he plays and performs exceptionally at the U20 Tournament.

Mikel was snapped up by United because of his exceptional performance at the Tournament, only to be hijacked by Chelsea and the rest is History.

If we need a Joker, a super sub, I will rather go with Oyenkuru than Chuks. The former is experienced to some extent, also skillful and decisive. Chuks is very talented, but he needs to be carefully nurtured - one step at a time.

No assumptions. Assess the situation based on what you have on ground.

Based on what is on ground Chukwueze has shown better form in club football this season than Simon and Kalu and until he is allowed to compete with them for an AFCON shirt we will be doing ourselves a disservice sending him to the U-20s.

Even though its highly unlikely, I still think he should still prove himself at the u-20 level. He should have no problem doing that.

However, I'm usually wary of pre-tournament form. A certain Simy comes to mind

Why is it mandatory to prove yourself at u-20 level when you have been playing against big boys all season and can challenge the players in the current senior team for a shirt.

I think most people overestimate the capabilities of our team to the point we don't seem to believe the current set up can be improved.
