The solution is simple. Work a few years in the unskilled job (we all did it), save as much as you can, and then go back to school and study a course that gets you into a professional occupation e.g medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, engineering. I would advise a new immigrant to look for the top 10 occupations in whatever country you are, and go back to school to get the qualifications needed for those roles.

Racism and discrimination has been existing for years and will continue to exist, it shouldn't be an excuse for an immigrant not to aspire to be the best. I'm yet to see a company hire an unskilled white man over a black doctor, or black pharmacist or black nurse. The racism that an unskilled black man experiences is quite different from that of a highly skilled middle class black man. The highly skilled black man will go home and wipe his tears with his crisp $£ at the end of every month.
very useful advice.. Thank you

My intension wasn't to necessarily deter anyone from emigrating to Ireland, just wanted to give people a little insight about life in Ireland for an African immigrant.
The reality!!

we already know all these na. You just sounded so negative. I'm leaving africa, nit because of greener pastures. I don't like the lifestyle of Nigerians and their fellow africans. The African culture is so unacceptable and unappealing to me. Since i started taking cognisance of life. Maybe its how i was built. Reasons for leaving is simply to have a different life and start living. Too bad they will hate me over therr because i am black. So should i aay that I'm trapped. Its even too late to leave. I'm already in my early 30s...

. Claremont, I doubt you understand the kind of racism that goes on in the professional sphere in Europe. We had this argument with a colleague also. I applied for internship positions with my CV (same format, just different names, emails and phone numbers). I received 29 rejections in a space of 4 days while all 30 scheduled an interview with the one with the German name.

I am in Germany and it is pretty much the same. Thousands of Africans here even with German Masters & PhDs working low level cleaning and physical logistics jobs. I mean, seeing those who have been settled here for more than 20-30 years looking so haggardly is enough to discourage my continued residence in Europe.

I'm just waiting for the 2019 elections to be over and to receive my degree. Heaven knows I won't be here come June 2019.

Are u back in the country now or has things changed....
But what I know of Germany is guys in IT profession are making it big....
I'm aware of guys who were employed directly from naija....

I think you are right in some part of information highlighted but can I just say as a Nigerian who is also an Irish Citizen. We lack the habit of integrating into European Culture. We want to grab the opportunities there without establishing a sound bond or relationship and at every opportunity we get, we brag and want to outshine everyone. We are not sensitive or conscious of how we act, dress or carry ourselves when initiating for opportunities. I do not have a degree but work with multinational computer technology company in Dublin and established bond with Irish Indegenes to the point we are like families. I also volunteer my spare time in the community every week to support the growth and bond in the local community. I support in terms of fund raising and partake in celebrating their culture. Most Nigerians here separate themselves and the Irish indegens do not know you well enough to entrust what they have been building from generation to generation in your hands to ruin. Most Nigerians are not humble people when tested with fame or fortune.

God bless you my broda. You are not a kid at all and I know that based on our previous conversation. As per Ireland, I have decided to hands up on that except general inquiry on those two threads.. It's good to always help the needy. Aside that, I believe life is not just to be successful and wealthy. But to impact into the lives of others whether big or small. In the life of a human being, there is a period of ignorance including myself and that's the reality. I'm against rude, obnoxious and arrogant individuals especially on this nairaland who got no respect for other people's opinion, if you don't agree with their views the insults start raining. Isn't our responsibility as an individual to be responsible online?

For instance now, whether the content of this thread is fact, opinion or whatever, we can disagree to agree politely with happiness not insult, but does it warrant insult at all? No! That's the state of mind of some people on nairaland and that's why I don't go beyond my boundary again O! grin Do have a good night bro!
I am desperately in need of your assistance sir... Kindly reply your mail sir

Oga Irish citizen, integration is a two-way street
You have to be "welcomed" to integrate
Denying the massive impact of racism towards other races in Ireland is simply cooning or living in a bubble
Literally every "Black-Irish" I ever met said them or their family members experienced a lot of racism and bigotry living or growing up in Ireland.

Nigerian culture and Irish culture are obviously different, and there are good and bad in every culture.
How the hell do you want us to dress ??
Hope you don't have inferiority complex
When Europeans come to Nigeria to take massive government contracts do the change the way the dress, talk or carry themselves ?
Do the even integrate ? Don't the surround themselves with Police ?

When the colonizers came to Africa did the celebrate our culture lmao.

Mate go sort out your inferiority complex, licking the b**hole of western people for acceptance, at the end of the day, you're still a n%%ga to them.

That's how Canada exposed me to many opportunities in Nigeria. I left nigeria in 2014 with the mentality of living big abroad as if everything is easy over there which i ended up working my ass off with pay cheque which is not even enough to live good.
Fast forward to 2016 I sat myself down and think deeply cos I got a lot of dependant which canada situation can't help or else I will end up ignoring my dependants by not not letting them to know my contacts again.
Here we go April 2016 I decided to leave Canada to Nigeria cos I have a lot of business idea, thou right from the beginning business is in my blood.
When I decided to leave i inform my family about it my brothers, sisters, mom and my friends were all scared and wonder how can I decided such a silly thing to come back to nija. Sometimes self decision is the best. I kept mute I didn't listen until I carried out my plan, booked a one way ticket to nija, landed and the hustle started. Everybody are looking at me like let's see what will end u in Nigeria.

I dont know Why we Nigerians lose hope on our country as if these western world are paradise?

I went back to my business I was doing before I left for canada which is agriculture. I put some money I managed to save on it. Upgrade myself by advertising my products online, travelling around, visiting big big farms for sales cos I'm into poultry and I also sell foreign feed additives such as feed proteins and amino-acids.
These business I have been doing before I left for canada but the mentality of travelling out for greener pasture has eat deep in me, then I didn't work too smart cos I believe abroad is the only option to success.

To cut the long story short
I'm now a owner of a company.
We sale imported feed additives in case a farmer might be interested in buying.

Till today Canada door is still opened for me.
I was there 2 times this year, planning to go again next March thou for visiting online.

All my write up is all true cos I know some might want to quote me wrong. I swear
Some might wonder how come all these happen in 2yrs yes it's God's grace and focus.

Funny enough, a lot of people didn't believe all these till today, some believe I'm into Yahoo thing and even sarz always stop me while driving but when they see evidence they free me cos I'm just 29yrs still very young for face. I swear with my life I have never try that Yahoo Yahoo thing or ritual in my life. God is my witness.

@mile
Nigeria is the best if you have a very good business idea and fund to finance it.

I will never advice who's going for greener pasture abroad not to do it cos not everybody got business idea and everybody can't be a boss.
Some will live all their life on pay cheque while some is destined to be d boss. That's life.

I just joined nairaland cos if catch my attention especially this thread. One love

I sent a pm
